What is it that attracts so many people to Jita, it cant just be player trade? I searched the belts, not a single Arkanor roid in sight, cant be that. I searched the trade market and couldn't find any exotic dancers or Scantily clad exotic dancers so what else could it possibly be?
Almost 400 in there atm and like 40 outside the Navy Plant 4 station just floating there with thier feet up sunbathing.
Possible solutions: 1. Remove the Academy school from there to another system 2. Move about half of the stations to other low traffic systems in forge 3. Remove alot of the gates, especially the one to Kisogo 4. Remove all but a few agents from there. 5. Introduce Scantily clad exotic dancers to all surrounding systems EXCEPT Jita.
Actually I think gate removal might be the best thing because look at Yulai, lots of gates were removed and its now pretty much an average system now.

Cap station number in systems at 10, disperse any excess to underpopulated systems. Should sort out Jita and Oursulaert instantly. Problem there is, too many people are too lazy to move their gear.

It's not about not wanting to move thier gear. People like hubs. It makes selling, buying, trading, and socializing easier.

I wouldn't PvP in it but I shop there loads everything yopu can want and at the best prices in EVE :)

moving the ice belts should get about 100 'miners' out of local to start with. isnt there like 3 ice belts there? that is just a bad bad idea to have them in a hub...

but seriously. I think there are some good ideas. I think some of the best ideas I saw was a rework of the agent system. Where you work for a corp, not an agent. And you pull up coms saying "reporting" and the corp says hello, dispatcher here. We've got bob in oursulaert who needs some hauling asap. Ken in blah system is under attack in emergency and fred in your system forgot his mommie's birthday present.
You would then click on that agent and without docking or traveling (ie these agents are in x range) you would speak to them and do mission. Possibly never going to their station. The higher the quality agent the further it's range for mission broadcast?
it's in ideas forum somewhere. Was really fantastic. Oveur even seemed to participate alot in that thread
/me goes to look for it.

You cannot break the hubs up as long as the market system actively pubishes diversifying into new locations. Period.
If you remove one hub, another will jjust spring up.

Right, and it's a trade hub for a reason, lonetrek and the citadel are one jump, domain and sing liason aren't too far away, too. So, for everyone who wants to go shopping, compare prices or sell goods, it's the place to go.
People like one-stop-shopping, they don't want to fly around for hours to fit their ships, find the modules they need and for producers it's much easier to have a few core places to offer their goods, close to their production facilities. As stated before, there is demand for a place like Jita, so nerfing the system wouldn't spread out people, they'd all go to one place again.

Definitely a way to get people to stop using a single agent without wasting all of their efforts, not that I have ever been much of an agent runner anyway...

Edited by: Wrayeth on 26/01/2006 22:26:18 Here's a thought: have the controlling empire set trade restrictions on what items can and can't be sold in a given system. This would be hard-coded into the market structure for that system. By doing this, you would be able to decentralize things a bit by having several different hubs in a given region, each selling different items. As I envision it, the hubs would be on different nodes, thus spreading out the server load and hopefully decreasing lag.
EDIT: I would also say that low sec and 0.0 system should have no restrictions, as players can then police the system load themselves via piracy or territory control. -Wrayeth

Then people will move out allright. Out the GAME.
You cannot use negative sticks, social or technological, to PUNISH sellers. Because that is exactly what you propose. Market sell order limits make it impossible to maintain a steady income AND expand into new areas. Period.

I looked back to the 250th page back on eve ideas forums and couldn't find that idea. It was really. good. darn.
Maya is right you can't hard code something like that.
And it's also right that if you nerf JITA not the cause it'll remake. Hell Yulai anyone remember Yulai?
I think multiple fronts have to attack the issue.
1. Agents accessed only in station. Missions return to station. The hub system mentality of missions. Just think about it. Picture the routes your character takes as a mission runner. IT's evident there.
2. Sales clumping. That is impossible to change. Supply moves to feed demand. You have to resolve intense single location demand. What about the option for NPC Courriers that move courrier missions. No collateral missions that allow people to buy remotely in region or on escrow then ship the goods in. Player piracy upon those would make it interesting too.
3. Mining. No ice belts in hub systems. 1.0 and 0.9
4. Higher quality agents go in lower security space. Which means to find level 4's you may need to go into .4 Which means that if a .4 system becomes a hub, guess what happens? Exactly. Don't want to reward of level 4's don't go to front lines and take the risk. Do low quality level 3's scattered around in .6-.5 systems or a level 2 in .8 or a level 1 in 1.0
5. I think spawns should be interesting. Have a chance of a scout spawn who tries to run away. If he does he comes back with a spawn. Or if you kill rats in a belt next time they respawn harder, reseting during down time. Warp scrambled rats not allowed but maybe some heavy guns to shake up stagnate mining ops or macro ops.
any other ideas?

Please read my post again. I never said there'd be a limit on the number of sell orders, only that, by limiting the types of items can be sold in a given system, you can change it from one single hub to several hubs right next door to each other. By doing this, it would split the load between several nodes (each of the hub systems that now collectively comprise the old hub would be on a separate node) - something that's not possible with the single-system hubs that currently exist, since the devs have stated that you can't split one system between several nodes. -Wrayeth

There IS CURRENTLY a limit on sell orders.
And you'd need to limit every 0.5+ system, because if you just do it to SOME, then people will move the hub just outside that area.

Nothing wrong with that. Group nearby systems together to make a number of possible collective hub locations. When the players decide what systems they'll be using as a collective hub, the server load can be balanced so that that each of those systems is on a different node. -Wrayeth

limited orders would be bad - someone could buy up all of a certain item - lets call them, for example, Cap Recharger IIs, and put them all back on as seperate orders at a higher price. This would actually block anyone else from posting an order, fixing the price manually, and eliminating competition

Yulai was the Hub.
Space route were modified to change that.
Now there are new hubs.
change again and you will only move the problem, not solve it.
There is no solution, people will always gather in just a few places to do business

You're missing the point. You'll just stop commerce dead because you've killed any possible profit. People who have to travel 6 systems ANYWAY to get a basic ship setup will be willing to look for bargain basement prices - the NPC'ers.

Lets see, 20.000 people play on peak hours, it drops down to say 15.000 during normal hours and possibly all the way to to 8.000 during slow hours.
What is so odd that a trading hub would draw 400 of them to a specific system?
If you then add on wars and thus people going there to try to find war targets, newbies starting out, agent runners, people who want to mine in safe space...
In reality Im suprised there arent more than 400 there.
Now most of the sugestions you give to drop the load on Jita will in reality work but they wont solve the problem, just move the trade hub and thus the system with 400+ players in it.
I do however agree that the agents there should move out and that it may be a good idea not to have it a newbiesystem but if you alter too much the hub will simply move and the problem start all over again in another spot.
Yulai is an excellent example of this, under the superhighway system yulai was THE trade hub, it was dencelly overpopulated and most player trading took place there, then the gate routes were redesigned and *poof* almost over downtime the place became deserted.
What used to be a vibrant hub with litterally billions of isk being traded for every day it bacame just another backwater system with.
As I write Yulai has 45 people in space and 18 docked in stations wich can be compared to the 481 pilots in space and 176 docked in Oursulaert or the 446 inspace and 148 docked in Jita.
Moving the problem does nothing to solve it.

one solution would be to get Jita Bypass gates. Muvolailen, New Caldari, and Kisogo, are just some of the systems linked to jita. the creation of gates from each system to the other, while avoidinf jita itself would probably cut down a good bit of the lag for players passing through the system at least.

Very true. Eve is just reflecting real life.
Humans create hubs. Look at New York and London!
Nerfing Jita won't solve anything. They nerfed Yulai and other hubs came into being.
They nerfed the drones and that didn't fix the lag either. LAG!Ö |
