You know, after reading all the ideas here, I think that jita is gonna stay, but I find that there is one great idea here. Im loving the idea of security statis based agents. It will probly **** off a bunch of carebears though . ____________________ Comparing EVE tp WOW is like comparing apples to butter. That said, I like apples. |

One of the major reasons for staying there must be mining. Mining isn't good unless if someone is buying the ore and minerals. And people like to buy them close to where they manufacture (use the minerals!). Move the manufacturing far away and the miners will move. That then again means that as they have to go to lower sec, they need weapons and other stuff from the market as well...
I'd use moving the manufacturing FAR away from those hubs (5-10 jumps at least) as a lever. It doesn't necessary work and it will not work fast. It's a slow process, but in time it would move some.

Another great way would be Smart bomb suiciding 5.5km from the station mouths in insured BS. Well worth the sec and isk loss.

1) Remove all ore/ice belts from Jita. 2) Remove all agents from Jita. 3) Remove any starter corps from Jita. 4) Create multiple alternate routes around it. 5) Have no missions take place in Jita (i.e. Sobaseki agent will never send you to, or through Jita).
I might even go so far as to suggest moving all stations from Jita and replacing it with a single Caldari-State Mega-Station - yes, makes camping war targets easier...but maybe make it a demilitarised zone, i.e. no fighting, whatsoever...
Make it a hub...a dedicated one...just remove all the other stuff that makes people go there...

Moving the manufacturers would not solve the problem but only move it. As you say: miners work for manufacturers, so this is probably true: If you move the factories, you move the miners. But manufacturers work to sell some stuff, and they don't like to travel much, so they start selling where they manufacture. This means the buyers move also to that particular system. Thus creating another hub... It's probably more effective (and easier to achieve i suppose) to move the agents to another system.

Ideas about artificially restricting trade for certain items to certain systems might work to slow down trade. If that's the objective, run with it. As for resolving lag, it's a poor solution. People will still setup trade hubs whereever it makes sense and will use the escrow system to bypass the artificial item limits. Unless you get CCP to make a system sweeter for trade than Jita, you won't see much drop in lag in Jita. And the sweeter system will be the subject of debates thereafter. Just like.. Yulai was, and Jita is now.

I wasn't thinking about restricting markets. It's not wise. Just move the manufacturing slots far away.

The best way to stop hubs lagging is for CCP to work out how to use multiple CPUs for a single system. It seems that stackless python won't let them do it currently which is a teensy little shame, since hubs are not only inevitable but highly desireable in EVE gameplay. Humans aggregate into groups, and flock into cities. Some (a few) prefer to live in the hinterland.
Imo CCP are far more likely to get EVE to fit humans than they are to get humans fitting EVE. -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net

The brilliance of giving caldari the most balanced attributes is what has caused jita to be as busy as it is.
Rebalance every races starting attributes, and you'll see some changes in new players. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever |

create a event where jita's star blows up on X date and everything in the system is incinerated people are allowed to watch however they will be blown up unless equiped with the right shielding devices...

Originally by: Sales Merchant What is it that attracts so many people to Jita, it cant just be player trade? I searched the belts, not a single Arkanor roid in sight, cant be that. I searched the trade market and couldn't find any exotic dancers or Scantily clad exotic dancers so what else could it possibly be?
Almost 400 in there atm and like 40 outside the Navy Plant 4 station just floating there with thier feet up sunbathing.
Possible solutions: 1. Remove the Academy school from there to another system 2. Move about half of the stations to other low traffic systems in forge 3. Remove alot of the gates, especially the one to Kisogo 4. Remove all but a few agents from there. 5. Introduce Scantily clad exotic dancers to all surrounding systems EXCEPT Jita.
Actually I think gate removal might be the best thing because look at Yulai, lots of gates were removed and its now pretty much an average system now.
Commments?
The best way to limit hubs from forming like jita is to set a pop-cap based on the amount of n00b corp members in a system, as more enter the sec rating drops until at around 300-350 the system hits 0.0 sec rating. This is the only way you could ever really solve the problem without creating another hub. People love to flock together and they will unless you institute a policy that universally affects all.
Adding more frustration, wait of grind won't do it, hell that'd almost be a good thing for those who frequent hubs as they often subsist themselves on that sort of thing. However adding the possibility of loss might make them think twice.
Of course optionally you'd want to add a new option to the autopilot "avoid systems nearing a low-sec population cap" so you wouldn't fly through a system likely to soon go to .4 or lower.

Then you just get people griefing n00bs.
The only soloution is to allow market expansion. Remove the order limits.

Introduce VAT based on the number of locals in the system.
All buyers and sellers get taxed at a variable percentage between 0% to 20% based on the number of locals in market. Market displays the market price but the actual price is Market + VAT.
May not be the best idea but it is an idea.

I like what I left in. It would make Jita a literal hub for the region. Or you could dedicate a couple nodes to run the hubs alone, that would also work. Funny quotes:

Of course, that's the point. To instill the idea not to clump together by teaching people some hard lessons about crowding systems. Once it hits .4 gankers will start showing up and clear out the system of people, causing the sec rating to quickly rise back up. The point is to teach people not to gather together but at the same time of course prevent something like an alliance from sending a ton of people into a 1.0 system to turn it 0.0 for their own pleasure.
The way I figure it, if player-corp players are crowding a system, if it really needs cleaning, war decs can take care of that, so logically this should only apply to n00b corp members.

Solving Jita.. Sure...just turn off local..fly to the station you want to drop stuff of at, avoid the mass of shuttles parked outside and the endless stream of Retrievers docking and undocking, sell your goods, buy what you want, then bugger off back to your nice quiet system far far away in a galaxy a long time ago....or somit like thatwith no lag (or very little...and none asking where that FREAKIN ROGUE DRONE is!! :)
Im normally nice..but i've just got done by Concord for Drunk Driving...:(

It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required. |

"The point is to teach people not to gather together"
Why do you want to teach them that?
400 people in single system, or 400 people all over dozen of systems located on the single node... have the same impact on performance of that node. In fact, the later is probably worse because you have these 400 people jump around 10 systems to do the shopping, thus stressing the server some extra....
Jita is currently shopping mall of EVE. (and Sobaseki is smaller one just one jump across, since it's in Lonetrek already) And it's fine. All i'd really want is autopilot not insist on going through there when not needed. Add option like "avoid congested zones" to it, maybe. Should clear a bit of traffic issues while the traders can do their business as they like.

It's player trade. Not agents. Not office space/factilities. Not mining. Not ice fields. Not macro users. Not ISK farmers. Not NPC/newbie schools. Just trade. Yulai was similar. Changed the gate routes around Yulai and and guess what? Jita and Oursalaert picked up the slack. Mostly Jita (but not by much), probably on account of about 50% of characters being Caldari. Artificially stifle trade in Jita - just like they did with Yulai - and some other system will pick up the slack, I'd assume. I'd say leave it in Jita, and don't screw up the surrounding systems.
Maybe add some hyperspsce bypasses around Jita to facilitate through-travel. Bring in the Vogon Constructor Fleet.

Here is a couple of ideas...though not necessarily good ones
1.) Make the transaction tax be more dynamic. ie) if there are loads and loads of people selling goods in one station then, said station would charge a higher tax.
2.) Revamp the agent system (yet again) by allowing you to access your agent from space anywhere in Eve. Have some missions that require you to go back to that particular agent to drop off something while, other times, you can drop an item off at your nearest corporate station. Also, remove all level 3 and 4 agents from super high security space. Make them .7 or lower.
