Skill is what should decide how far you end up on the ladder. My corp was really too far away from the SA thing to get there in time with any force that could take SA if they decided to back stab. I wouldn't have been able to participate anyway, wrong time zone. Didn't bother me too much, oh well I thought there would be more things going on I could join in. BBBBZZZZZZTTTT wrong..... There has yet to be an event that I have been able to aprticipate in that would yield a Miner 2, the scavenger hunt thing was just too stupid to be really called and event (dumb dumb dumb). It has been a few weeks since this whole jovian bullcrap thing happened. No miner 2 bp's out for purchase yet tho. The corps that have them are squeezing them dry for all the money they can get. Can't blame them they are just doing what most people would do. I would like the chance to go to an event that has the ability to yield a miner 2, or a BP of it. I would pit my skill up against the skill of others to try to get one.
Till then you wont see me standing in line for a miner 2. 5 mil each, come on guys a little overkill there. SNIGG is now officially open for business. We are a merc corp looking for contracts. For more info click below http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=68313 |

Can't you read other posts before you make your own
They could have held the event in Venal, so you could have been inside the stations among the pirates . It doesn't matter. We would have been there.

Where on the box did it read that true success in this game was to come from GM intervention?
In fact where did it say this was an event driven game? If it had said that I wouldn't have bought it tbh.
I'm one who doesn't do well with the events. First off I don't like them usually as they involve lots of waiting around and for most participants they are a waste of resources.
Hell I never even heard of the easter egg hunt thing.
This is the same reason I don't play the lotto. I'd rather work for what I have and use my wits to improve.
So anyway I would like get something official if this is just the way it's gonna be or what. I can at least save some money by cancelling my sub.

There's a wealth of information about the eve background story.
Surely you didn't think that was all fluff, now did you?
You can play both ways. 'Normally' or storyline-driven.

The miner II issue has ****ed a lot of people off. I know several people that have left the game because of this issue.
As for myself I belong to a small corp. We don't have 20 battle ships able to partake in an event we are simply not rich enough.
The next time Polaris/CCP decide to release a BP of such value a lot more people will be ****ed off if only the more powerful (or favoured) corps can obtain it.
This game exists because we pay to play. If 40 people leave, not a big problem. Next time it could be 200, the time after that it could be 800.
So a warning to Polaris/CCP. The Mega corps may have the ISK but I pay the same amount every month as they do. You lose the trust of the ordinary player the game will die.
I hope you don't make a mess of the next BIG event.

My My the grapes are sour !
Hey its not the amount of isk or ships that drive the storyline..
just start roleplay a bit more, it is a MMORPG, not a miner, seeling and buying game, this is a story driven univers, but you can make your own events or just play normally, what ever suits your style. In the end all tech 2 items will become accessible to all, but it will take time.
If you dont think your strong enough to participate in events, then join an alliance, that way you will have friends when you need it, but beware join the right one
I have myself done a few events, that I staged for beginners, you can do the same, and when the time comes and you find yourself swept into things, maybe the storyline will be circling around you that day, untill then keep at it, this game has only seen 3 month's, so be patient. Sorry I agree with Acix on this one. When is the next event? Will it be in Fountain, or Venal?
Come on it's been what, two weeks maybe 3 now since the last event. Heck put it out in Curse where no one claims it. Something, anything.
Oh and one thing I don't like is that I could have gone to this event that happened in Stained roleplayed it, lost my ship, became a clone, and could only say that I participated in it. Why should it take 100 ppl to participate if only 5 get rewarded? This is almost as bad as UO with the Doom Boss Artifact drops.

What ****es me off about the whoel thing is that an item used purely for manufacturing was obtained through a pure combat event. It sends the totally wrong message.
Higher tech blueprints should be obtained through lots of research and dedication by a manufacturing corp. It would also mean that any manufacturing corp could obtain that BP if they put the effort and resources into R&D.
The other really annoying thing about this is that it created a monopoly. I don't mind that the first corp to get a BP will have a monopoly for a short while. However, any other corp should be able to recreate what the first corp did and get its own BP. Then you have competition and the market works. If the most lucrative area of the market is reserved for a few corps and noone else can get into it, then the market is not working.

Come Down. I've heared that there was no Miner II event...
Arathmon > Now for something that has just cropped up recently on the boards: TTi is claiming to have a 'Nibelung' Particle Bore Stream V. Is there any truth to this and could a GM make a statement on it soon? It is making quite a stir on the boards currently.
Miner II BP was given in exchange for this tool "accidentally" given to TTI member. I remind You, it's just rumour.
But can anyone tell me wtf Jovians are doing in Stain Region?

which patch? according to the patch news, it was supposed to be available on the market 2 patches ago..
Also, can someone please give us a timeline of Events? Both GM and Polaris types?
According to Polaris there's 6 events hosted by them a week, yet nobody I have talked to in-game has ever seen a single one..
Most of the people I've talked to in-game have never even heard of Polaris..

ummm double point of Order.. the aformentioned Miner 2 was given out BEFORE the nasty Jovian was potted. That little bit of skullduggery has left (as you may well have seen) most of the populace in the game with a decidedly sour taste. It was a poor decision that has yet to be addressed. Edited by: Cyrus Troy on 29/08/2003 17:18:10 The last thing I want to do is cry, but the truth is, some player, BY MISTAKE, gets a tech 5 mining laser, sells it to TTI. Devs say "holy sh@#" (as they should, if someone has a tech 5 item and reverse engineering comes out, they'll be able to have atleast a tech 4 blueprint), The Devs try to roll play the mistake and get back the item, BY MAKING THINGS WORSE. They give TTI the first miner 2 blueprint copy. They could've just refunded TTI's money, but instead they give them over a BILLION ISK (they were selling hundres of them at 5 mill a piece and it only cost them 40K to make). "Wow, we bought a tech 5 mining laser, and then sold it back to the Jovs for something that has made us over a billion bucks".
We can talk all day about the event in Stain, but TTI's bpc is BULLS%*# and unfair!

Whaa! Whaa! Some corporation can make more money than you. Guess what, someone has to be on top. =)
If this BP was in someone else's hand, you would be *****ing the same way just replace "Stain" with some other name and you would have all identical posts.
In the end all these posts come down to: I wish I had what they had but I don't so I'm going to threaten to "quit."
Cry it up, crybaby.
Quote: Higher tech blueprints should be obtained through lots of research and dedication by a manufacturing corp. It would also mean that any manufacturing corp could obtain that BP if they put the effort and resources into R&D.
This is the first reasonable idea I've read in this entire thread. I don't like the idea of good "research" coming out of combat.
This is the same mistake that drove me IMMEDIATELY away from Earth and Beyond: the real trade experience was made by killing for loot and selling it - hence making combat necessary for decent trade experience. REALLY bad idea.

Veruna - you just don't get it. It's not about "he has something I don't have and can make money and I want it" The problem is HOW he got it. Did he do something exceptional? Did he kill a ship for it? Did research start working and he got it that way? NO. It was a GM handout. There was no skill, no amount of playing prowess, no anything. It was simply a handout.
If you believe the rumors, which are probably true given the average Polaris' demonstrated lack of judgement, the BP was handed to TTI because of their prior mistake. Whether it's true or not really makes no difference. The point is, SOMEHOW not involving skill or fair play, the first few people obtained miner 2 bps. THAT is the problem. Go ahead, demean people with this point of view, call em crybabies, but that is the simple fact. And you will be looking "down" upon at least 75% of the players in the game, who hold that point of view.
I do agree with your statement about research though. Higher tech levels, when placed into game, SHOULD be researched to obtain them, and they definately should be in limited quantities. Maybe they'd be hard to research, require special materials, or just very very expensive. Whatever. Open market cheap bp for sale = everyone and their brother buys a BP = the market will suck. Absolutely I agree, the market should be somewhat limited on items. Look what the unlimited market did for ships. However, those people who obtain them should have had to WORK for it, NEVER should it just be handed out as some of the miner 2 bps have.
SA killed a Jove for theirs.....at least they did something to earn it. Can the 5 people who got theirs from the "scavenger hunt" in yulai (which crashed the system and caused numerous travel delays for the rest of us) say the same?
They really should remove the Polaris people, they don't have a clue what they're doing. Once they have that done, they should look at how they plan to release new techs and put some serious thought into it. It's already hard enough to sell items with the daily decreasing number of players.

Well well boys.
Its quite interesting that some of you are still wearing the pink glasses.
I know a lot of people which will NOT extend.
Lets face it:
1)The Player-based Market is dead due to the fact that tons of people can build items using mass- duplicated bp copies and are selling for laughable prices.
2)Convoi-Hunting: It was once an alternative way of making good isk out of it, now, most of the convois contain only trash
3)Trading NPC Goods: Im under the impression that the good deals are getting fewer and fewer. Correct me if Im wrong and post a good traderoute.
4) People which thought they could start a career in the game as the big "reverse-engeneering" guy now face a game where the tec2 items are given out to some in a lottery.
5) Wars: Who ist actually willing to risk his ship ? Nobody, because that means mine, mine, mine in case you loose your ship.
So, no really big corp wars at the moment.
This game started out really good, but a lot of mistakes were made from ccp and i personally see no way out. (Maybe a 3 Month rollback and bps which cannot be copied anymore) Flaming an fanbois

It would be nice to see a longer drawn out events where individuals become cast in a larger play. The goal should be to get the play to take on a life of its own and the GMÆs and Polaris withdraw. You could compare it to putting cut flowers in a vase (what is done now) and planting seeds to grow plants (what is needed).
Up until now, all of the events seem to be centered out the Polaris Members and GMÆs. It is like short interludes of Whac-a-GM or Whac-A-Polaris member. While these type of events a nice to have, they are extremely short lived and only enjoyable for a few. They also have a tendency to alienate those who cannot attend due to timing or other issues. Also, the rewards for such short lived events should be short themselves. For instance instead of giving out original blue prints, why not give out copies or just the regular equipment.
Also, events need to include everyone weather they choose to be a part of the event or not. In other words some events need to occur in areas without notification. I for the life of me cannot imagine why the Jovian intelligence network would not have prior notification of the announcement and gotten the heck out of dodge instead of playing dumb.
à Meanwhile on Driving Miss Jovian.. <SMACK> ôWhat the heck did you do that for Miss Jovian?ö ôI told you not to take this route, I got a bad feeling we are about to be jumped. See! My knees are actinÆ up again.ö ôEyes sorry Miss Jovian. IÆll put in a course correction right away.ö
Unfortunately, Miss JovianÆs knees were correct and she never did make it back to port on that day.

I dont think this is a crying topic. Its all the truth. The game is gedding boring and REALLY unfair and unstable.
Reason's the lag is gedding more nasty every day, battle or big mining operation is almost impossible! I got a top pc and inet connection and yet lag as hell, or other isseus.
Pirates can kill in 0.0 without losing any points. I got killed 3 days ago by someone who hade a tempest and a 2.6 sec rate. I didnt know he was a pirate until he jammed me and destroyed me.
Tub stealers/destroyers make the work of miners impossible.
Lack of ships is to. There not enough ships avaible i mean i see onley the same ships every system of every race.
Baby oids makes it IMPOSSIBLE to mine anymore. Hell in Torrinos ( my home base ) there now almost onley baby belts left and they just DONT grow!!
And events or stuff whell... redicules. Onley top players with top ships or corp are able to join he event the rest of the 6000 people are left emty handed.
CTD is gedding even more frustrating i CTD more then 10 times a day 10 TIMES! even 3 times in 7 min!
Now think CCP we pay 12 bucks a month for this?

Cylynex check these two quotes:
Quote: This guys are makeing more a day as we were doing a week- at no cost.
Quote: It's not about "he has something I don't have and can make money and I want it"
Don't quite add up, do they?
I understand that this item was obtained w/o effort, and perhaps other players didn't have a fair shake in the matter. But this one singular occurrence would hardly be cause for all this grief and mining and moaning without the added "he has it and I don't syndrome."
Give some evidence that this is not an isolated event. Something that says it's happened before or that CCP will allow it to continue to happen. Anything which warrants the level of *****ing going on about this topic.
Justify this:
Quote: 4) People which thought they could start a career in the game as the big "reverse-engeneering" guy now face a game where the tec2 items are given out to some in a lottery.
Hahaha! I mean seriously. Over ONE item.
Get over it! It was a screwup but it's not the "epidemic" you people are making it out to be. If you want to quit over one fubar then quit. EVE is gaining more players than its losing despite your hopes that all the Miner II Whiners are jumping ship.
