Anyone have any thoughts on this, my brother just showed me it, its already made $22,000,000 in kickstart money... apparently its gonna be Eve but real Sim, and u can walk around in space stations, in your ship, have friends jump on your gun turrets... etc
I just got back into Eve and of course someone has to make a new fricken MMO ... |

I'm not sure about it myself and i haven't donated any money. The lvl of detail they are showing just seems to be hand waving an taking away from what really matters. Game play. They can have an many moving parts and beds and doors and toilets as they want but if the ship flies like a GTA in space i'm gonna pass. |

Oh dear another game is coming out where you can fly spaceships, lets automatically assume they will be competing for playerbase and have the same game mechanics. This is like saying that we must compare Age of Empires II and Chivalry because there are people with swords and bows.
While Star Citizen may be an MMO in its strictest terms, the game is going to be instanced more than, dare I say, World of Warcraft.
Just do the smart thing like me and many others . . . play both

Hrm... I just realized I most likley would. I was going to say I hate twitch based combat, but I love War Thunder.
As long as Star Citizen has bombers that I'll probaly take a look.
2. My computer most likley won't handle it.
Also I prefer larger ship simulations. All this panzy fighters have no place when ships are over 5km long.

Yeah people have thoughts on this... like in all the other countless threads on this where people talk about star citizen. Just be glad CCP lets you post this. That's what makes CCP different. Most game companies would ban you for talking about competing games on their company's forums. I mean really people...

Maybe I'll give this whole kickstarter thing a try. I could start an internet spaceship gambling company. I'll tell investors that I will make money by selling GTC's and getting affiliate commissions. I'll kick back some game currency credits towards the purchases to make it a no-brainer to buy game time through my company rather than, um, the game company itself. Then after I raise a few million, I'll do my best to implement it. If I end up spending all the millions of dollars on my salary, expenses, and friends I hire as consultants, oh well at least I tried.

This is not, by any means, a 'new EVE'. It is not comparable to EVE, being of a completely different style of gameplay. It is, in fact, more comparable to Valkyrie. EVE is still something else entirely. Just because they are both in space does not mean they are comparable... take Star Wars vs Event Horizon for example.

To be honest, this is the creator of Wing Commander we're talking about. Star Citizen looks epic. I intend to get it, play it, but I'll never leave EVE.

Well, i am unlikely to throw away my investment with EVE, too. But I only play one complex game at a time, and this means that CCP will be seeing less of my monies.
Of course, a company selling a subscription based game can do well if just 10 or 15% of its subscribers are handing their time and money to another company, as long as the aforementioned company is obtaining alternate income from other sources -that is, selling other games. EVE subscriptions can fall as long as other CCP games pay for it, but then, dwindling returns also mean dwindling resources invested into the shrinking game.

But I will definitely be playing this when it comes out and the dogfight alfa due out in a few months.
This game, even if it only delivers 75% of what it has promised will be truly awesome.

I don't like defending SC on the Eve forums, because I don't think it's release will affect Eve much at all. And I don't think it will be anywhere near as good as it's making out it will be.
That said most of the people in here don't know what they're talking about;
"It's not an MMO"
They will be hosting dedicated servers with 100 systems, each system holding up to 1000 people. That's more people online than Eve has ever had. Therefore it's an MMO. An MMO that also allows you to host your own server if you so wish.
"Instance based"
So is Eve. When you put a cap on the number of people within a location because of hardware restrictions or otherwise and that location is only accessible by loading between locations, it's an instance. Simple as that.
"It's vaporware"
They have a detailed release scheduled and give regular updates on where they are at, amending the release scheduled as they go. So far they have not been late by even a single day on any next release patch/update. It's going to get finished. As for kickstarter "scams", the legality of it is very tight. If the game were never released, getting your money back is easy.
Just to clarify, I do think it's over-hyped and I don't think it will be as good as it sounds but a lot of people here are in denial because they think Eve is the best thing since antibiotics (this is the Eve forums, after all). It will probably attract a much larger playerbase than Eve, and that's not difficult.

it's really on a different scale. just like WiS is an apparent deadend for eve, massive fleet fights will probably be a no no for SC.
it's not an MMO either. it's privateer/wing commander.
and that dude who's producing it also made some horrifically bad movies in his interim career.
