So is Eve. When you put a cap on the number of people within a location because of hardware restrictions or otherwise and that location is only accessible by loading between locations, it's an instance. Simple as that.
although I do agree with you this is like saying wow and eve are the same instance based, 1 example > entire game/most game aspects instanced.
It would be the equivalent of eve getting loading screen spawned when you accept a mission. |

EvE will never die for one simple reason. People actually pay a monthly fee to CCP just so they can **** all over them and their creations. So long as CCP continues to allow people to insult them on these forums, they'll be fine. And also, a thank you to those people for their continued funding of the best MMO since Ultima Online. |

I came to Eve because Roberts last game was no longer being developed by microshit.
Its funny that "carebears" catch all kinds of **** in Eve, but in Freelancer the server had the choice to make PvP cost you or not. I always played on servers that had this option "on". Yes, it was a PvP gives you "real loss" game pre dating Eve, and the dog-fighting was twitch based, and fun as hell.
I doubt that it will harm Eve, but if its as good as Freelancer by todays standard it will definitely cut into PCU.
Cant wait to play it, doubt that I'll unsub here over it though.

Question: Who's gonna bother playing EVE, if they can play online the same kind of games they liked to play offline?
Now add how EVE's future development is aimed (apparently) at rewarding the nullsec crowd at the expense (apparently) of everyone else; add how EVE's marketing efforts (and costs) are skyrocketing and yet PCU barely is going up; add how CCP's development efforts are spreading thinner and thinner as they keep adding stuff to their portfolio but only have a single source of income; and you'll see a writing on the wall.
And the writing says: niche-locked at <20,000 PCU forever.
When videogame historians look back at the demise of EVE in a future, they will point different key moments to understand it.
The first key moment will be the failure to implement avatar gameplay in 2011. The second key moment will be the inception of the Hallelujah Plan as answer to a changing environment.
Giving up on populating the borderlands and then lock yourself at your stronghold is not a way to defend your niche against invaders. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

If its gonna be Freelancer MMO ... im sorry but im gone... that game was the bomb How I started playing EvE was I searched for an updated Elite, the site I was one said that EvE was the new Elite. Now the game was great when I started but I must admit my intrest goes down as each year and each broken promise goes by.
When I heard they were making a new Elite I was rapt, but in looking at the kick starter for Elite, I came across Star Citizen
And all I can say is, I have not looked forward to a game so much since I saw Elite for my commodore 64 all those years ago.
Will I need to update my computer: Yes Will I need to by a new joystick : Yes, well a flight control system Will I buy a trackIR just to make it more fun: Hell Yes
All I can say is Star Citizen, shut up and take my money Any spelling and grammatical errors are because frankly, I don't care!! |

Arduemont wrote:I don't like defending SC on the Eve forums, because I don't think it's release will affect Eve much at all. And I don't think it will be anywhere near as good as it's making out it will be.
That said most of the people in here don't know what they're talking about;
"It's not an MMO"
They will be hosting dedicated servers with 100 systems, each system holding up to 1000 people. That's more people online than Eve has ever had. Therefore it's an MMO. An MMO that also allows you to host your own server if you so wish.
it has the potential to have more players online than eve. but you're assuming 100 systems at max capacity. Now, I really haven't read much on it ... but do your actions in system 'A' affect system 'B'?

So is Eve. When you put a cap on the number of people within a location because of hardware restrictions or otherwise and that location is only accessible by loading between locations, it's an instance. Simple as that.
So there are limitations to jumping between systems. You're more arguing against the "single server" selling point than "not instanced". The closest thing to "instanced content" in EVE are those damnable missions that require you picking up a keycard ... though any one of the 15 I have in my hangar will let me through that same acceleration gate.
"Instanced" content is that which once you start it, it is yours and yours alone. No one that is outside your group can get into it and affect what you're doing. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |
