Edited by: subvert on 27/01/2006 11:04:11 Do you refine or sell, and why? I have looked at some items and calculated the mins. Some prices are decent for the refiners to charge, some not so decent. I'm just wondering what all of you do, lazy quick sell, calculate and then decide, hoard your items up in a vault, or refine and gather your mins to sell them? I'm talking about t1 trash loot.\
edit; sorry if this is in the wrong section. I was going to put it in ships and modules, but its not specific modules, so I figure mission is best because loot = NPCing = missions.

I'm too lazy to check for prices so once in a while i refine all non-named loot. Most named loot i put in a container.

I reprocess all mine. Unnamed stuff rarely fetches a useful price on the market, and I can use the minerals more easily than the money.
(seeing as I use mods which are hard to come by in this area; I just build my own)

In the beginning I gathered loot and sold in stacks of at least 10.
Now I just keep named loot and refine the rest at 97.85%. Much easier - and whatever little loss I thereby incur on myself is definitely acceptable.

I don't bother to loot the trash items. It's far faster and more profitable for me to use an inty to check each can, take what I want, and blow up the remainder. The only T1/trash items I loot are battleship sized weapons and some misc junk I know I can sell right away (med hull reps, 250mm railguns, med smarbombs, etc). I have more minerals than I know what to do with from running Rogue Drone missions. So I have no desire to haul around the large piles of mostly trit and pyerite that seems to come from recycling junk loot

I seperate loot out into 3 catagories.
1. Named, which I'll use or drop on the market. 2. Trash, which includes all Civvy, Basic and most small loot, which gets recycled on a regular basis. 3. The rest, which I'll leave to pile up for a week or so, then I'll check demand and pricing. Worth selling it gets sold, otherwise it goes into the recycle pile.
Generally I'll try to sell anything medium or bigger, and have trained up the marketing skills so I can drop 40+ sells on the market and leave them for 2 weeks minimum. Didnt take long to do and its a useful (if not extravagant) source of income to supplement the missions.

Named stuff I keep or sell. Non-named stuff I will keep if I think I may need to use it (mostly turrets, armour reps, etc.) Other stuff, basic stuff all gets kept in a "Junk" can and refined every so often.
I sometimes go through the stuff that I DO keep and refine some if I have more than I will use (I found I had 148 rocket launchers so 1208 of those got refined)
Did a big refine last night and almost had enough to build a T1 BS.

I refine even the named stuff, unless it is the best named stuff. So for example named guns, I keep the 15% and 20% greater damage versions for sale, and reprocess the 5% and 10% greater damage versions because there isn't a real market for them.

Refine most of the stuff i get from missions unless it is something I know is worth selling.

i refine everything thats worth less then 1 mill, put all the godd stuff in a can and take a trip to hi sec once in a while to put on the market.
refining trash is great, it's like an 'allmost' free battleship every couple months, when i have enough low end mins to build a bs im allways short on zyd n mega.

I refine everything under 50K ISK. All other stuff I either put on the market or keep in my hangar for possible future use. It's a nice extra trickle of income.

I am stealing your method.

I just refine everything except the best named items and then use the minerials to build more ammo, ships, items or whatever I need. I have already been able to build a 2nd battleship using this method. Mind you the items that I generally refine are Battlecrusier/ Battleship size items. -----------------------------------------------

my CEO is a hoarder of the worst type, there is now so much crap in our corp hangar that the station management are complaining.
so I just refine everything unless it is a seriously sexy bit of named kit.
he actually complains at me when I do this. my response is 'And you're hoarding all those mods cos we couldnt possibly live without them could we.' His response was 'you never know when we might need them.' The word 'never' springs to mind cos we have kit bpo's and I don't use T1 mods at all now cos I can afford T2/best named.
Even the prophecy I use for L3 missions is stuffed to the gunwhales with T2 kit.
My advice to anyone is: have enough kit spare to rekit the ship you currently fly. Aim to have a fully kitted spare ship in your hangar. anything else is just a waste of minerals/isk.
