There has been a lot of talk recently of players who contribute to Eve by creating content and enriching our experience, and if you care to I'd love to hear your personal experience with any of these players. Be they bloggers, pod casters, forum hosters, forum warriors, service providers (free or for profit), event organisers or disruptors, helpful randoms you stumbled across in local, patient corp mates or Ceos, ISDs, CSMs, tutorial makers, artists, role players or story tellers, new player corporations or others: Who are they and how have they impacted your game?

Not to argue the point, but there's been a lot of talk about this for the past 10 years. Really, there has been.
Player content has driven the game since Day 1. Peter Marshall: Back in the 1870s, Emile Berliner invented something, and without it, I wouldn't be able to do my job. What was it? -á Paul Lynde:-á ...Makeup? Capped teeth? Loud sports jackets? |

I agree, it has just been more obvious recently - I've also been out of touch for a while and sincerely interested in finding out who they are and what they do. Not surprised that Torn was the first to be mentioned :) I'm for sale, 113mil SP: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=286237

For me it's nGR RDNx.
He's been slowly building the AU TZ community for a couple of years now and is the guy behind the whole movement which has become known as Eve Down Under. He toiled in relative obscurity, running his radio show for week after week in Eve's weakest timezone for a long time, and has managed to gather together an ever increasing chunk of the players in our region.
In 2012 he took a risk and organised the first Eve Down Under player gathering in Sydney. It was my first real Eve meetup (outside of a few nerds getting together at a pub) and it was a big success. My experience at that event was the reason I took the leap and went to fanfest in Iceland this year.
Because of RDNx I'm more involved in Eve & its community and more passionate about the game then I've ever been in the nine years I've been playing. The same probably goes for a lot of other people as well.
And now I've found myself working with RDNx helping to organise Eve Down Under this year! I'm really excited about it looking forward to being there in November. When I showed up last year I knew maybe two or three people in the room; this year I'll know probably know dozens.
I'm going to have the time of my life and so will a bunch of other nerds, thanks to RDNx's hard work and faith in the community. EVE Down Under 2013 (Australia's very own fanfest) with special guests CCP Fozzie & Chribba! 29th Nov to 1st Dec in Sydney, Australia www.evedownunder.com |

Ok, well let me tell you about this Rixx Javix.
I was plexing frog sites in Verge Vendor in a Condor. I see Rixx and a Stay Frosty gang jumping back and forth between Loes, Agoze, and Ouelletta. I tell myself, "If you make a couple of jumps, you can totally bypass Rixx and gang altogether."
Needless to say...I was wrong.
I jump into Loes, and wait to see if the Frosty gang follows. At first, I think I am okay. Don't need to go any further away from Old Man Star, the system I was temporarily basing out of...for my deep behind enemy lines plexing. I pop open a Small plex, start the timer, and start my orbit. Of course, because I am not a junkie for isk, I was fit completely sig tanked, hoping for gunships.
So I am a minute into my timer, when local spikes. It is the Stay Frosty gang, helmed by Mr. Javix.
I begin spamming D-scan, waiting for someone to show up on my gate. Praying for a AB-fit gunship, I am slightly appalled to find the Hawk that Rixx was flying earlier...warping into my site. The fight goes as expected, with Rixx using some black magic to catch up to my 3600m/s Condor. He gets several good pop shots in, as he closes into the range on his Rocket launchers. I am saying to myself, "I know it isn't worth much, but I REALLY do not want to have to fly all the way back (5 jumps) to reship."
Rixx hits the first of my structure, and in response, I overheat my mid rack, hoping to get a tiny bit of speed boost...at least enough to get away. A second volley hits my structure and my Condor starts burning, and thinking I had already lost, due to being pretty horrible at pvp, I align to Ouelletta, in an attempt to get my pod out safely. So I start spamming my warp button, thinking I would just get my pod out, go reship, and continue about my business. At that moment, however, I realized I had make it out to 28km during my kite. So even though I was burning, the Condor made it out alive.
Local chat then proceeds to play out something like this:
Me: Holy crap, I just got away from Rixx Javix in a fight, lol.
Rixx: How much structure did you have left?
Me: 6hp
Rixx: Lolz.
Rixx: Good job m8
Me: Thanks, just luck. Lucky align and burn on my MWD.
Rixx: Take it where you can.
Me: Oh, trust me. I do. I am pretty horrible at pvp.
Rixx: (with sarcasm) Me too.
Now, of course, I was bouncing celestials, waiting for my crimewatch timers to deplete. However, the remainder of the Stay Frosty gang was actively working to close down the system, not allowing my little Condor to leave. I warp to 100 on the Agoze gate, but stagnate there for a minute as I worked to set my destination back home, while simultaneously talking to Rixx, and trying to play the bounce game. But due to an overabundance of multitasking, I didn't notice the Stay Frosty Caracal land right next to me at 100 on the Agoze gate. I was vaporized immediately under the assault of Rapid Light Missiles.
As I limped across system in my pod, a "gf" pops in local from my killer, as well as a snarky, but playful "Oh noes!!!" from Rixx Javix. I laugh to myself, and write a "Yep, gf." back to my killer, and go about my day.
It wasn't until later in the evening, as I was packing out of the warzone, due to TEST's new choice of endeavor (you guys need to just die off, rather than mucking up our warzone), that I realize that despite getting away, Rixx had still won. He out-meta'd me using local chat, lol. But regardless, it made me have a good laugh and let me leave CalMil on a high note. Also made me realize that next time...better gang up, lol.
Anyway, that is my only run-in with a "content creator" in EVE. Unless you count shooting Chribba with fireworks as he orbited Amarr 8 - Emperor Family Academy with the Veldnaught.
Irregardless, despite having lost "The Little Condor That Could," it was a good time, and it taught me yet another valuable lesson. Don't let Rixx Javix distract you in local. Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense. |
