Does anyone have the calculation for the Refining(R) and Refining Efficiency(RE) skills?
I know they have a 2%/4% reduction on wastage, but a simple (R*2+RE*4)% reduction does not work!
I am trying to put together a spearsheet so that my corp can calculate ore/minerals values whilst mining.
Thanks in advance

The amount of wineral which is refined, seems to be: whole minerals * 0.75 * (1 + 0.02*R) * (1 + 0.04*RE)
Example: You refine 333 Veldspar (which contains 1000 Tritanium) and have Refining Skill 5 and Refining Efficiency 4, then you get: 1000 * 0.75 * 1.10 * 1.16 = 957 Tritanium

Using this calculation, there is an 2%/4% (per level) increase in the amount of minerals _you get_ and a corresponding 6%/12% reduction in the wastage. (2% of the 75% you get) = (6% of the 25% wastage).
The description of the skills are, therefore, incorrect?

The descriptions are, indeed, incorrect.
This is the case with many skills/modules... ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

I think the description is correct. It states that you will get (-2% refining waste reduction per level.)
On Veldspar the base waste for refining trit is 24.4% (.6% for a service charge or whatever) With Refining Level 1 the waste becomes 22.4%, Level 2 - 20.4% and so on.
Level 5 would take off 10% or make the waste 14.4% + .6% service charge, your effective yield would be 85%.
Don't know what effect refining efficency would have. Hopefully someone would elaborate.

In the end, even with Level 5 in Refine and Refine Effic. you will still loose 1%. Thus the highest yield you can expect is 99% of total amount.

If so, then there is no point going past level 3 refine eff, (waste reduction of 22%), going to level 4 would give only a minimal gain.
Something I just noticed, when refining pyro the base waste on nox is 27.27% the only one over 25%. I haven't checked it in game yet, just going by the ore info one eve-i.

The description IS INCORRECT.
One of my alts has Refining Efficiency 5. I can confirm that my refining yields have always matched Helison's equation, which is the same equation I give to people. At Eff 5, the effective yield calculated with his equation is 99% and 99% is what I get.
As to base waste on pyro being different - Most likely a rounding effect. I believe the more refines you perform, the closer it will approximate 75% yield. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

I can confirm the equation provided by Helison, backed up by BSOD, as being correct.
I have finished my spreadsheet and confirmed the results by refining several ore types that I had to hand.
The problem was that, as stated, the description is incorrect and the calculations are performed on the 'you get' amount and NOT the wastage!
The spreadsheet has slight differences (maybe 1 or 2 units), but this is most likely due to rounding errors somewhere in the calculations.
Thanks to all who helped sort this out.
