I'm wondering if anyone else has been having this problem. Since RMR occasionally, maybe once a week, we'll have a gang going around ganking like normal and at some point we'll go to a belt, kill someone and, seemingly cause we're deadlocked, as soon as they blow up everyone in the gang that participated in the kill completely locks up.
By lock up I mean nothing works. Can't CRTL+ALT+DEL, no ALT+TAB, nothing. What really sucks is that untill you reboot your character stays in Eve. It's like the server is still recieving data from our client so it doesn't log us out, untill we reboot.
This happened today, luckly I was 4 jumps out waiting on agro to wear off, but all my buddies on TS locked up. Unfortunatly for them the one ship that exploded had 4 buddies still alive and kicking and they killed and podded all the guys in my gang because there ships basically went limp.
I'm not whining, I'm simply asking if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, is it when you pop someone? I think it has something to do with kill rights. It's the only thing I can imagine locking up an entire gang as they gank someone. But that's just my thoughts I have nothing to prove it other than circumstance.

What it sounds like is a hard crash, ive had a few. Some were due to an HDD freezing up, some were to my vid card overheating. Does this only happen with eve?

Yeah it only happens in Eve and we know it's the the HDD because it's everyone in the game, and we are all still talking to each other on Teamspeak. So the HDD and Windows has to still be functioning.

Bump. No one else in this forum has had it happen? In the Crime and Punishment forum people have responded. I'd like to know if the devs know of this bug and if they plan on fixing it.

since you can replicate this bug easily, i would reccomend running the logserver and capturing what happens at the moment this bug occurs, send the log server off with a bug report (http://bugs.eve-online.com) and be as full and as concise as possible.
A bug report with a log file is (hopefullyÖ) much more likely to get looked at.

Goodluck,
Difficult to save those logs when the computer locks up though...
My computer locks up aswell occasionally (the screen goes black and I can still hear ts). Haven't been able to figure out why yet.

Yes, I've been having similar issues. Often several times while I'm on EVE, I'll get sudden freezes that will (at times) last long enough to get me disconnected completely or even crash the game - something that was never a problem until right before RMR was released. This seems to be the biggest problem when I'm doing missions or complexes. Complexes in particular give really random connection and game crash issues.
Such issues are taking their toll as well. I lost a Navy Megathron recently when the above comments resulted during a mission. I log back in to find a pod. Yeah, I wasn't happy... so obviously these issues cause more stress on the petition operators as well.
I indeed hope these matters are being looked at. -this space left intentionally blank- |

Scorpyn,
I used to get that. Occasionally, (days or a week, say) the screen would go black. But it appeared the PC will still running. I just could not see anything. I installed the latest video drivers and the problem appears (knock wood) to have gone away.

I get lock ups quite often too. Mostly after performing some random action, like opening char info and something else that normally *does not* create much lag, my puter freezes completely (can still move the mouse but thats about it), and shows HDD as working. It may take any time from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. And I dont seem to be logging off eve during the freezeup either caus I always find myself at the exact same location as when the freeze had started. It just freezes for a minute or two. Very annoying.

we have gone threw the motions of bug/pet the problem. we are asking people if this has happened to them so we can prove it wasnt luck. when 4 ships lock up all at the same time, i live in mn one lives in kansas 1 in england. the other i know not
this is something that needs help from the public to get a full look at.
(if we had said i got blew up by a pirate bacause my screen went black the bug would have been fixed

Edited by: SunWuKong on 02/02/2006 18:50:12 Edited by: SunWuKong on 02/02/2006 18:50:01 The first time I played RMR, I went into a 1/10 complex and as soon as I tried to take my first shot at the second arena (where more than just one NPC is waiting), It locked up. I could see everything still and could move my mouse. (I had EVE in Windows mode) I could not move my mouse outside the EVE Window. I restarted and it hasn't happened since. That was about a week ago.

I get this alot i have found i only get it in one lvl4 mission and at approx the same place within that mission everytime, the eve client locks 100% while windows and teamspeak run fine afterwards. ================================================== I hate forums so much. 90% sig pictures, 10% content. |

Yeah, I get this, and it's worse lately (since RMR?) Screen freezes for a time, then suddenly starts moving again. We are talking multiple seconds here, sometimes up to 10 or so.

Response ([GM]Panzer) - 02/02/2006 05:42 PM Hi Robert,
We are sorry to hear about your ship loss. Unfortunately we can not verify that there was a specific server-side problem at the time or that a bug/error was involved in the loss. This doesn't mean that we doubt your description of events, but unfortunately it keeps our hands tied in regards to reimbursement. Our reimbursement policies are very strict and we can only reimburse if we can fully verify what happened. We hope you understand our position and that you will recover swiftly from the loss.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again. We'll do all we can to help.

Regards,
Considering that teamspeak kept working (at least I could hear others, didn't try talking) I'd say that it's probably the same problem. Last time I got it was with the 6.1 catalyst drivers though, so updating the drivers didn't work in my case (and please don't suggest installing the 5.12 drivers, I'm pretty sure ati wouldn't enjoy the vpu recover report spamming to continue).
The last thing I've tried so far is to reduce the apg speed from 8x to 4x. I haven't crashed yet since, but the crashes are so rare that it's way too early to tell whether it worked as intended or not.

Edited by: Maya Rkell on 02/02/2006 23:47:03 Interesting. Going to suggest you use a driver cleaner then a complete graphics driver reinstall. (don't forget the control pannel, etc.)

Been there done that (including a full os reinstall).
The omega drivers use the same binaries as the catalyst drivers anyway, they are just pretweaked differently.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DRIVERS
im sorry to be blunt but when it happens to 4+people ALL at the same time its not drivers, and it wasnt lag as the ships were destroyed by enemys Signature graphics are permitted, as far as i know text is not a graphic, so ya my sig please |

If they were at the same place at the same time with similar hardware then it might still be a driver issue.

Or a local server node hickup, maybe even caused by a bug on the server siftware. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

Even if there is a bug that causes the client to go black, ctrl-alt-delete should still work, which is not the case here. Making that happen by a server side bug is not one of the first few hundred things I'd suspect, but might still be somewhat possible if there is both a clientside and a serverside bug working together (such as an unprotected buffer somewhere).

Has happened to us on several occasions. I think its a anti-piracy device packaged into our client. TS and Vent work while we sit and stare at frozen computers.
My final thought was it has to be someone hitting the I-WIN button.
