Basic human behavior really. The individual is part of the family clan. The clan is part of a tribe. The tribe is part of a nation.
Strong clans attract other clans to form a tribe. Strong tribes can form nations by subjugating or allying with weaker neighboring tribes.
In eve, there are many that wish to make isk in peace. Sov has very good and easy isk, and the CFC has some of the safest sov space in the game. They join the CFC and are allowed to rat and plex in the safest areas of sov in exchange for service (showing up to structure shoots).
Don't know why people find it surprising. Bears flock to the winning side. When that side stops winning, they leave. It happened time and time again. The old NC comes to mind as an example. |

Idk about that. The goons organized and led one of the largest and most successful coaltions in Eve. That certainly deserves respect.
The bulk of the rest of the CFC however... they joined because it was the safe thing to do. And they will leave when it is no longer safe. Just as they did before in their past alliances. |
