I'm hoping to get one of these ships soon, and I was hoping one someone who knows a bit about the Buzzard, or even the class could tell me about just what you can achieve with these great ships.
Information about the pros and cons of this class, the cloaking modules and setups for the Buzzard would be highly appreciated as well.

Well the pros of covert op frigs is obviously it's stealth. So you can pretty much go anywhere you want too. Unless you run into a warp bubble with decent inty pilots paying attention. You also have a wide range of mid slots to use a elite EW platform with. You can do a lot with that for defense or offensive. The covert ops also have great CPU for that support. Which in the buzzards case is really good. All covert ops can have no fitting for the covert op cloak when and if you get it to level V. It marks the best probe SS finding ship in the game. If you use it for scouting/finding.
Cons well it's a frigate. You can only do so much in a small ship. The dps is very small for most cruiser tanks and ect (But decent for frig vs frig engagements). Some of the ships have a lot more problems with probe launcher fittings than others but that's not a problem if you train to V. Some are pretty slow than others and is a pain when caught in a warp bubble. They're also very fragile due to no good resistances however, cloaking gives you that advantage.

Make sure you add "biomass" to your overview. There are few things more annoying than being decloaked at a camped gate by someone else's corpse!

They are fun ships for sure, but they are terrible EW platforms. They can't really take any hits and they don't have the cap to sustain EW for long at all. They have their uses though. Transporting expensive BPOs or skills in 0.0 space is one place they shine. And Scout/Warp location for Fleet Ops. In the end though, the 1 and a 1/2 to 2 months you spent to get the cloaking skills and Cover Ops Ships up to par makes these not really worth the time. I did it because it was before the stealth bombers and such fun things, but in the end, mine comes out when someone tells me to scout. Other then that, I fly 'normal' ships.

Covops -are the king of the safespot busters (scan probes in 75 secs with top skills) -get you anywhere you want to go -good for those that like to watch
The buzzard in particular -can mount a nasty bag of EW tricks. Really nasty. Maybe not to play alone, but as a support inside a fleet (not right off the bat, but when everybody is exchageing blows), a buzzard uncloaking and putting 4 dampers on somebody can have some interesting side effects.
>>WARNING THOUGH<<: RMR brought the covop cruisers, that can also mount the covop cloak. But... AFAIK there have been no more BPOs of said cloak. Result: more demand, same offer, the prices of the cloak are over the god damned mother ******* frickin' roof, and I'm talking a very, VERY high roof in here. Taller than your average tall skyscraper.
Picture 30 million and above, where the covops are usually below 10 millions... and if you lose the ship, your enemy may loot your cloak, adding insult to injury).
Hope that helps!!

As a point of interest to me - which skills got your scan time down to 75 seconds?
Also I completely agree about all cloak supplies. The number of ships that can use all cloaks is increasing and the number of cloak prints does not seem to be keep ing up. Even advanced T2 cloaks have doubled in price from 10mill isk to 20mill isk since christmas. All other cloaks seem to following a similar trend . On the otherhand there seems to be plenty of suppliers of covert ships and bombers as these are very cheap for tech 2 ships.

Edited by: Eyeshadow on 02/02/2006 11:08:19 With covert ops 5 and Astrometrics 5 the scan probe time if 75 seconds. Covert ops 5 is nice too as it means you can actually fit stuff to a covert frig without the need for a cpu. TBH though, a covert frig should be used for scouting, probing and getting warp ins. Using it for actual combat is not a great idea as they are extremely weak and have hardly any fire power
Now, the covert cruisers are a little different and much more powerful in actual combat. They have fairly weak firepower (bar the pilgrim really) but they get good EW bonuses and other goodies to go with, but no scan probe bonus. Im liking the look of my alts falcon, should be fun to fly

Hmm, interesting. I've noticed that the prices are ridiculously high as well, hopefully they'll decrease somewhat in the near future.

Just adding some noob questions here: > is it possible to warp cloaked in a Cov Ops? > can you cargo/ship scan while cloaked? > I believe being close to an enemy decloacks you. How close is that?
Thnx.

Yes, no, 2km. note that warp in a cov-ops ships is limited to a covert ops cloak only, not doable with a prototype or improved cloak.

Yes, but. The ability to warp cloaked is something that comes from the Covert Ops Cloak, not the ship itself. CovOps are, yes, the only ships that can use that module... but if you put a 'normal' cloak on the CovOp, you cannot warp cloaked.
This may sound obvious, but the skills needed for fitting the covop cloak are not the same that the ones you need for the ship... so most noobs (like myself ) end up training the skills for the ship, buying all the stuff, running all excited to their hangars... and finding out they still don't have the skills to put everything together. Bit frustrating, lemme tell ya.
Bottom line: if you go covops (smart choice, fun ship!), be sure to check the skills for both the ship and the cloak before spending the money on all the toys.

Another question before I get myself one: does a Cov Op show up in local?

You always show up in local. The fact that you are in a cov ops is not stated, but people always see your face in local. This has been the subject of much complaint.
