There is always a first time for everyone...
I noticed a Mammoth lock and scan me. I do a cargo scan on him and he's go an empty hull sitting next to the gate. I'm thinking...this is probably one of those lame suicide Ravens you read about...
The mammoth follows me through the gate and I warp to next gate. I notice a mammoth and Raven come out of warp behind me so I line up with another gate and warp...as I'm warping away I see the raven go KABOOM and a little pod let standing....here is the local chat:
EVE System > Channel changed to Urlen Local Channel Phantom Doc > LMAO Phantom Doc > Lost a RAVEN you dumbass Jen'Tai > haha Jen'Tai > that is the first time a hauler has survived Phantom Doc > That's because I'm not a freakin noob either. Phantom Doc > My cargo isn't worth 75m and you lost a Raven Jen'Tai > haha, watch it buddy, you have like 15% struc :) Phantom Doc > Damn I'm posting that to the Eve-O forums. Jen'Tai > dude, a raven costs 20m to lose Phantom Doc > whatever Phantom Doc > try 80m Jen'Tai > can buy them for 95, 105 insurance Jen'Tai > 30m for insurance Jen'Tai > = 20m. Jen'Tai > do the math Phantom Doc > still, you lost one...and it's funny

Edited by: itsatrappp on 02/02/2006 06:58:01 the OP is a retard.
i bet he is one of those miners who thinks they are "saving" money by mining the minerals themselves when they could be out ratting making making more isk per hour and just buy the minerals and have isk left over in the same amount of time.
you did not know that it does only cost him a net of ~30mil with basic gear+insurance shows that you are a fking noob. alot of retards have more than 30mil in their cargo bay. it is a calculated risk (which you are unable to do yourself). imo you need to delete this post because it shows how dumb you are. he is only risking 30mil at a time to get what..upwards of double the profit? that is pretty good rate of return. again you posted this to try to flame him, but the only thing you proved is how dumb you are. it is not a personal attack, it is the truth.

I know someone who just recently suicided Raven in hisec space to Iteron V .. he got Tech2 loots worth of 800mil.
Your call if he was stupid? ________________________________________________________

It was 900million. And it was all in 150mm T2s. >.< How sad. NAGA wont buy 'em off him either, but he did good. Atleast he atlast found a buyer. ---- Anyway, I dont think the Raven pilot was a noob. You can make good money that way. The sec hit is only around a -0.1, that can be cleared up by cleaning up less then 10mil worth of NPC bounty. I could see someone easly making enough to pay for time cards doing that alone, and nothing else.

putting 800m of stuff in one place at once isn't the most intelligent thing either...
and how hard would it really be to set up an indy (or maybe transport ship? if your gonna be transporting that much in one place...) to have enough HP to be able to definitively survive such an attack, rather than by chance and speed?
and if you were transporting THAT much stuff through lower sec, couldn't you keep it in a secure can and jettison it once you knew you were screwed, and anchor it from your pod? or would there likely be too much stuff nearby and all to make that possible....
<noob> it'll be a while before I'll have to worry about risking that much to begin with anyway.

Thats possible but you won't know your screwed till your ship goes boom in most cases and the time it takes to anchor the can, would be to long. That the hauler would simple scoop it befor you could anchor it, also you can't anchor in systems 0.8 and above I beleave. That raven pilot is no noob and the OP was just lucky |

I for one think it's hilarious. Too bad the iteron V pilot didn't get the kill mail on the Raven. Well done on being alert and not getting ganked by these petty thieves who don't have the skills to come out to 0.0 and fight people who are ready for them.
Maybe the un-experienced Raven pilot will learn from his mistakes and be able to properly setup his ship next time. But then again, I wouldn't expect it from someone of that caliber.

Which is exactly my point, thanks for emphasizing it.
So what people here are saying is, he lost 30mil . . . so what. Well, it wouldnt be a loss if he actually got the kill, HAHA! That is the point of the OP i believe.

From now on I'll put secure cans in my cargo (empty or full) and nobody will know if I'm carting empty cans or 10 homeless people.
He tried to make some isk and failed. To be sure, I wasn't laughing until the Raven popped! I was like, "Warp WARP WARP!!!"
I do advocate CCP invalidating insurance contracts when illegal activities are performed and a ship loss occurs. Seems like the insurance company would enjoy the opportunity to get out of their contract. Kind of like real-life.

Actually it seems Jen'Tai and Theoraden are basing their EVE careers on mugging people in freighters. Note that this is as easy to do in 1.0 as 0.0 security space!
They took out my corp mate's mammoth yesterday in Jita, which is 1.0 space. Noobs? No I don't think so, just *******s who make A LOT OF PROFIT by sacrificing a Raven and having their buddy grab what's left of the cargo from the two ship.
My poor corp mate lost EVERYTHING, it was all on the Mammoth, 4 billion isk worth of stuff, the poor guy is throwing in the towel after a year and a half of EVE. And Jen'tai only lost a Raven (Admittedly it was probably ill advised for my corp mate to have everything on one ship, but it was 1.0 space!).
The question is: should CCP consider this an exploit? What's the point of having 1.0 space if people can lose all their stuff, with the perpetrators facing very little consequences (i.e 30 million from loss of raven)?
Food for thought,

Funniest part about this...I warned him about 20-30 minutes before this happened to watch out for this EXACT THING and to only haul in Secure Cans Oh well, at least he paid enough attention to expect it and didn't lose his ship.
I would 100% agree with the invalidating insurance contracts on ships lost to illegal activities. Only problem is, that until gang aggression is possible without CONCORD intervention, this would cause people that accidently aggressed a gang mate during a mission would lose their insurance too...
Now, for discussion about this tactic. It sucks from the standpoint that even if you have a fleet of battleships escorting your indy pilot, there is nothing you can do about this tactic, as it is generally a one to two volley tactic and CONCORD actually would blow them up faster than the fleet defenders. You can't proactively protect your indy without taking the hit yourself, and even then, the Raven pilot and everyone else can then freely attack you because you were the aggressor. I guess about the only tactic possible is to take a logistics ship along with you everywhere and constantly have shield transfers ready to go at a moment's notice during the transit at the gates. Instajumps would also preclude a lot of this, as they would have to scan you and attack you after jump-in as you were aligning for the next insta. ---------- |

I don't see a problem with suicide ships. It's been around as long as the game has.
I also don't see much difference to using a Kestrel or a Raven - you lose the ship, but hope to gain more than your loss in loot.
As noted above, security loss matters, as a Raven pilot isn't a recycable suicide alt in the same way a Kestrel pilot is. So these days, using a suicide BS, the tactic is even less lame than it used to be.
Um, what's the point of the mammoth locking the target indy though?

If this is the same guy that sacrificed his raven to blow up some guy's hauler in Jita (containing everything he owned and worth over 1bn isk) then its a pretty sound tactic i'd say. --------------------------------------------------

No food for thought. You can still get mugged in a nice neighbourhood.
It's plain silly to put all your stuff one one fragile ship.
