Hi all. I just got my first cruiser, a Rupture. I got it from a corp mate that was generous enough to include some cool goodies with it.
Currently I have 3 200mm Dual ACs and 2 Malkuth(sp) Launchers. I just started LVL2 missions out of Rens and find that the ACs have trouble tracking most of the Angel frigates that I've been fighting. I don't have a ton of skills in gunnery yet, off the top of my head -- Gunnery 3, Med Proj Turret 3, Motion Prediction 1
I'm almost done researching the skills to be able to use a webber which I anticipate will help a great deal. Any suggestions on the best setup given my slow ship (450 m/s with AB) and noob skills?
Also, I'm not sure how long the LVL2 missions will just have frigates. I anticipate fighting slower, larger npcs soon... I hope that assumption is correct. Thanks for the help I thought since this game is called Eve that I'd play a female character. Is that a good enough excuse for a guy? |

I've never seen more than one cruiser in a level 2 mission. - Ship Gallery - Helpdesk from Hell |

You might have more joy hitting the frigates (and cruisers) in lvl2s with an arty set-up; eg 4x650 or 720 howies; 2x heavy launchers or assaults.
Shield boost, AB and something else of your choice in the mids and gyros/your choice in the lows.
Try 650s until your skill sare up high enough that you can fit 720s on. 450 m/s should be about enough to keep rats at the 20-50km distance your howies will need. An arty Rup is a great mission-grinding machine. The problem is having to go all the way back for the cans...

I tried an artillery setup last night after getting frustrated wasting craploads of ammo on empty space. Takes forever to get those cans, and I have to ask myself if its worth it. Thanks for the help. Damon

I love my rupture, here's my set up:
High Slots: 4x 425mm Gallium Machine Guns 2x Medium Nospheratus
Mid Slots: 1x AB 1x Warp Scrambler 1x Web
Low Slots: 2x Small Armor Repair 1x Warp Stabilizer 1x Resistance Plating (14% all) 1x 200mm Plating
Drones: 3x Hammerhead 1 (medium scout)
Basically I just move in, web, and armor tank till my guns blow them up

A webber was enough for me to hit pretty much anything in a level 2 mission with my 220ACs. For lvl 2 missions, I'd use a webber, AB and a target painter in the mid slots. Occasionally I'd switch out the painter for a cap booster for the really tough missions. Also, don't forget that you have other ways of dealing with frigates. Possibly Assault launchers in the other 2 high slots and you have a drone bay. Light drones also make quick work out of frigates.

Use missles+drones on small frigs. They really don't need THAT much to kill. And you can try switching to Assult Missle Launchers. Greater clip, greater RoF.

my current setup is
4 180's/emp-m, 2 heavy launchers with widowmakers 1 10nm ab, 2 webbers 86.5% i think 1 med armor repair, 1x400 rolled titanium,3 cap recharging devices.. good for 65% increase in cap recharging rate.. 3 med drones.. hammerheads
with this setup I can tank for a decent period of time.. and deal out sufficent damage to kill most rats encountered down to .2 sectors.. cant speak to lower yet as I haven't gotten there yet.
this is purely a pve setup as you can see.

APEX,
I also had a hard time hitting frigs in the Level 2 missions -- even with Dual 180s equipped and a webber AND a target painter. My gunnery skills are all in the 3-4 range for reference. I switched to an Artillery/Heavy launcher set up and have never had a problem since. If given the option, I warp in at 40km range, lock 5 and they go down fast -- usually one salvo per frig/drone. Cruisers are fairly rare in L2 missions, but they're easy as well. I rarely get hit and have not gotten into my armor since going to this set up. I also can easily kill any NPC 'rat in 0.3 space (again, warp into the belt at range 40-60km):
High:
4x 650mm Prototype I Siege Cannons 2x "Limos" Heavy Missile Launchers
Mid:
1x named Target Painter (optional... don't need it for most encounters) 1x Langour webber (again... almost never used, but if they get close, you can web and "Keep at range") 1x named AB
Low:
2x RCU I's 1x named Gyrostabilizer 1x 400mm plate (named) 1x Med armor rep
I use Widowmaker and Thunderbolt missiles to vary EM and Therm damage
I use almost exclusively Nuclear M ammo in the siege cannons which makes my optimal range 30km and gives me very effective hits out to 40km. 40km is where you want to fight with this ship... but it can hit at 10km very well also. If they get too close, web and "Keep at range" ...
Since I switched to this setup (and you can tweak it here and there) I have easily beat every Level 2 mission. You need Engineering at 4 to fit the equipment, but its very effective.
