i am sure there is something out there that is exactly what i am after, i have looked about a bit and not found it so maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
i am going to start getting into ECM and while i have been playing for 4 months i havn't yet memorised which ship belongs to which race (i thought i was doing well, then i found out about faction ships and RMR ), let alone sensor strength, sensor type and appropriate ECM module for that type of sensor. (the last two are the easy ones)
i was wondering if there was a database that will rapidly give me these details if for example, i just know the ship name. (Thorax, Vexor, Caracal etc. you get the idea)
an excel spreedsheet would be ideal.

This is a simple tip for memorizing stuff...
Gallente : Mythical Characters Caldari : Birds Amarr : Dramatic Words, Apocalyptic Thigns Minmatar : Things that hurt
I don't know the fation ships off hand, but I believe you can look them up at eve.grismar.net =)

Also, if you take a quick look at them, ammar are usually yellow, pointy and (in my opinion) needlessly phallic =P caldari are grey boxes. Gallente are usually green and rounded. Minmatar look like you took a perfectly good ship, coated it in glue and rolled it in a junk heap.

Edited by: Lorette on 03/02/2006 05:26:28 I find the best way is to just look at the ship; amarr are always big and golden, gallante are usually green and blobby, caldari are ugly and militaristic (silver and straight edges), minmatar are the easiest....they look like they are made from scrap

All racial ships have a different space-colour background. Matari is Red, Amarr is blue.
Those are only 4 colours to memorize, and you can tell by merely clicking on the enemy, as the overview selector will show a small pic of the ship in question.

Overview -> Setting -> Ships
checky the lil 'Ship Type'
whenever u click on a name and look at it with ur camera, it should say 'Pilot Name' [their corp] <alliance> 'ship type'
like if you saw me it would be
DarknessInc[HROLT]'Apocalypse' if you clicky the 'ship name' aswell it will come out to DarknessInc[HROLT]'ARN Emperor's Pride' 'Apocalypse'

DarknessInc, yeah bringing up the ship name is very useful, my problem is still relating that name to race (as well as sensor strength). like everyone else has mentioned. there are some general clues but i was hopeing to find a quick reference guide.
Estya, that is a really good tip, thanks heaps, i think this will be one of the simplest solutions.

Don't know if there's a database that'll give you the quick-look info you're asking for. I can at least provide you the general ECM categories with respects to ship class and racial differences.
---Ship Class Differences---
Frigate Class (Frigs, Interceptors, Destoryers, Assualt Frigs) = 8-15 sensor strength
Cruiser Class (Cruisers and HACs) = much tighter grouping, 12-16 sensor strength...the BB is the only expection with a sensor strength of 20.
Battlecruiser Class = 16-19 sensor strength.
Battleship Class = pretty big spread of 17-24 sensor strengths, Amarr 'Geddons being the worst and Scorps having the highest.
---Racial Differences---
Amarr = weakest, typically in the lower end of the sensor strength spread for each ship class.
Minmatar = slightly weaker than Gallente, but more or less on par with them. Typically in the middle of each ship class spread.
Gallente = Typically in the middle of the spread. The Dom is a notable exception which is on par with the Raven.
Caldari = Strongest, typically on the upper end of the spectrum...usually 2 or more sensor strength points greater than other equivalent racial ships.
To give you an idea of how sensor strengths translates into gameplay, lets assume a jamming strength of 10 pts (T2 racial jamemr + adv skills). A 10 pt jam provides almost a 100% jam agianst an Amarr frigate while agianst a Caldari frigate that is reduced to ~67%. Therefore 2 racial jammer pretty much guarentees a successful jam agianst any frigate class ship.
If we look at the battleships, a 10 pt jam gives you approx. 60% jam agianst an Amarr 'Geddon and ~ 40% agianst a Caldari Scorpion. That's a pretty significant racial difference. If we exclude the 'Geddon, then to guarentee a successful jam agianst a battleship you'll need at least 3 T2 racial jammers...possibly even 4 agianst a Scorpion.
When we start tossing in ship jamming bonuses and ECCM then things start to get a bit hairy, but the basis of ECM is still:
Frigate < Cruiser < Battlecruiser < Battleship
Ammar < Minmatar < Gallente < Caldari
