Okay, I admit it. I'm a sad, lonely man who wouldn't be cool if you froze me in carbonite.
But what does ftw mean?

4tw or ftw means 'for the win', ie: cap relays and shield boosters for the win.

For the win?
Hell. I thought it meant feed the whales.

Please don't ever say this. Every time you say this, baby Jesus cries and God kills a kitten and my blood pressure rises a bit.
If I ever say this, I inflict serious pain upon myself to atone for my crimes. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Jesus can finger bang his tiny baby *******, God can push two or three kittens into his rectal cavity and your blood pressure can rise till you got steamed blood shooting out ya ears like a tea kettle.

A simple fact for you: 'FTW' and similar geek-phrases such as '1337' are never uttered by well adjusted human beings with social skills.
Do bear that in mind before considering its usage...

I dunno, For the Win isn't a gaming exclusive phrase. It's been around for decades, used by sporting commentators and whatnot. Sure, FTW is used somewhat differently (and more wantonly) in intercyberwebio-land, but it isn't a massive difference.
I think a far greater transgression than FTW is when I actually hear people say "owned" or say "lol" phonetically out-loud. Thankfully, this has not happened often.

Of course there are people who use 'leet' speak ironically, the problem is irony doesn't always work on the Internet. And using 'leet' speak ironically is soooo 1998 .

What Joe Mozart said.
A good number of us who use such things are using them sardonically.
Sarcasm 4tw.
(Much love, Nikolai!)
Me.
Edit: Have I mentioned making Baby Jesus Cry is an amusing passtime? Edit 2: And, Nikolai, did you not notice that "4tw" is in your sigfile?

Yes, it's so hard to convey irony on the internet
Seriously though, saying FTW isn't a cardinal sin or anything, but it's something that should be avoided.

How about "is/are Nik's Nads"?
Instead of "T2 railguns FTW!", you would say "T2 railguns are Nik's Nads!" -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk
