And given the nature of the game (Plex!) it very possible for the richer players (especially the economy players) to be running multiple accounts to support their activities. This inflated the subscriber figure a bit/a lot depending on how heavy you think this practice happens. The number is the amount of active accounts, it includes trial accounts active as well. Wow, the difference between active subscriptions and accounts online NOW.
how hard was it to figure that out.
Sorry, but WoW or any other MMO has the same thing, NOT everybody plays at the same time, there is things called real life (although for some I think they don't know they have one) and timezone difference.

500K sounds reasonable when you consider EVE is an international game covering all timezones and is played mostly by older gamers with jobs & families. That 500k figure would include have to include alt accounts, so id guess maybe 150-200K individuals at most. If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me. Now don't judge or question. Depends which side of the shop counter you stand on.
Personally - I prefer 600mil for plex when I sell them. If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me. Now don't judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you. Just do everything I tell you to do. (Opiate - Tool) |

I think 500K is an inflated number, but I don't think it matters. There are plenty of people where ever you go (except maybe null sec?). In fact, I think it's harder to find a nice quiet spot to yourself if that's what you want.

Darian The value is what people are willing to pay, if PLEX are going at 600mil it means people are willing to pay the price, if for them it wasn't worth they wouldn't buy and price would go down.
The fact that for you is a ripoff doesn't mean that isn't the market value.
Also, we're going OT.
Also, I don't understand why is so important to know subscriptions and why people even raised WoW as a comparison, the games are completely different, being 2 MMOs doesn't mean they can be compared, the only MMO that remotely compared maybe was DAOC, which, if I recall correctly, might have done EVE's numbers at it's peak, but should be nowhere close now. |

Actually, the proper measure for PLEX "pricing" is not really absolute in-game ISK nor absolute RL-cash, but rather hours (as a work-equivalent, be it ingame or in RL).
For somewhat casual players with decent (not even that high) RL wages, a PLEX might be worth 1-2 hours of RL work but 20-30 hours of in-game work. For them, if thinking about buying PLEX with ISK, even 50 mil ISK might seem too much. Obviously, they'll usually be only selling PLEX for ISK.
For hardcore expert players with very low RL wages, a PLEX might be worth 12-24 hours of RL work but 2-3 hours of in-game work. For them, if thinking about selling PLEX for ISK, even 2 billion ISK might not seem enough. Obviously, they'll usually be only buying PLEX for ISK.
Also, not every player can get extra work hours in RL, but most can easily get more in-game work done, and not all regard in-game work as actual work, which further skews the balance point towards higher ISK values for a PLEX beyond what you'd expect otherwise. |

How exactly does one determine how much PLEX is REALLY worth? It's an item on the open market. Its value is dictated by supply and demand. So if it's selling at 500-600 mil, guess what? That's what it's worth! |

EvE might not have millions subscribers, but what it does ave is nearly fanatic loyal player base. So fanatic in fact it makes headlines all over gaming industry news outlets when players go riots...
Were small but louder then anything else out there. Our market has set new standards how markets in mmo-¦s should work, etc... Heck other copy the model we allready have here...
Not bad for small Icelandic game development company focusing making the best space Sci-Fi mmo.
Last i heard eve has subscriber count that has surpassed population of Iceland. Just becouse there 30-50k people online, its just small part of that. But all those people share the same universe. Its not divided up into separate shards like other mmo-¦s do. When we have big fight, there's chance everyone will hear it.
So don't let it fool you that you only see 40k people online. We still make precedents on how mmo-¦s should work and EvE's players has been making headlines regularly with battles sizes you can only dream about in other games.. |
