After selecting my character the screen goes blacak, like it would any other time but instead of my ship appearing in the station it stays black. The music is the same as the login screen and I can move my cursor around and bring up popups which indicate I am still on the character selection screen. I press esc. but I cannot launch a petition and have created a brand new tempory character but get exactly the same fault.
Has any one else had this and know a work around please?

John - i am experiencing the same problem - no idea whats going on, i just keep checking back every hour or so hoping the problem fixes itself.
Also - i have cleared my cache and that does not help.

I would say the last 2 hours - i did some windows updating and thought that was causing my problems, but i have doubled checked everything and no problems there.
Thats why i came here and saw someone else having the same problem. Guess CCP will get it fixed - but more than likely, will have to wait till the next server maintence

The same thing happened to me this morning. It took a very long time for my character to load, and when he did, I got a blank screen.
So I wandered away for a while, and when I came back, my screen was back to normal, showing me docked.
I didn't stay on for long after that, or undock, as it seems like there is some serious lag going on, and I didn't want to get caught off station in it.

hmmm, so just let the game load on its own - wonderful - guess i will try again and go take a shower then - maybe i will be in game by the time i get done

Having the same problem. Think its a server problem. As I have tried reinstalling EVE, clearing cache. NO JOY!!!!!

Same prob here  few times the station loaded and my ship appeared, then a few seconds later it went to the black screen again. Repeated that a few times then stayed black. I have ben trying to login since just after dt, but no luck as of yet. Thought at first it maybe just my client, so I did a reinstall after uninstalling the old installaton, still same results.

Same here...can log and it take about 10 mins from char selection to ship appearance.

Well, if I wait around 10mins for my character to appear, the lag ingame is so bad as to make it unplayable. I for one would like an eta until the problem is fixed though I guess it will proably after downtime tomrrow

SERVER ARE UNDER ATTACK BY KIDZ WITH SCRIPTS.
and CCP servers are not well protected against such a attacks
We will need to wait for official news from game developers. Something is truly going wrong.
I repeat. It is server side problem. Go and play something else for the time.

well shortly after my last post the game ctd me. However when I got back in it was fine. Hope the rest of you got the same result.

heres a fix for u ppl with black screens that worked for me when i had. first try to delete your cache directory, if that doesnt work try renaming or deleting prefs.ini. in my case it was the prefs.ini file that did something, because after i had deleted it got back in :)

No need to delete the whole cache folder. That's just an old myth  . Just delete the prefs.ini file. In 99% of the cases that fixes these black screen station bugs.

Got the same problem... Already tried to clear the cache etc but still, after choosing character the screen goes black and stays...
However, tried with another charcter, it worked well until I tried to warp another place, my shuttle disappeared and everything was otherwise normal but the shuttle was gone, when logged out and again in, tried this other account suddenly it has the same prob...
help is indeed greatly appreciated ...

Yea, I have this weird black screen of doom too. I've even re-installed and no luck. I got this interesting picture though when i managed to somehow get onto eve once today - Screenshot
You can clearly still see the character select background but also you can see the eve menus. Odd huh.

here too, deleting prefs.ini didnt help (used to before)
that blue girl (cfr screenshot from Xeaon) was interesting to play around with though
Now i only have black screen of death.
Love this game , hate the bugs
