Vargur animation: "Closing the blinds, aye, Sir!" Kronos animation: "First mate, aren't those armor plates a tad loose?" Golem animation: "All hands, grab a hold! Deploy airbrakes!" Paladin animation: "One more joke about body orifices and you're all fired!"
Best description of Bastien animations ever! |

Too base the animation is from the 90s
Oh wait Alone in the dark has more animation |

My Little Pyongyang wrote:Bastion allows you to roll with a 2 slot tank letting you fit more damage and projection mods. You can fit 4 damage mods, a TE and a tank on a Kronos/paladin. You also certainly don't need your rigs for tanking either so you can fit a burst aerator on there for 5 damage mods. The freed up tank gave it more damage and more projection. You can omni tank against explosive with a kronos/paladin with a 2 slot tank. It's strong as hell. Plus it gives a nice projection boost, tachs and pulses with scorch are ridiculous. It was like 100+ pages of people posting stuff like this in F&I, so I believe no point in taking it further. Basically, the guy is a part of community that ran spider tanked Paladin incursion fleets and is now upset that he'll have to do it like everyone else now instead of being special snowflake. |

Granted... it all is probably a big deal from the DEV's perspective... but really, it's better to underplay a new feature like this a little bit "just in case." Expectations meeting reality can be dangerous. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

And now that I'm thinking about it, IIRC it was specifically Rorqual's sequence that was referred to as an example of transformation animation. You know, the ship that has the most pronounced one... |

Well, to be sincere, CCP's animators faced a serious challenge, because of the way EVE ships are designed.
There are two "schools" for futuristic spaceships design: "Shape is the function" and "function makes the shape".
The old school, classical approach, is "shape is the function". Those ships are shaped freely in order to look cool. The actual function of the ships as spacefaring machines is not considered.
Then, in the 60s, was born a second school, whose artists considered that spaceships were machines with a function and so they attempted to represent that function to create ships which, on top of being cool, also made some "engineering" sense. in those ships, the shape is dictated by their function, to a point.
Now, EVE ships were designed on the school that "shape is the function". This is true to the point that they didn't even had a "true size" and still now it's very difficult to convey scale (the CQ is a clear instance of sizeless ships in a sizeless hangar, being displayed at a sizeless distance from the beholder).
So, how do you add a "function" animation -bastion mode- to a function-less design? The answer is simple but underwhelming: you try to make it cool and dismiss the possibility that it makes a functional sense.
Then you hire some zen animators and pretend that a spaceship developing a body orifice is a "going tough" mode and swallow black death until nothing matters. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

Guys, this is CCP, when have they ever released anything even close to finished?
CCP have become a parody of themselves.
Most people I know who play MMO's all like to take the **** out me for playing a game where the developers are unable to release anything even remotely finished.
It used to be a joke, now its just getting pretty sad. |

Well if you can recall when they first announced Bastion CCP Ytterbium stated and I quote "In deployed mode (we call it bastion), their hulls transform (they will have fancy visible animations like the Rorqual does when deploying) "
So that is why allot of people including my self were/are expecting a little more then some parts or panels of the ships moving about. |

CCP promised us full Transformers style bastion animations. They even gave us a crudely drawn picture to show that.
Instead of watching a semi truck turn into Optimus Prime, This is more like if that semi truck dropped its cargo door to reveal Optimus Prime's bare ass.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |
