Legit. All prizes are given and paid out, always. Community supporting. They spend their profits on promo's, and real life events. Not a scam. I'm not sure you even know the meaning of the word scam... Well they did pull a bait-and-switch scam on me, and called it 'valid play' afterwards...

Wait wait wait, let me get this straight. So you deposited 16b, used that money to play and I assume you lost it all eventually. And then, because they changed the prizes you demand to get back the money that you already spent and possibly won prizes with?

you know what the difference is? the people who he gives free 'credit' to will likely buy more GTC out of gratitude, etc., thinking Somer is so awesome. he can squeeze dollars out of them. he can't do that with the other guy though, who was only in it for the Guardian-Vexor and has no intention of buying GTC through Somer's affiliate link. |

The funniest part of this whole boondoggle is that Blink/CCP did this to themselves. It's not exactly news that Blink has been leveraging this loophole for a while now. You can find posts pointing out this obvious fact going back years. But it never drew the community's attention or outrage the way recent events have.
It was simply CCP and Blink's greed, hubris, or outright obliviousness that led to the current state of affairs. Free iScorps, tournament ships, public endorsements by blue posters... I mean, seriously, which of the geniuses involved DIDN'T realize that was going to cause a public outcry?
I certainly know that if I'd been running a profitable grey-area RMT operation for two years under the radar of any obvious CCP attention, I would be returning those iScorps immediately and turning down ANY official "gifts" or "endorsements" from CCP faster than you could bat an eye. If it hadn't been for the blatantly obvious bias and cronyism on display by CCP with these recent gifts, Blink would likely have remained out of any serious public scrutiny for many years to come.
When you are doing something at least a little bit shady, at least have the decency to TRY and keep it in the shadows. People are very good at looking the other way but they do tend to take offense when you start flaunting it in their face.
Anyway... thinking of that makes me giggle every time.

Here's the timeline of events: 2013.09.26 00:28 The Gold Magnate lottery was announced. The lottery required you to play Blinks to earn tickets. There was no other way to participate. it's why i stayed subbed instead of quitting when the guardian-vexor/monocle/SIW debacle occurred. once people looked at the RMT more deeply and the first couple dudes started exploiting the same loophole to prove a point, i knew the results would be hilarious, one way or another. it was indeed hubris that caused this, and now it's funny to watch the backlash. if nothing is learned from this and things aren't corrected, i suspect many may chose to cancel subscriptions, but for now the destruction derby is worth the price of admission. |

I'm sure they didn't mean to; they probably were accidentaly caught up in a cleaning spree. But indeed, I did post a few more times in the SOMER Blink thread, but bringing up the simple fact that a previous post got deleted was enough to get *that* post deleted for "discussing moderation". So I decided just not to mention the deleted posts at all.

A real lottery would be bound by law to refund each and every ticket purchased the moment the prize changed. (for anyone that was unhappy with the change in prize and requested said refund). |

As others have pointed out, real lotteries would be bound by laws and regulations. Also note that in many jurisdictions real lotteries which offer a grand prize when purchasing/doing something will have small print which will say "no purchase necessary" while offering a way to participate in another way (still in the small print, of course). That would allow them to say "but you didn't have to play to win". SOMER does not get to make that excuse.
