just an idea i had while looking at my old ships and wondering about them...
it would be nice to know, when the ship was built and of course by whom. as well as maybe bringing in a Serie number.
how does the community feel about this?

Edited by: BoinKlasik on 06/02/2006 20:51:54 I think there was an thing on the development page about allowing people to build custom ships....hence implying that such things would exist.
edit: ok...apparently all the in development/testing pages no longer hold content on them but i swear it was an option at some point (like you could research the PG on a ship and increase it etc etc.)

Would be nice if I could have the rare ship that I built actually be traceable back to me by serial number alone. Would provide a new profession...Record keeping ^.^ Caldari Navy Surplus yarrbqwtfpwn4g3! ~kieron Imaran > Kieron - Immy Jorauk > Imaran > Kieron -Jo

Well, the ships already have unique ID, as you can see when you get messages about expired insurance. I'd be happy just to get insurance mails that actually told me which ship they were talking about tbh.

Star Wars: Galaxies has a system like that. Every item has a unique serial number and a made by X writen on it. Due to it, they have severe overcrowded database issues. They limit your inventory to a set number to keep the numbers down, which really sucked.
They've also continued to increase their plans of driving away players in order to reduce database overflow.
Its a nice idea in theory, however in reality, its more of a problem then it would be worth.

I got an "Insurance Expired" message last night on a ship that was destroyed close to 3 months ago (I insured it, and then lost it within the week). I was confused at first, because it said it was for a megathron, and I had one megathron in my hangar but it was already insured. I tracked back the refID numbers and sure enough I found 3 evemails with that ship ID, one saying it was insured, one saying the insurance was paid and one saying that the insurance had expired.
So... I guess if you could blow up a ship multiple times you could collect on the insurance multiple times?

would be fun but i dunno how many need to know my Mark II is the "Mystery Machine"
still wouldnt be hard feature to add, nore would it add any real database load as the ship name is allready sent(client could just impose it on the ship locally).
