Cause our ships have crews, pretty large ones too, only the small frigates run on just you in your pod. For all other ships your pod has reduced the number of crew required and has improved control but you still have crews ( up to 3000 in battleships ) ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

in a combat situation, fragile windows are the last thing you'd want on your ship

Mine do. A man needs some human interaction after a hard day in the pod.
Originally by: Xzaron D'aar up to 3000 ppl?
More if you include the exotic dancers.
Originally by: Xzaron D'aar why don't they want a pod when the ship explodes?
Of course the poor luvs do. What do you think that scratching sound is just before your ship goes bang. Luckily Jove pod technology can withstand the frantic attempts of the crew to join you in the pod.

So how do you pay them again?
My ship is run by the exotic dancers, i pay them in pleasure. They love it. Reason why they dont have pods is because if my ship blows up i need all the evidence destroyed so the Mrs don't find out.

Ya know the whole idea of RP is to have ships the way you want them nto stick to some fiction made at the start of the game, and that has already been "altered" to fit better as the game progresses.
I have crew, I also dont sit in a pod. Hell thats so yesterday, you guys never seen the quick release emergency systems! Grab a catologue from the next passing Jove and upgrade already.

Without a solid framework there is no rp, instead there's just a load of fools talking gibberish. Good prime fiction is a vital part of rp. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I agree and some of the fiction is good (if you ignore the 3 paragraph long chronicles). There is more than enough back story to RP this game without the people coming on here and stead fastly sticking to that same back story.

You do, ectoplasm it is, and you got a huge cord sticking out the back of your neck hooking you up to the ships computer. But outside that pod peeps are running around doing stuff, and when you feel like it you can get out of the pod. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

crews probally do have escape pods but they dont show up as they arent that big. and more like the ones in startrek or like the Soyez capsule on the ISS. Stations and Stargates also have windows as they require people to run and maintain.

How do you know they're windows? If they are, then the amount of light streaming out would probably fry whoever was unfortunate enough to be in that room.
That's what's always bugged me about sci-fi ships, their windows have light that seems way too bright.

Windows aren't necessarily weaker than the rest of the ship. My house has windows made of Lexan polycarbonate, even the very thin panes we have (probably something like 1/4 inch) are built to withstand a tree trunk thrown into them at 150mph by a hurricane. As they get thicker, they get exponentially stronger, if I recall correctly. 2-3 inch thick Lexan panes would be incredibly strong, yet still be very light.
As for useful...well windows in your house aren't particularly useful, they just make you feel better. You'd appreciate windows even more because in your house, you can walk outside. In the spaceship, all you can do is look out the window. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Now if they can create huge bio dome glass-stuff that can resist countless exposions and blasts externally, think a tiny port-hole on a ship should be capable.
