Who cares, if you got to snipe you suck! Autocannons all the way! But anyways, Minmatar is balanced with everyone else. Sure Minmatar can use some tweaks here and there but what racial class doesn't? Minmatar isn't a class where you can just jump in and be good. It's a hybrid racial class ship line. No other race can do that. It's special you see?
Sure some ships might PvE better than Minmatar. Who really cares... You can train for those ships. You don't need to reroll your character. Everyone should try to train for 2 ship lines anyways. It's better to focus on one thing but going 2 wont be as bad.
Minmatar has a great number of good things that makes me choose Minmatar over everything else.
-Projectiles : Best gunnery in the game. Autocannons have light fittings and great tracking. The small autocannon USE NO CAP TO SHOOT! Nos boats anyone? Arty's well people are whinning about there DPS ect whatever. I don't snipe but If I needed to instant pop something smaller. Guess what, I'm not choosing railguns.
-Ammo : Have any of you actually looked at the ammo? I mean do you all just care about the damage mod on a gun and nothing else? We have a GREAT GREAT line of ammo with many diffrent combos. This is why Autocannons are way better than blasterboats. Because we don't have the damage mod they might have but guess what? We are ripping your weakness's more than any OTHER gun in game
-Range : Ahh yes range! Projectiles have GREAT range with our Falloff enhancements/bonuses. Another reason why Autocannons smack a number of other gunnerys. We don't need to get close close like 3km with good ammo to rip you apart. We can stay 6-12km away with great ammo and great damage without having to get extreamly close. We want to be cooler than pulses :P
-Tanking : Sure we can't be like some Uber loser in a Raven shield tanking. Sure we can't be like some uber loser in a Apocalypse tanking. But we can have both worlds if we want to and do them decently (Go Invuln Shields!).
-Speed : Need I say more?
what else what else. Oh you're stupid if you think Minmatar sucks. Whine arty's whine blahblahblah. Try flying a Megathron.

Yep you start putting 2 and 2 together you get something like
Nice Falloff + Nice Ammo + Nice Tracking + Nice Fitting + Nice Speed + Decent Tanking = Minmatar Nice Range + Nice Shield Ammo? + Nice Tracking + Decent Fitting + Nice Tanking = Amarr? Nice Range + Horriable Ammo + No Tracking + Decent Fitting + Nice Super Uber Speed Tanking + Easy Mode = Caldari? Horriable Blaster Range + Ok Tracking + Horriable Fitting + Decent Tanking + Nice Drones = Gallante?

I am only at the friagte and cruiser stage of Eve, but the Rifter is the basic equal of the Merlin, and the Rupture is the bomb-diggity of cruisers. I am not seeing the issue at those two ship classes for Minmatar folks.

Agree with the praises of most of the above, and add:
Scimitar:
Excellent support ship, able to run 4 Med T2 shield tranfers non stop (around 170hp/s, more than a Gist X Type), and fit an extender (over 4k shields with decent base resists) and uber speedy to boot.
Ok so the caldari basilisk can probably do the same, plus energy transfer, but it doesn't have the high natural EM resist, and is much slower.

but it probably depends of your style also...
I switched from gallente to minmatar and I'm having much much more fun .It was my curiosity for the daredevil and vigilante that made me do it. It was a great move .
I hated blasters and railguns, I love Artillery and autocannons.. I love speed also. hell I even love people saying minmatar ships are bad and doing good with them
I think it won't cost you too much SP to switch to another race if you like it better, after all

Though not attack ships these are both great.
Cheetah (considered best covert ops in the game) Prowler (considered best blockade runner in the game)

calling minnie dread the best is a joke lol. Maybe if it was all guns then I'd possibly consider jumping in and saying it's co-equal to the revelation or moros. but the split missiles\guns deal makes for a huge arse training run compared to other dreads.
I would say it's very debatable as to who has best frigate. Rifter is not consensus choice by any measure.
On the cruiser level, yeah, the rupture is extremely versatile, but again, what if your angle and understanding of power in the game gravitates towards an EW approach? Then power lies with Caldari.
Minnie BS's are crap compared to other races. Not a whine. It's just where we are with the swinging pendulum in this game in terms of balance and how projectiles fair. Stackability of damage mods hurt minnie BS's hard.
AF-wise the gheylette AF's are better than the minnie ones.
Minnie hacs are nice. The vaga is awesome. But it's far far from being "the best ship in the game" as someone stated.
With interceptors the claw\stilleto are at least tied for the best. Although I think inties in general are one of the more balanced ship types in eve across all races. Well, except for the amar inties that blow.

if you're not already training missiles and projectiles for minmatar you're probably flying it wrong, or at least not using them to their maximum potential. You need 25 days for large turret 5 and only 20 days for torps 5 in order to get both capital weapons.

On the sidebar of dreads, I would have thought the Revelation would be a better anti-POS platform, simply because it only needs to be kept supplied with more Clatherates, rather than requiring the volume of ammo and torps the Naga does. Autocannon eat ammo, regardless of their size.

- Vagabonds going 2.5km/s scared me till I found out about Energy Neutralizing drones - Rupture is one of the better cruisers imo - Munnin does ebil damage and rocks for smaller gangs - Stilletto is nice I heard...

The problem with minmatar ships compared to others are theyr "versatile specialization" i mean: IC¦s: look at claw and stiletto claw is great dmg inty and its fricking fast BUT its not versatile in different situations (example Taranis) coz it has 2 meds. stiletto is best inty for pure tackling purpose but its kinda slow and it lacks firepower seriously. u cant fly these ships alone with their full potential.
ok AF¦s: Wolf is good arty platform and makes some serious dmg but has same problem keeping target still if it wants to escape (again 1 med slot "missing") Jaguar is "fastest" AF but CCP ruined its tackling ability by making it shield tank and giving it one med slot too few and its VERY annoying to fit.
Cruisers: rupture, stabber, scythe all good ships but only one that is uber is scythe ... for mining of course
T2 Cruisers: Vagabond fast as hell but has its problems also in fitting. sleipnir etc i dont have so much experience that i could say anything about them just what theur stats say.
BS: typhoon...... the leasr respected tier 1 BS and it has reasons drone skills play big part and u must be jack of all trades to fly it efficiently and it has crappy bonus. Tempest: onje of the most feared battleships in Fleetbattles coz its burst dmg takes hell of a lot skills to fly properly suprisely has no troubles in fittings (u can gimp it all u want) and its one of the most versatile BS¦s there is.
Bigger than that: im not flying that big ships so i dont say anything about them.
So what minmatar ships are missing is good solo ship that is quite fast have enough med slots and u dont have to train all the skills there are in combar side of eve.

wolf can be good with right setup and skills rupture with nice firepower and tank claw(the fastest ceptor) stiletto(the ultimate tackler; 2 scramblers, mwd and web + good for solo frigs; ab, scrambler, webber and a jammer) stabber(fastest cruiser) vagabond(fkn awesome solo ship and just pwns everything) tempest(much damage, decent tank)

Edited by: Wrayeth on 07/02/2006 22:19:03 I really enjoy my tempests. I like my raven more, but not by much, and it was a tough decision which race to train battleship 5 for. In the end, I decided to go for Caldari, since I'm also training for capital ships and the Minmatari carriers' bonus...well...sucks. This bothered me a bit, since the tempest actually gets more of a bonus from battleship 5 than the raven (two bonuses that increase DPS, as opposed to one), but still...
In any case, I only really have experience with two Matari ships, and both kick ass - the rupture outputs some MEAN damage, and the tempest is probably the most flexible ship in EVE in terms of setup - you never know how a given tempest will be set up, which makes them hard to counter.
There are a few issues with Minmatar atm, such as artillery clip sizes, and the biggest autocannon in each class not inflicting enough damage above the next one down to justify the tracking loss (not to mention the clip sizes on these need increasing, as well). -Wrayeth

Edited by: 6Bagheera9 on 07/02/2006 23:08:28 Mimatar ship's greatest strength is their flexibility. If you know what you're doing and have a broad skill base, its like playing a game of poker with a whole deck of cards up each sleave(projectile ammo anyone ). A good example of this is my arty/missile cyclone. At range heavy EMP missles kill the shields and 720mm howies loaded with fusion M eat up the armor. Up close I have the option of breaking out my nos&webb and opening up with my ACs. Being faster than most cruisers doesn't hurt either. And this is just one fitting for one ship. Most minmatar ships can be configured to fit several roles effectively. This means that your typical Matari ship is in truth several good ships rolled into one. All that being said, I admit that howies need some tweaking (only a little really) and a few of our ships are downright ugly as sin.
P.S. Alright maybe more than a few...

I've seen a Vagabond shield tank a blasterthron, a Moa and an Ishkur so hard that the mega had to be saved from death through the sacrifice of the cruiser and assault frig. Seriously, I gave up my Moa so that the freaking battleship could escape destruction.
The result of our combined result? I think we got the Vagabond down to about 85% shields.
I've seen 'Phoons out-armour tank a Dominix and rip it to shreds in an embarressingly short space of time.
There's also the small matter of Minmatar ships being able to unload a severe amount of nasty firepower, in the right circumstances. Their main philosophy is basically "lots and lots of big guns, mounted on something very fast. ALL AHEAD FULL AND THE TORPEDOES BE DAMNED!!!"
Minmatar ships can be very, very good, but they really do require a lot of skill points to get them to work properly - almost precisely the opposite of the Caldari, in fact. they're the most long-burning race of a long-burning game, but the only appropriate response upon seeing what a properly flown Minmatar ship can do is "ZOMG!"
Stick with it dude. Some day you'll finish training a skill sequence, and suddenly find yourself ripping other ships to shreds. Fast.

Minmatar ships are great, keep the faith. As your skill points increase in areas like gunnery, electronics, engineering and navigation, fitting options become a lot better as does already good speed.
Except for the Vagabond which is by far the worst ship ever, nobody should ever buy one of these and sell the ones they do own before they rust.
