Even though I know that the first rule of reading forums is that you should just ignore the whining and *****ing because everyone thinks their character/class/race/ship is the one is/has been/will be nerfed- you guys are really starting to bum me out.
This particular forum is loaded with great, helpful posts about how to outfit your ship for a variety of purposes. Every post that is, except for posts about minmatar ships. No, those posts always seem to degenerate into discussions of why that particular ship is gimped, why you can never really have a good fitting on that ship and why almost every other race's ship of the same class is better. You get quotes like, "well, i just sorta get by by pretending it's a crappy raven/geddon/enyo/etc."
And in practice, it seems like they're right! I've got about 3m SP and am currently living in 0.0 space and i've got non-Minmatar friends with half the SPs ratting more successfully and efficiently than me in Cruisers/Battle Cruisers ("don't even waste your time with the Cyclone, it's not much better than the Rupture!") and certainly Battleships.
I don't have the time and inclination to re-roll another character- and I really really want to like my Minmatar (I dig their backstory). Can someone please renew my faith? Are there ANY good (not just good, GREAT) Minmatar ships or are my Gallente and Caldari friends going to keep kicking sand in my face and laughing at me until I reroll?
please help a Minmatar in Crisis!

I believe the minmatar shuttle is pretty good. Got the least sellotape of any minmatar ship, atleast. You wasted 4 seconds reading this post and you'll never get those back. |

I love them all.
The Rupture is a very good cruiser, and my current ship of choice.

The Cyclone had become one badass ship post RMR, it ranks with the top BC no problem. Then there is the tempest, rifter all exelent pvp/pve ships.
So really dont see the prob with minmatar ships.

Tempest, Stabber and Vagabond are very nice ships.
The stiletto is without a doubt the best tackling inty in the game. ----------

Pfft, Amarrian propaganda no less.
Minmatar ships can be considerably effective, more so than other races sometimes depending upon your situation.
There is an unforunate issue that you tend to need more skills to make the most of a minmatar ship, but once you are there you can pack some considerable firepower that few if any can match in the appropriate situations. The main key point of matari weapons is their variable damage types to help bypass and/or make them more difficult to tank against.
Autocannons are your bread and butter for damage output, supported by either missile or drone skills (or both). Artillery is has poor tracking making it ineffective at anything closure than medium range normally.

Edited by: Testy Mctest on 07/02/2006 14:21:16 We have our fair share of uber ships.
Top Ships
Claw = One of the best Inties (Crow, Claw, Taranis all great) Rifter = Arguably best T1 frigate Rupture = Best T1 cruiser hands down Cyclone = Best Battlecruiser hands down Vagabond = Best HAC, arguably best ship in the game
Still Good Ships
Tempest = Still useful, still very useful in fleets Wolf = Good AF*, will be top if/when autocannons get a buff
New ships that look good
Sleipnir = T2 of the best BC around? Yes please Both Recon Ships = 60% web range is uber Nidhoggur = Arguably best carrier after the Gallente one.
So, we have our fair share of top stuff now, yep.
*Edit=The Wolf wasnt a HAC last time I checked :P

Well so far im really disappointed in the minie AF.Truely the also-rans of all the AF's. and the thorax is a better cruiser then the rupture anyday.
Havn't tryed a BS yet,but temptest stats wise seems to be a good sniper.Claw also seems pretty bad ass.And vagabond seems to be the best solo cruiser/inty :P .
But yea normaly better ships in the other races thats why im specing top fly gall frigs next. And yea i only fly minie ships for right now.

Edited by: Sarmaul on 07/02/2006 14:25:17 omgrant warning
------------------------------------------
Frigates
Rifter: Very versatile combat ship and tackler - only rocket kessies have a chance to take one down
Wolf: Quite evil in a full-gank artillery setup, it can also surprise you with a mwd and autocannons.
Jaguar: It's a rifter with better resists. A very nice tackler, and will last a bit longer than a t1 frig or interceptor
Claw: One of the best combat interceptors (and indeed combat frigates) at this time.
Stiletto: Best tackler (4 mids!) - can even hold down a Burn Eden raven
Cheetah: The fastest covert ops, if you need a ship to get warp-in points with, look no further.
Cruisers
Stabber: it goes really really really fast
Rupture: Can kill any t1 cruiser that doesn't have ECM fitted
Vagabond: The best hit and run ship in EVE.
Rapier: 40k web range, 65k with faction webs, can warp while cloaked. Nuff said.
Huginn: Like the rapier, but can't warp while cloaked. It can however, actually do useful damage.
Prowler: Best blockade runner transport ship - it goes bloody fast and it's natural resists means it's shield is pre-hardened.
Battlecruisers
Cyclone: Now has one hell of a shield tank since RMR - can kill most close-range HACs with ease.
Sleipnir: The king of PVE. 7 turrets, massive tank, multiple damage bonuses.
Battleships
Tempest: Can still 1-volley most things smaller than a BC with artillery, devestating in fleets, excellent in small gangs, can even shield tank and load up on gyros/tracking enhancers if tackling support is provided.
Nalgfar
The most effective dread vs a POS, which is what they should be shooting anyway.
Things that need looking at:
Typhoon: missile bonus to replace optimal range bonus Jaguar: missing a slot (please make it a mid-slot) Artillery: large artillery damage needs increasing slightly, low-tier artillery are completely useless Autocannons: High-tier autocannons are not worth fitting in PVP as the next size down does the same damage over time for lower fitting and better tracking (but higher ammo use). Bit more damage would be nice too.
Minmatar ships are fast, hard hitting hit and run machines. Which is exactly why they perform so badly at PVE (besides the Sleipnir). Finally, whoever told you the cyclone isn't much better than a rupture is a nub.

Tell that to the rax i 1v1ed last week. I had ****ty guns on too :(
I fly pretty much 95% minmatar ships. They are versitile enough that people are never quite sure what is going to happen when they aggress. Just try playing around with different types of tanking, with nos, launchers, autocannons and ecm. Minnie are good with all of the above. Stay away from howitzers tho, unless you have friends with you.

Edited by: d''hofren on 07/02/2006 14:30:30 Rifter - One of the best combat Frigs in the game, fast decent midslots. decent low slots. Vigil - 75% of an inty for less than 1/4 of a mil isk. Stabber - People use it as a Heavy Interceptor. Rupture - Generally thought to be the best cruiser in the game at the moment. Claw inty - Thought to be one of the better Inties. Wolf - Autocannons, + Nos or two volley frig popper with arty. Cyclone - Autocannons, Medium Nos, 2 x invuln fields, large shield boost. Scarey ship. Vaga - Thought to be the best solo pvp Hac. Tempest - Still the mainstay of fleet pvp.
My suggestion?
Train frig lvl5, then work on assault frigs, tech II small guns and inties. Let your peers run headlong towards the battleships and laugh at them while you hunt faction cruiser and 1mil BS spawns in a ship that costs 20mil if you loose it.

Hi, I have 4 mil sp and 1 mil into learning. I use a Cyclone to hunt rats in 0.0, i can kill and tank dual 1 mil serpentis bs spawns with this setup:
High -> 4*220mm 3*med nos Med -> med shield blossterII, boost amp, invu field, large shield extender, AB/web Low -> 2*pdu 1*tracking enhancer 1*gyroII
It works very good, the tank is insane, only drawback is the ammo use. I tested this setup against a ferox and i could break the ferox tank with my cap and shields staying high.

Edited by: Maya Rkell on 07/02/2006 14:44:00 Well, while I think (this thinking being statistically based...) their BS and AF stink, I like the ceptors and the HAC's, while the cruisers arn't bad (although I prefer other races, personally).
Main thing to remember is this: It's far easier to use a Minmatar ship badly than it is a ship of any other race. That dosn't make the SHIPS bad.

Edited by: Naughty Boy on 07/02/2006 14:43:54 Minmatar have many good or very good ships, though they generally require lots of SP (lot of skills needed, ship skills need to be trained to a high level). There are some issues with artillery (good ships are mostly autocannon ships or even artillery ships used with AC). Autocannon setups generally do well, especially with lots of nosferatus in the "spare" missile slots.
Muninn and typhoon need some fitting help (powergrid mostly, though slot layout is weird), top tier artilleries and top tier autocannons need some more clip, rest is roughly fine (low end artillery is of very limited usefulness, generally the weak gun of the class).
Wolf and Jag have their shortcomings, especially jaguar.
In pve though, both battleships are often considered weaker than raven/dom/apoc (high em resist is nice, but sustained tanking is hard to manage, AC's literally eat ammo and the low dps of artillery is a problem). Rupture, cyclone and rifter are now way better pve ships (and pvp ships) than they used to be pre-RMR (though rifter already was an awesome pvp ship).
Minmatar is worth training for, but for PVE it might be worth considering other battleships.
Sincerly Yours, The Naughty Boy.

I preferred to use missiles in the beginning until I trained my tracking skills up. Since Mini guns have a worse tracking then other species we tend to get less well aimed and excellent hits. After looking a bit longer at the ship setup and the skills needed to train drones, guns and missiles, I now think I should have gone earlier to NOS instead of missiles. The missiles hardpoints on some ships just seem to be meant to be NOS hardpoints if you go PvP.
IMHO the merlin was the best t1 frig out there until the rifter got some loveing in RMR. Like the description says, best tackler out there.

Minmatar ships, perhaps more than any other race in the game, force you to become a good, reasonably well rounded pilot. This takes awhile, but it's ultimately a good thing. Like most of Minmatar stuff, it ends up being an ideological 180 from the Amarr, whose ships seem to encourage people to ultra-specialize.
Take a Minmatar pilot after a year or two and you can comfortly put him in virtually anything his Spaceship Command levels can unlock. Take the Amarr pilot after same time and watch him try to fire a missile backward.

Who cares about the worse tracking. We can choose our damage type. That more than makes up for it by far.
Have an Amarr BS pilot in our corp who had to go kill an uber tanked Machariel. Uber Tanked to Therm and EM. It took him 2 hours to realise that his guns just we're not going to kill it. So, asks for reinforcements, and a Munin pilot turns up.
The Machariel goes boom just over 5 minutes later.

muninn needs more pg... artie needs more dps, size reduction of the ammo would also be nice....

Edited by: Agnar Koladrov on 07/02/2006 16:19:30 I see that most people here only name a few Minmatar ships as "best", those are ONLY the ones with 2 weapon bonusses, or tech2 wich mostly have more then 1 weapon boni (not counting Cyclone, damn nice ship now).
But besides 2 bonni to weapons ships, most Minmatar ships are really okay. Problem lies with artillery weapons, especially the tier 1 (lowest), like Naughty Boy said.
Other then that there is nothing wrong with Minmatar ships.

Minmatar ships are pure sex..
Rifter is a beauty that you can fit out very flexibly!
Wolf is damn sexy and makes npcing a dream against sansha's and packs a mean punch!
Thrasher is also a hazard to fly but none the less 8 barrels of flaming death to ceptors when piloted right!
Vagabong unless flown by a stoner is a damn scary ship to face whatever you are in..
Vigil has the locking range of a cruiser and a decent ew grid set up and can hit 4km/sec... all for 100k isk
rupture seems to have lots of priase these days and the cyclone is rock hard ;)
Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.
