The Corax is, beyond a doubt, the worst destroyer right now.
The corax has:
- The worst base powergrid of all destroyers, even the algos has way more and it just needs a tank and some drones to work properly
- The worst base speed and agility of all destroyers
- The worst dps potential of all destroyers
- The second highest signarute radius of all destroyers
- Shares lowest scan resolution with cormorant
You get it. What things could possibly make you want to fly the corax?
- Missile application bonus, for frigate sized weapons that already apply damage very well *
- The longest targeting range of all destroyers
- Highest base shield amount
- Highest amount of mid slots
- Awesome ship model
*I personally like this bonus alot because it allows you to use rage rockets where the talwar cannot, but it doesn't make up for the general underperformance of the ship.
Right now the only people I see using the corax are 10 day old noobs that mission in them and the occasional caldari miltia newbie. I've personally tried flying both the talwar(solo and small gang) and the corax(just solo cause noone wanted to team up with a corax) and the combination of an extreme speed advantage, mwd sig bonus and higher base powergrid places the talwar in a completely different league as a pvp ship. The fact that the corax has heavy bonuses to the current most OP weapon system - light missiles - and still can't perform well should give a telling of how bad and broken it is.
The nice base tank, application bonus and plenty of mid slots gives the image that the corax was intented to be a close range anti frig rocket brawler, since it lacks the speed to kite with light missiles. However, you cannot even make the most simple rocket/mse/ab fit work without some kind of powergrid bonus. Anyhow it's pretty hard to keep frigates around with your cruiser like mobility and scan resolution.

no the nice base tank is there so you nano it and kite everything ;p destroyers are not meant to tank well. and as i understand low powergrid is a caldari thing. i have seen and been killed by good corax fits. they do exist and no joke a kite corax is pretty nasty. |

Since everything subcap is fit to kite these days and the Corax is one of the slowest boats to ever boat slowly, I'm not so sure. |

I have to agree with this, there's next to nothing a corax can do that a talwar can't do better, once you get past the size difference you realize your flying a kestrel with all it's downsides amplified.

Yeah... what can a Corax kite and kill in any sort of reasonable time? Barges?
+1 I'd really like to see it get some love, a pain to fit and pretty underwhelming whatever you use it for.

I agree that the ship has potential, but it still needs help.

Yeah, I don't understand why CCP would make it so that the talwar has 3 more base PG and the corax got 10 extra CPU when they've pretty much got the same slot layout.
Every time I fit a corax I get annoyed that the slot layout isn't that of the talwar's, maybe that's mostly since it's slower than most cruisers and doesn't have the 3rd low for any speed mods. |
