I need a lay out of the skills needed to pilot a Raven well in PVP and PVE. Just stick to skills need for a Raven please. I know the Frig 4, Cruiser 4 and BS 2 skills needed. Like for example all the missile and shield skills a good Raven pilot would need.I want to make the jump over to Caldari ships (mainly the Raven) in the next month or so. I want to finish up some other skills first but all suggestions from good Caldari pilots would help out a lot. thanks!

Cal BS to L4 ATLEAST!!! Shields, well all the stuff that boosts ur shield amount and shieldtank, so tac shield manipulation will be one, and the shield compensation skills, hell, with those skills alone and 3 invulni fields on i don't even have to switch those on most of the time hehe. Missiles, i'd suggest working on Cruise and the skills that boost missile attributes in general, if ur only gonna fly the Raven as a missileboat then forget about rocket, light and heavy, Torp might be a good skill too, allthough on L3 missions ur prolly better off with Cruise. Weapon and advanced weapon upgrades are also an obvious choice. Actually, as u know the raven will be firing cruises and will shieldtank, finding out which skills u need shouldn't be that hard on your own.

Edited by: Tecro Masheta on 09/02/2006 21:38:19 For starters you'll need to get all to 20 % you can. Energy Systems Management : 20 % more CAP Energy Systems Operation : 20 % faster recharge Shield Management : 20 % more HP Shield Operation : 20 % faster recharge Mechanic : 20 % more Hull HP Hull Upgrades : 20 % more Armor Signature Analysis : 20 % faster targeting speed Long Range Targeting : 20 % more targeting range Energy Emission Systems : at lvl 3 for heavy NOS Energy Pulse Weapons: Smartbombs d'uh Shield Compensation : (only) 8 % less CAP usage for the shield boosters (at lvl 4 that is), haven't trained it Tactical Shield Manipulation : at lvl 5 your armor won't take any damage until the shield is fully down, but lvl 4 is good enough. The new damage type skills for passive tanking, but I guess you already know that since the armor skills are the same. Hope this helps a little. Tecro Edit: heavy NOS is lvl 3

Edited by: Arakasai on 09/02/2006 22:05:27 "Well" is such an ambiguous term. The following is what I recommend to fellow Caldari when they ask me what the minimum they need is to be in a Raven and have decent chance of survival :)PVE Requirements (I know nadda about PVP) Drones Skill invested here reflects your ability to deal with frigates and additional damage against Battleships for defeating their tank. Drones IV Scout Drone I Additional skill points spent here will help increase your kill rate and improve your ability to clear missions faster.Electronics Skill points spent here are to fit advanced technology that is useful for the Raven. Outside of Electronics, everything else is a nice to have and will improve your utility. Electronics V Long Range Targetting III Signature Analysis III Targetting III The Raven is a distance fighter, your missiles will have a range that far exceeds your targetting. Increasing your Long Range Targetting and your Signature Analysis enables you to take out frigates faster from longer range. Useful area to spend additional skill points but not a priority area.Engineering This area is the bread and butter of a Raven. You should have a minimum of 1 million skill points in this area to be a good Raven pilot. Additional skill points spent here are very useful. Energy Emission Systems III (For Heavy Nos) Energy Grid Upgrades IV (PDU II) Energy Management IV Energy System Operation IV Engineering V Shield Compensation IV Shield Management IV Shield Operation IV (V when you can for XL Shield Booster II) Shield Upgrades IV (If you want to use: Shield Extender II) Tactical Shield Compensation IV (Active Hardener II)Gunnery This is not an area I have spent much skill points. I can use Medium Railguns and that is about it. And not well at that. Additional Points spent here are useful but quite a lot are needed to accomplish anything. Save this for later in life. N/AMechanic This area is a nice to have currently my mech skills are all at II. You do not need them, you are a shield tank. However they are useful, I classify this a medium priority skill point area. Hull Upgrades II Mechanic II Repair Systems III (For larger repair mods)Missile Launcher This area takes focused advanced. This is where a Raven pilot gets the best bang for his buck. The goal is advanced Cruise Missiles. The more skill points you sink into here the better you will be. Cruise Missile II Guided Missile Precision III Heavy Missiles III Missile Bombardment III Missile Launcher Operation V Missile Projection III Rapid Launch III Standard Missiles III Target Navigation Predication III Torpedoes II Warhead Upgrades II Spend Skill Points here as a priority. Get Cruise Missle to V and get Advanced Cruise Missiles Specialization so you can use Tech II Cruise Missiles. Then increase the skills that add to your ability to do damage and decrease your penalty against smaller ships.Navigation Get them all up to IV, the timesink in this game is speed bound. Are they critical? No, but they are your best utility class in the game. Get them all to IV and work on getting them to V where possible.Science Cybernetics II Science IIISpaceship Command You mentioned the precursor requirements and I am almost out of characters so. Required skills Caldari Battleship III Improve your Battleship skill ...

IMHO not much point in training to use nossies on a raven. You won't be able to fit em once you start putting t2 launchers on it (no cpu).

You could add the odd PDU II and if you go for cruise launchers, as many do, this wont be true. Given all the complaints from pilots of ships below BS class about how the heavy nos is overpowered; one has got to think about having at least one. Sev I saw a squirrel today jumping from one tree to another, the branch it landed on snapped. So the squirrel was on this falling branch, clambering like mad, thinking it was doing something about it.'

Some of my Raven builds use NOS some do not. However, it is a pretty powerful option so it is useful having it.

As with most ships you can't fly it when you can undock, you can fly it when you have it's primary skills to level 4. Cladari BS 4 is a big deal, don't over look it even if it does add a week to your training time. When decided which launcher to go with remember the Raven's bonsues and what you want to do. Torps are slower but hit battleships really hard. The Raven gets a bonus to missile speed so a torp can go faster than 2KM/s with skills and have a range of over 60KM. Thats a blaster that can hit at range. Assuming you can tank thier dmg till your missiles do thiers. I can, and will often fit 6 Cruise II launchers with Tech II mods and 2 heavy nos. Heavy nos are death to Frigs. So, I'd say you focus on the shild boosting skills, and have Torp/curise/Caldari BS all to level 4 and your supporting skills to level 3 with the goal of getting them up right away before you consider yourself able to fly a Raven. Sure lots of people can undock in them, I can undock in a megathron and apoc too, but my Raven will pwn you where as the other two are simply ships to hold my pod untill you kill it. Just my two cents. _ ____ _______ _________________________________________________________

I suggest fitting at least 1 assult launcher and taking strd missys skill up... fit defenders for bs battles at long range, (why take cruise damage unless you have to), and switch to a damage type if frigs are in close. i'd fit a webber rather than a nos for frigs as if they are dead still you can hit them with anything and a nos takes a hi-slot.

Thats a horrible idea. Defenders suck at what they do, and it takes up a precious missle launcher slot.

Yeah. The defender missile is basically giving up one missile launcher to take away one of theirs. Kind of a "meh..." thing if your main source of damage is missiles. I can kind of understand doing it on a rail ship though, sometimes (maybe).

Dont fit an assault launcher on a raven, if you do that you are down to 5 launchers for dmg, you dont need defenders because you will probably have a solid sheild tank. This can be improved even more if you dont go with the web you suggested and go with the nos instead, which uses up a turret slot, which you probably wont use for a gun if you have 6 cruise/seige launchers. The main advantage of a heavy nos or two is that it improves your overall tanking while hurting your opponents tank. 1 heavy nos is all it takes to ruin a frigs day, and 2 empty cruiser sized ships pretty fast. Then just use your drones to pop the small targets. Drone's V, Drone's interfacing IV and the rest of the drone skill to at least 3 help out a great deal with this.

Does Heavy NOS work at all on NPC's though? I thought they had unlimited cap. Maybe I am thinking of the wrong thing, when you say NOS, I assume an energy vampire is the same thing right?? Sorry, a bit new to all of the lingo.

But even if they were immune to NOS and have unlimited amounts of cap, they'd still be helping you with your tank as they are supplementing your cap.

The boss mobs in specific are often immune to the effects of nos and other dehabilitating effects. Many NPCs are affected by NOS. I am too lazy to dig up the patch release notes stating this.

I had been using the NOS before but had seen a post where someone had mentioned NPCs having unlimited cap. So I just took them off and replaced with more firepower. I need a better way of killing those pesty little webifier frigates and spider drones. What works best to get rid of those? Mid Lvl Drones? Would webbing the frigates and drones allow me to get a better hit on them with my cruise missles? Haven't tried that, but will tonight :)

There is no easy solution and still remain viable against larger targets. 1. 5 tech II medium drones 2. Couple of small guns in the last 2 slots 3. Advanced Cruise Tech II Ammo (best solution if you have the skills/money) 4. Webbers (Not overly effective) 5. NOS (Not overly effective) 6. Target Painters (Prob the most effective none Tech II ammo method I have found) 7. Missile Precision (better than nothing) The problem is, your missiles hit best when MWD is on. If you NOS em, they cannot turn MWD on. However, you can only get them to toggle MWD if you have an AB on :) Generally I ignore the frigates, after they get to me, until last then I read a book and waste thousands of isk in missiles on them.

Webbers and drones all over, and huge aggro. I warped out a couple of times, but I took too much damage to actually do someting with my cruise missiles and T2 med drones. After 3rd warpout, I got ****ed off, went to station, fitted all assault launchers and webbers, went in, killed everything small and then refitted again. Took some extra time, but got the job done!
