As always, New Zealand walks to the beat of its own drum and pushes for Parliament to pass a new law crushing cyber bullies and harrasment.
Will it work? Perhaps so at a National/local level.
How will they deal with international bullies via Social Networks and even MMO's like Eve Online?
Will this be the precedent for the rest of the Western World to create and enforce these laws across the board?
If so.... What will happen to Goons, The Mittani and other morons who feel harrasment, personal insults and encitement of suicide are just plain old sandbox fun and games? No mad, no sad, no bad...............
I've copped a fair amount of personal abuse, attacks and absolute defamation and utter bullshyte from many a player in this game.. would I consider it worth having someone actually charged and put in jail over....
In some cases, absolutely not, I am fully aware of how pathetic some players are and how much attention they crave..
In a few other cases, yes... Some of the personal abuse, private emails and threats I have received, I believe those few people are quite sick and deserve to spend a few months in jail contemplating their personality disorder.
Overall..... Maybe this would be a good thing for Facebook and other social network sites.... but EvE?
Perhaps just a few tweaks here and there to what we already have is needed... but outright jail sentence if a few people get their feathers ruffled... I am not so sure.
It comes down to interpretation and some softies considering the smallest slight, their biggest affront.....
How would they monitor this kind of thing, judge it?
Is it time for CCP to tighten up their ideas on personal attacks etc on public forums? What is acceptable and what is not?
Yes I think so, before our game gets destroyed by those few people who will take it to the extreme when they get a little butthurt.
Times are changing and its definitely adapt or die time...

People need to take things into context.... However people always fail in that regard.
You could take a leaf out of your own book with that comment.

Indeed, the question is, where does it become open to interpretation based on how the recipient feels they are being treated?
What some people consider harmless, others might feel is harrasment or bullying.
Hence the OP
I wrote it for an open discussion and peoples opinions on the subject as obviously peoples opinions will vary depending on their own morales :) |

Tangents aside from the people that like to get away with abuse, bullying and harrasment
Some of the people posting need to go back to the OP and read it very slowly, then contemplate the questions asked in said OP.
There have been plenty of occasions when the forums have been used for personal attacks and bullying and unfortunately some of our previous.......
CSM's were the recipients of said abuse. Their personal details were broadcast all over the forums as part of the CSM process.
A little less ignorance and a little more intelligent debate wouldn't go amiss. |
