Personally, I suspect the growth is due to alts.

Your char's name is "helyean," which is, phonetically, "hellion." Rather appropriate, I think, regarding the "child" part.
Perhaps you should have named yourself "baybean" instead? You can always biomass and remake, you know.
In all seriousness, naming yourself a phonetic of something that indicates some troublemaker or a tough guy, then whining about trouble finding you, is quite delicious. |

Well you got into eve, had a bad start, got yourself ganked and started whining about it and while defending your dignity you spread a little hate about the game that most people around here love. Therefore you get trolled. Surprised?
Nontheless: Here's a couple of Rules to go by as a Newb*
1) Nobody in New Eden that isn't a friend of your character cares about your failures. So do the damn tutorials. 2) Usually everyone is quite friendly in EVE but if someone can kill you, he will. Not because he's an *******, just because he can. Find out how people are able to kill you and do the damn tutorials 3) Newbtears are the most favourite beverage to pirates. 4) Longterm planning always wins. Do them tutorials. 5) Every ship that is actively used can and probably will be destroyed eventually so dont fly stuff that you cant affort to lose. High Risk = high rewards = moar tears. 6) The police is not around to protect. It's just there to punish. Do the tutorials. All of them. 7) Never trust any offer in Local chat. Never. Just dont.
Edit: *Newb is a widespread term in EVE. It defines people in their first days up to the first years. While in most other games you need a fortnight to figure out the whole game in EVE this task can take several years. |

The sub numbers for this game are definately skewed. Amoung the things that make this game different is the number of alts seemingly everyone has. And to generate these alts, since only three come with an account, and only one can train, people buy more subs. While it is somewhat an aberation, just the other day the was a thread about some guy mining with 97 alts. In short, referencing sub numbers is not really a valid way to show the games popularity.
All that aside, geting your pixels dispersed into other pixels shouldnt be taken so hard. And if you consider gaining thoses pixels in a certain configuration hard work you are missing the game part. Maybe just try not to take pixel dispersion personally, and try playing a game for there desired configuration instead of working hard for it. |

I was actually trying to be kind to you and offer some meaningful advice and insight. That's the last time that will happen. If your friends are anything like you we don't want them in the game anyway because social media works both ways and every shitpost you put out there only serves to increase the legend that is Eve in which the fittest survives. Eve is an elite mmo not built for mass market consumption. You are just sore because your stupidity led to your loss. This is how eve teaches you how to survive. You failed the first test because you are not a survivor. If you had any sense at all you would understand that everyone makes mistakes and learning from them is the real character progression in eve. |

Not true man. The older players still lost ships but instead of crying about how unfair things are we learned how to fight back. If someone is so mentally weak that losing a pixel spaceship makes them quit the game then good luck to them in whatever game they decide to complain about and quit next. I lost a shitfit pve cane to the tuskers in my first week(ish) of Eve. Then the guy ransomed my pod. Left me completely destitute and ruined all the effort I had put into the game up to that point. What a rush! As a newbie, this event sealed the deal for me. Eve was clearly the greatest ******* game of all time. No other game has ever been able to replicate that feeling of danger and risk before or since. In fact, Eve has ruined all other MMO's for me. How can I possibly become invested in a game that I cannot conceivably lose? Some people, like you OP, just aren't meant for this kind of game. Sorry mate.
Perfect, couldn't have said it any better! You sir, win at EvE.

Next time maybe dont fly a Drake Navy Issue, theyre **** and even shittier if you cant fit them properly. To be specific: they tank less than a normal drake, they dont have any higher DPS, just projection bonuses which are more interesting in PvP than PvE and they cost like 3 or 4 times like a normal Drake. Never fly what you cant afford to lose. |

@OP
o7
First of, I hear what you're saying and I've been there. I years in and out of WoW from vanilla up to Mists and left because the PvP scene went from open world to arenas and I wanted more of a 'World' of Warcraft. From there I moved to Warhammer online and City of Heroes (*sniff*) but hit the same problems of grinding for something meaning less
I also started playing EvE for a while and left because I found it difficult and unforgiving. But please hear me out for a second.
I wanting meaningful PvP and I feel like I have it here. Yes it's not difficult and yes it's not fair but in my mind PvP isn't. There's always a bigger dog but that doesn't mean you can't bite.
first and foremost, you need good people to play with and learn from and as an experienced MMO player, I'm sure you appreciate this. It's even more important in EvE as people can scam you or make your life difficult and there is so much to learn. However, giving a little trust and meeting the right people makes all the difference.
For instance, I came back, leveled some skills and did some missions in high sec to get some ISK and joined RvB. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I learned a lot, got a lot of good fight and met some great people. You could also look into EvE Uni or Agony Unleashed to learn more. Hell, if you want, you can message me if you like. I'm doing Faction Warefare right know as I don't have a lot of time in game.
Now, I've never flown anything seriously higher than Gallente frigates and a few destroyers but I'm learning a lot about how to fly and fit them. I used to spend ages on talent calculators tweaking build but this has been far more satisfying. Figuring out what I can fit and trying different builds.
Now I have lost A LOT of ships (https://zkillboard.com/character/92893953/). In fact, I have only killed a handful compared to what I've lost but I've measured my risks. I've lost the odd expensive destroyer to camps but I've learned a little from each one and even chatted to the people who've killed me for some tips. Most have been helpful and some haven't.
In short, EvE is unfair, but it's a sandbox and that's the nature of the beast. You can either with that or against it. If that means being in a game with a variety of game play styles and meaningful PvP, I should be ready to accept that fact as well.
Be smart about what you can afford to loose and use what you have to learn. Don't be afraid to ask people for duels and learn the craft. even if it means fitting out a few cheap ships to learn from. It's all about the people in this game and how they interact.
Going back to WoW felt so limited and isolated compared to EvE for me now.
It's a harsh mountain to climb but the view from the top is worth it, and I have a long way to climb

The best thing about Eve is the players, the worst thing about Eve is the players, the OP needs to understand that.
I come from the point of view that everybody I meet in Eve is a scum bag unless I learn otherwise over an extended period of time, once of my great pleasures in this game is doing things because I want to knowing that there is someone wanting to and failing to kill me. I have had so much fun in game wasting peoples time when they try to kill me, though most have the attention span of a gnat.
If you want to have fun in this game change your thinking, teh fun comes from being smart and not being a victim in a game where it is so easy to be a victim, to be honest its the main reason I play Eve.
I give you an example:
I was sitting cloaked off a low sec gate from high sec and my corp mate wanted to bring in a Mael to be cynoed out, I had spotted this guy earlier camping the gate, he had a spy on the hisec side, soon as he saw something come to the gate he would warp to the gate in his Myrmidon to get tackle, so I kept getting my corp mate to warp to the gate then warp away, this guy warped back and forth 20 times before he logged in disgust, me and my corpmate were giggling like school grils... This is Eve to me! |

Eve basically lives and dies on allowing as much freedom of interaction between players as is reasonably feasible.
That's the product that they are really selling here.
Disliking that level of freedom is like eating a steak and disliking that there's beef in it. If you don't love that you (and others) have that freedom, then at a fundamental level, the game really is not for you. |

You can totally play this game solo if that's your style. But you better a damn good gamer.
