Fellow Pilots,
Well, bound to happen I guess. I was thoroughly enjoying hunting Guristas and lotting their cargo in my Kestrel, when another pilot zoomed in after 3 of my kills and ninja looted 2 of the cargo containers.
His icon turned "red", So I attacked and waxed him/her. Wasn't really a fight - I lucked out that it wasn't a cruiser or worse (didn't show info or scan, I made a mental note to do so in the future). Actually, I kind of felt bad afterwards. Although, I have to admit that I chuckled after getting the CONCORD notice of the kill, I thought a run-in with "The Law" was coming.
Terminology Q: Now, to say I "pod" someone, is that when I actually destroy the capsule as well - or when I just destroy the ship? The pilot's pod warped immediately.
Interface Q: I checked the overview, and didn't see it, but I would prefer an easier way to "lock" a target other than right clicking in the overview or the icon...is this possible? Is there an alternate method?
Thanks
Tlol

Podding is killing the pod and other than to right click the target in overview or in space there is no known way to me that allows you to target. . Seriously Have I Not Said How I Can Assist Some One You Are Killing Online? |

podding someone is destroying the escape capsule "pod" thus killing them. After this you can collect a frozen corpse

Ctrl - Left click in the overview will lock the target.... I don't know if you can ctrl-click on an object in space ? ----- Lucid but lost... |

Ctrl-clicking the target in the overview will lock it. That's faster than dealing with the right-click menus.

You can CTRL-CLICK on a ship in space or entry on the Overview to target it. You don't have to rclick then pick from the menu. You could also just click the Target icon in the Selected Item window if the ship is selected as well. -- Lil Miner |

Thanks all. Ctrl+click is much faster - cool.
And yes, I would have podded the goof, but he/she warped to fast.
To add insult to injury, I was also going to be REALLY vindictive and put out a bounty, but the pilot's security clearence was not low enough

Edited by: Simon Jax on 13/02/2006 18:18:26 When someone is flagged for can-theft, you can destroy his ship without CONCORD interference. However, his pod is a different story if I recall correctly. Had you managed to pod him, you would likely have been ripped to shreds by CONCORD for your trouble.
And quite frankly, that is as it should be. Podding someone is a pretty aggregious thing. And completely and totally unwarranted given his rather minor transgression. He got what was coming to him by having his ship blasted away, podding him afterward for no cause would be reprehensible.

.5+ space, you cannot pod when someone has a thief flag, you can only pop their ship. If you do pod them, you will get concordokened.
.1-.4, you can pod if you want, but you'll take a sec hit, and you'll have a global criminal countdown timer on you for 15minutes. This means the sentries will fire on you if you get too close to them.

Podding someone is a bit more difficult than it initially appears. Unless you've got some targetting mods or skill in target analysis their signature radius means it takes roughly 5-6 seconds to lock on.

Heheh. Thanks. I hesitated at first thinking I may be getting baited, but I thought, meh, let's see what'll happen and give the theif his due.

Albeit, sickeningly satifying.
But I didn't, I felt bad about wasting the ship.
This is good to know in the future, thanks. New game, new etiquette, new death penalties, etc. Deaths in WoW are handed out like Halloween candy in group PvP.

Also good to know, thanks. Being concordokened is not something I would fine pleasant, I am sure.

another way to shoot something instantly -especially useful if gate camping - is to left click your mods...then dont click on anything else until the target(s) turn up. click on one and all the guns/mods you clicked on become active as soon as the target is locked
^^dunno if that still works, used to be very useful...although it can give rise to very funny messages telling you that people have started to scramble a gate etc. (CONCORD dont take that lightly)
I will save you, but make sure you bring beer - Wrangler and cAKe - Imaran I thought it was bREe, omgi'mgivingawaymodroomsecwetsftl - Cortes when come back ... bring PIE. Me like PIE. -Capsicum |

Yes it does, I've almost done it by accident . Basically you get a large cross hair that can be moved around with the mouse.

Don't feel bad, keep that satisfaction instead. It was a thief and he/she knew the risks and got the reward he deserved. Good work!
If it was a noob, even better. Best way to deal with thiefs and pirates is to kill them in their cradle . Make them learn that it is not a profession without risks.
Pirates and thieves are an important part of Eve and that is how it should be though. Game would be a lot more boring without them.

So it would be a case of Noob kills Noob for me then
I have a feeling it was a shuttle or a poor little ibis the pilot was flying, since it took all of three missles to blow it into a fine mist.
I think I am going to name my soon-to-be-bought destroyer, "Ibis"

A thing to note about this ctrl+click on a target to lock it. This does not work on pods, here you have to right click (or click the crosshair symbol in the top part of the overview).
