Nice work.
So long as the tier III or Tech2 BS don't have much in the way of drones, they'll fit in nicely. Gallente w/ no bays are something of an exception of course.

Very nice, considering that that is your first model! I didn't think anyone acctually liked my concepts that much, especially since they are really more flat pencil sketches then acctual concept art that I made look semi professional by slapping them on a colored background in photoshop.

tbh i know its a difficult program to install but Softimage makes an excellent renderer..... i see many simalarities in what the models the viscom ppl (i hang out with) make and the ships in the game. I wouldnt be supprised if CCP used the progam tbh

I've heard that the Eve team use Maya, I'm not sure though.
As for your concepts Noriath. I like them all except that hideous Dominix Tristan hybrid. Damn, I think that takes over the Moa for uglyness. :P
The rest are nice though, that Amarr was in hawt as hell.
The pictures Wrangler didn't want you to see! |

Jubar. Try turning on ambient occlusion for your renders. In the buttons panel click on the little world icon and there is a tab "Amb Occ". Turn it on and set the sample to 16. Each render will take much longer so only do it for the ones you show off :).

Well i have no concept scetches but i do have some sujestions for your designs [im sure ccp have already modeled the ships].
Caldari non symetrical Functional in appearence but high tech looking Blinking lights too
Gillent this one is harder i admit with the capdari you have the Scorpion with 1 wing then you get the raven bigger stockyer with 2 wings. But with the Gilent you get the big whale followed by the cool megathron so i cant help much here exept ake it organic looking [like a cross between the brutix and megathron.
Amarr Intimidating looking ship Big armour plates with non armoud sections between plates make it pointed and talon like or claw like or spear like.
Mimitar Functional in appearence and promitive looking make it light looking to fit in with speed ethos of the race Have some solar pannels make it look Incomplete not finished. Make pipes that should really be covered uncovered have some struts poking out.
This is not a joke these are serious analysis of the ship designs as I see it. I hope this helps

I always like the Tristan model. A battleship in a similar style could look pretty good.

First IÆd like to thank CCP for making the most immersive environment EVER.
I would love to work with CCP and their staff to observe their design methodologies. I found it wonderful how the designs of their ships fit so poetically within the context of their racial backgrounds. When I saw this thread I found it an opportunity to try my own hand at a design, especially aimed at an Amarr tier three battleship. Linkage Most of you are going to say, ôWell itÆs just an Apoc flying wrong.ö Well it has a lot more than that. In trying to decide how this ship should function I went and looked at some religious works. I am an architecture student so I immediately headed for some religious forms and geometries found within spaces. I found that an image of the spires at Sagrada Familia to have some potential as some precedence for the design. I began to think about what the Amarrian race stands for and how it should influence this ship. I decided that this ship would be situated vertical because the horizontal is really talking about motion and speed, which the Amarr truly are not. The real potential was up! Like the cathedrals, it is a form of power which I wanted to evoke in this design. I looked at the ships that are currently in the Amarrian arsenal to understand a family of geometries and forms that I could use as a palette to fit this ship into its context. The spires that rise from the top are symbolic of a crown also evoking a mental connection with divinity and power. I chose large and generously placed engines to also give the aesthetic of domination or raw power. Like the other brute Amarrian designs it looks like ôIf that thing rams usà.weÆre screwedö, so I wanted this to be the mother ram ship, just a hammer head flyÆn straight at ya! IÆm glad if you think itÆs an apoc flying sideways because it means that I have somehow made this ship ôfit inö. I put a lot of thought and love into her; as have the people whoÆs designs were posted before me. I hope that I will inspire you to go get out a pencil and paper and start thinking about how you would do it and why. ItÆs all good for the soul.

Ok, they are close to one another, we need CCP and Games Workshop to talk to each other! The Imperial ships so resemble amarr ships its just not funny.

Edited by: Makkita on 16/02/2006 17:53:25 After I posted last night and had some time for my concept to settle in I had some dreams about a revamp so I got up today and started revamping from before. I think you'll be interested in the new take on the ship. Linkage The form comes from greaves that a knight would wear. Also feels a bit "smaller than the last(wouldn't want to steal any of the dreadnoughts thunder).

Wow some really good things here. Keep posting and keep modeling, plzzz! As someone else posted, scifimeshes.com is a good place for advice and tips.
OP - Thats a good start for a beginner especially. I would like to see you take a stab at Siddy's Popehat.
Siddy - I LOVE THE CATHEDRAL! WONDERFUL. At a glance you know it's amarrian, you did a good job using current designs to elaborate from. Subtly making it resemble the pope's hat to reinforce the religious imagery on a subconcious level was a very nice touch. Siddy's pope hat 4tw!
Makkita - I like it, although it does resemble the Punisher or Apoc flying vertically. I like the verticality, but I think it needs to be wider towards the middle so as to emphasize the strength of the ship. Think more along the lines of a shield/sword combination. I think it would feel more solid that way. Look at pictures of Slave 1, or this shot. A simalr vertical orientation but the ovoid behind it provides a feeling of mass, size, and authority. Similar to a cowl in a way.
Ashurian - Great designs. The Matari one looks kind of like a T-16 that I used to shoot womp rats in back home. That said I still really like it.
The Caldari one is a bit too Megathrony for me still. Most Caldari ships are built off of a basic cube or rectangle shape and it needs to be a bit more asymetrical. Try drawing a nice symmetrical bs then just erasing half of it.
The Gallente sketch is AWESOME. I love it and I love the homage to the Tristan design. So many love the tristans shape, I don't know why they can't expand on it rather than the overly phallic ones currently in game.
The Amarr ship I am kinda iffy on, although I like that you have based the shape off partially off the Machariel. The slighly rounded armors with points are distinctly Amarrian, although the overall shape of the design is a little too similar to the gun from "The Fifth Element".
Noriath: I still love your designs mate. The MKII Domi is just great, as is the Matari one. I think Siddy's Popehat design may be my new amarrian favorite though. The curves and shapes are just great. I love the Panther, but I think CCP would add some ugly scorpion tail to the ship and make it all fugly which would be sad.
Keep it up guys! I love to see all the talent in the community!
