"Ulsten, the text of the second vote included no reference to the space invaders."
I'd love to see a log of the 1st and 2nd votes :) I've seen a log of the meeting where the EVOL demands were presented, and it seemed to be decided to wait and vote on it later or something.
And I've seen the bits you were able to include on your post in the Corp forum. And read your summary.
I'm talking about the 2nd vote Qball wanted after TTi made its announcement.
The effect of that vote, it seemed to me, was to wholeheartedly side with EVOL/FA and help them hunt down TTi. Now given the original demands from EVOL that we give up pirating, and the claims from several of the FA members that they were coming into Venal exclusively to kill evil nasty pirates, and the fact that CoC, at least, has a standing war with us, I find it hard to see how anyone could believe we could do anything else other than split from the alliance.
I'm not sure how the 2nd vote was presented, or if, indeed, anyone knew exactly what was being voted on, but the outcome was to ally with EVOL and crew. With the 2nd vote, resistance to EVOL crumbled away to nothing. And seeing as how EVOL and CoC and all the people who came in to Venal to clean out pirates are out to get us, we couldn't really stay :D
Basically I don't really feel anyone handled it too well :D I think there was some over reaction on the part of TTI. But also, try to look at it from their point of view.
"Ok, we're voting on whether or not to sell out TTi"
...
"Good news TTI! By a narrow majority vote we decided not to sell you out today!"
I think understandably they'd be a bit peeved at such treatment. I know I'd tend to look askance at members who voted to boot my corp :)
I think a lot of the problem arose from the way it was put to a vote like that. "Ok, vote, to we accept Fountains demands and boot TTi".
I think a more tactful approach would have been "Ok, the FA guys want us to boot TTI. Obviously we're not going to start trying to sell out alliance members. But I do think we are losing the war and things need to change. What do you have in mind TTi? I hope its something good or I fear this alliance is going down. "
Basically the alliance was pretty bad off once it even got to that vote :) Not much in the way of solidity and what not. I'm not trying to say anything about the rightness or wrongess of what specific people did in this instance.
I am just saying, as a general rule, if any alliance reaches the point where they are voting whether or not to kick out a sizeable portion of their members at the demands of an enemy, that alliances days are getting pretty short :) It sorta destroys any trust that might be going on in there.
Oh and Setec is quite capable of speaking for himself :) But seeing as how he's been pretty busy IRL this week (haven't seen him online once :D) I think any grand conspiracy theories involving him are rather far fetched.
