Edited by: Cairo on 15/02/2006 12:21:12 I've been in my starter corp for nearly two years now and no one can tell me I'm playing the game wrong somehow. So much for that argument.
My previous character was in a player corp, as was my beta test character and it was alright. With this character, however, I wanted to try something different and decided to stick to the starter corp. It's been great, I tell you.
No need to worry about pulling my weight. I can stop playing for months if I feel like it and no one's going to look at me sideways. I don't HAVE to do anything. I'm no-one's dead weight.
I don't have to worry about being pulled into an inconvenient war. I'll fight when I feel like it and have time to, but I don't want to spend my time looking out for some corp that feels they HAVE to be in a war with my corp.
I get to meet new people all the time. Everybody starts in a starter corp, so you can be guaranteed to meet new people every week, if not every day. Most of them aren't hostile, either, which is great.
I get to help new players when I feel like it. And when I don't feel like it, I know I'm not obliged to.
You want to be able to wage war with starter corps? Fine; I want the ability to opt-out of those wars for free and without punishment, while you get to deal with the war machine of the faction the corp belongs to. You get what you want, which is to go to war with any corp out there, while I get what I want, which for the time being is to go to war with no corp.
It's only fair that if "you" get something, "I" get something, too. Or are "you" somehow better than "I" am? Is "your" way of playing somehow more important than "mine"? I don't think so.
("You" refers to all you who want to force people out of their starter corps or wage war with the corps. "I" refers to me and anyone else who doesn't like your idea).
Does this mean I'll always stick to the starter corp? Absolutely not. It's just been the best thing for me thus far and will be for the foreseeable future. PC corps have plenty going for them (I know, I've been there) and I'm certain I'd find a nice place to call home if I wanted to. If I eventually do, one thing's for sure, though: I'm not going to foolishly think everybody else should follow suit. It's their call.
