The moment that all of us have been waiting for, the long awaited Hardware Upgrade is upon us. On Tuesday, 21 February starting at 0800 GMT, the old Tranquility hardware is replaced with 70 new IBM 64-bit AMD dual processor blade servers. This upgrade is expected to be a long and difficult process, so the normal maintenance period will be extended to 24 hours. However, the end result will greatly improve the Eve gaming experience.
We are recommending the training of long duration skills in case the upgrade takes longer than the expected period of time.

We are targeting deployment of the Bloodlines patch on 28 February. Patch Notes will be available later next week after the Hardware upgrade.
Since this is a hardware upgrade, there is no need for a client-side patch, nor any changes to the Eve server code that will require patch notes. The 'old' stuff will be used by CCP, so you can't have it.
By recommending a long skill, I mean something that won't complete training on Wednesday at 0800 when we are estimating a return to service. Give it a day or three longer than that just to be sure.

Oveur mentioned in a previous forum post (I can't find it right now) that the old hamsters would be retired to a cozy nest, watch gladiator movies all day and be used as an escort service from time to time.
In any case, they have served us long and faithfully. I think they deserve better than to be sacrificed.

J'inn, yes the hardware we are installing is very cutting edge and IBM is *very* interested in how things turn out. The same with Texas Memory Systems, the company that provided us with the solid-state memory system.
Ominus, it is the Top 500 that we are shooting for. It would take a lot more equipment than what we are installing to make it to the Top 100 list.

Dakath, yes we will be able to expand the cluster by adding new Bladecenter chassis and blades to the existing hardware as needed.
Nakamo, #3 is correct. The new blades are dual-core, cual CPU Opterons. Oveur mentioned this in this Dev Blog from last month.
