I have seen some people asking for the option of "warp to" to be included for objects listed on the regular scanner, while this would increase tactics for the game I think there would be a better way to implement this.
1) Make scanning scanning volumetric Why not make the basic scanner included on all ships limited to scan a certain area of space. Also if you then confine the area which you are looking at you would be able to get greater range.
2) Add scanning modules Add modules that would enhance the basic scanner included on the ship. These modules could use the regular scanner interface but provide more functionality, ie. a module that allows you to warp to things in on the scanner, or modules that enhance the accuracy of the scanner (rough distances instead of unknown range).
I feel that adding changes like this would increase tactics in battle and would also allow for better resolution of conflicts rather than an exchange of words until the parties log off, while one person is in the middle of nowhere.

Just to expand on this, it would also be nice if there were more co-ordination skills for gangs, ie. the "leader" could warp people to certain locations where he might have detected an enemy presence.
Also an alternative to just having modules would be to make them not worth using on a regular ship (very high cpu usage). Then there could be a different class of ship like a science ship with tons of cpu but little to no slots.
Having a ship that serves a specific role rather than the regular jack of all trades ships that we have would be interesting to see.

I dont agree that you should be able to warp to things, mostly for the fact that I think this would make corp mining ops a nightmare, since they would totaly have to worry about pirates warping stright to them, instead of having to look for them. Also there are many locations I like to call POI (points of interest) that I have explored looking for. Yes I will admit it would make it much easyer to find these things, but part of the fun is narrowing down the location of it. Also when the contrustion of space stations come into the game I dont think builders would enjoy that people would be able to warp right to there stockpile of items they will need to collect to build them.
But i do like the idea of new scanning tools, that either speed up scanning time, or help you identify location a bit better, and possaible give you a greater range.

In beta it was possible to tinker with a whole range of setting on the scanner (range, field of view and so forth), but those either never worked properly or were deemed too unhandy and got chopped away before release.
I would personally like to see other things being worked on before this, things like the survey scanner could need some tweaking and also the "gangs" interface could do with some re-working. -- "I am an expert in not caring.
