Nice nice, but I think it lacks a little on the mutation side AND the Doom side.
Doominix Maximus? Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Sozo SteelMist wrote:wow troll central. Abidel its only happened twice and not in quick succession. So how is that insanity? And jim i doubt it. he's a freind he didn't even touch my computer the first time i got the virus. He didn't even know what eve was. CBA to read the whole thread. But EVE has no viruses built in, that would be a quick way to end your company.
So that leave's 2 feasible alternatives. 1. Your friend is having you on, so you have to get him to fix your PC. 2. Your friend's IT knowledge is severely limited.
Since you trust him it's probably 2. Either he's believing a false positive from a virus checker, or he is guessing at the source of a virus that is in fact somewhere else.

Jove Death wrote:However I have been slightly worried my pc camera seems to go on everytime I use the shower. Im guessing thats just Falcon My camera started doing that for a while too. What I did was started to leave the shower curtain open so there was a clear view. I heard a little bit of faint vomiting noises and a thud, and it's not come back on since. In the interests of being constructive,
-No random ******* can send you a virus via EVE -The "computer guy" who helped you probably has no idea what he's talking about and I would advise against getting his help on the future

There are a few possibilities here:
1. False positive from the virus scanner. Virus scanners are weird, and can screw up. Solution: tell your antivirus to ignore whatever it is.
2. Virus entering through the Eve Browser. Eve uses an old version of the Chromium code base (same stuff Google Chrome is based on). To my knowledge, though, it has not kept up with the releases, which theoretically might be problematic. Solution: try to identify what the last sites you visited in the IGB before the virus was detected were, and don't visit them anymore using the IGB.
3. Virus unrelated to Eve. Double check that there is definitely no other way a virus could have infected your computer.
Personal advice: The Eve browser is not as fully-fledged, well-supported, compliant, or reliable as a dedicated browser. Unless you simply must use the in-game browser, try to use something external, like Firefox or Chrome. To ease the alt-tab process, set Eve to use "Fixed Window" instead of "Fullscreen" mode. There is a slight performance drop, but your computer will no longer flip out when you try to alt-tab.
I am moving this to Issues, Workarounds and Localization, plus editing the title to be a bit more descriptive (so it doesn't sound like you're talking about hacking/exploiting Eve).

Right, I had forgotten about the IGB.
Solution: Run EVE in fixed window and don't use the IGB. |

I know you need to find a real computer guy to sort out your PC. ^^ Need to place a high-sec POS? Premade corps for sale, or your corp's standings boosted. Trading since January 2012. Many corps sold/boosted - see my thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=63128&find=unread |

Sheldor Amouh wrote:The only way you could have gotten a virus through eve is from the in game browser. While it may be possible for CCP to put a virus in the client itself it would a) be fairly self destructive of them amd b) be talked about more on the forums because everyone playing eve would have. If he found the infected file in the cache folder for the in game browser then thats your anseer. If he didnt, then it has nothing to do with eve at all.
is correct. if you Uninstall Eve from your computer you also need to make sure that any folders remaining are also removed. reboot your com at this point. run an virus scan then reinstall
oh i almost forgot. biomass your toon.
oh i did forget.....if it happens again then your problem is more problematic and may require a wipe.
and do not forget to biomass |
