Having decided to venture out to a low security sector to do a bit of scouting, i bought insurance for my then current ship.

While i was out scouting I was unfortunate to come into a blockade and got blasted into tiny little pieces.

While i accept that i went looking in a dangerous area, shouldn't my insurance pay out if i lose my ship?

no matter where you are / what you do..

the insurance will pay
you will get the summ you defined in your contract

but care
- the insurance last (only) one week
- you will not receive a warning message, after the contract run out
- the insurance is ship-related (not related to you)

Check your wallet .. sub tab journal or transactions to see if the payment was made. It is too to double check the insurance, obviously. I tripple check before leaving when i get insurance, usualy im 2/3 of the way to the bistot before i remember i didnt get insurance.

I would also suggest you send it a bug report, maybe it was an error on your part, maybe it is a bug. Reporting it is the best thing to do. That way if there is an issue, the devs will have some info to help them fix it.

I'm a newb and I'm curious: is insurance fraud a problem in-game? I would imagine it would be pretty easy to have a corp where one dude pumps out cheap ships that he hands off to folks to get ensured for the max and then blown up quickly. Does the math not work out or what?

Insurance fraud is possible, but some would state the return value on committing insurance fraud is not high enough to make it worth the while. The thought is if a character is skilled enough to produce a vessel at the lowest possible cost, then the same character should be skilled enough to make more money elsewhere.

For instance, it costs around 158k (using NPC valued minerals and doubling the price of Zydrine and Megacyte) to build a Rifter frigate given you have decent research and high production efficiency. The Insurance cost for the vessel is 84K and the payout is 280K. So in the end you would only make about 38k per vessel destroyed. The total yield would be a little less based upon where you rent the factory from, build time and taxes. I donĘt know how long it takes to get the vessel destroyed and get the claim money, but some do consider it worth the effect. I would also imagine the yield would be higher for cruisers and other vessels based upon their type.

I would venture that there is a problem with insurance (either as a result of the latest patch or something deeper) as the other night I was informed by CONCORDE that they very very sorry for the loss of my ship and have given me a courtesy velator and some trit. Fine, apart from I have not lost a ship that has not already been catered for in previous insurance transactions...

Besides the fact that you are necro'ing a VERY dead thread and it will soon be locked...

There are 2 says that you could have gotten that message aside from actually losing a ship:

1) Somebody else could have been using a ship that EvE had flagged as belonging to you and lost it. Thus EvE will replace it;

2) You were flying around in a POD and docked. EvE sees you docking in a POD and gives you a ship. If you run around all over the place in a POD docking in every station you see, you will get a velator in every station that you dock in.

Eph.

You'll get that if your ship is blown up in a system where you have no other ships in hangars. It's noob-proofing things so new players aren't left without any ship at all.

Since this thread was necro'd, before any newbies get confused:

Insurance is now for 12 weeks, not one.

There I was, reading, when this bizarre repetition of "Insurance lasts 1 week" kept popping up. One time is someone who doesn't know any better, but 2 times begats suspicion.

Thread from 2003? Oh, well then.
