That's BS. The purpose of ads is not propaganda, its to get people to try something new. Are you saying that the hundreds of companies that advertise there are just wasting their time, because nobody would ever click on their ads, even though their statistics show thousands of clicks and hundreds of sales from those ads?
Quit using that goddamn smug grin at the end of your posts. It's a more prudent use of resources to try and capture an entire audience, rather than having to compete with another economic good in the same category. Sure, yeah, Penny Arcade gives tons of exposure, but they can't go one month without a World of Warcraft comic. How many EVE Online comics have they posted? Zero. How many times has the newspost started out with "...so I'm really getting into EVE Online."? Zero.
It would be like Microsoft adverising on an "I love Lunix" TV show. It's a waste of money.
I clicked on the PA EVE Online link. I'm a paying subscriber now.

EvE is primarilly promoted through word of mouth, CCP has already on more than one occation stated that the game is doing better than their projected numbers and as we can see with the new hardware hitting any day now the game is peaked at player possibilities.
Why take out alot of ads untill the lag issue is solved?
If the new hardware removes the lag then I expect CCP will take out some more ads.

Also CCP may not want a crazy influx of players, it feels it is doing perfectly alright. If it advertised more it may turn out more angry customers, instead they are building the game they love, and as other have said, it letting it grow through word of mouth and through the fact of other realizing that eve is one of the best made mmorpgs made to date(in terms of 1. content 2. amazing market system) In my experience i havent seen an empty area, and there seems to be plenty of people everywhere for any skill level.
Good job CCP, please never sell yourselves out to anyone!(cough..blizzard...cough..bunji...cough...turbine...cough)

"The escapist" ran a couple of issues with Eve-online ads...

Hope that we can enjoy the new hardware a bit and don't hit 50.000 players already in summer. So please don't do to much advertising. I prefer slower, but steady growth. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

I agree with that. I can't see the 12 year old brats who all seem to have ADHD now, spending the time and effort to learn this game. They would also have a problem not being able to go out in the first week with a Battleship and blowing everyone they see to pieces.
No I think we are safe from THEM.
I really wouldn't like to see Jita as a hangout for 12 year old louts drinking white lightning and hurling abuse at the locals.
Oh, wait.. --------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Rulkez on 18/02/2006 11:38:43 they are always in PCGamer uk, infact there is a 7 page article this month on the future of pcgaming, CCP recieve massive praise for using digital ditribution (50000 copies sold since eve left shop shelves) and for player created content (ie 99% of teh events/news in eve being created/about something teh member base has done)
it also helps i suppose that one of teh writers plays eve, Jim rossingol, he alsowrote a couple of articles for the escapist iirc, Infact if you done a straw poll i bet a good few ppl joined EvE due to his GHSC article a few months back
also in this day and age, with message board etc playing such a massive part in game communities , word of mouth is just as effective as a $10000000000 advertising budget
the fact that Eve is still growing after 3 years + means something is being done correct
and hi drak
