With the recent titan battle on Serenity I've been thinking about the 2 servers and I've come to the conclusion that there is good to never attempt to merge the 2 servers.
Baring of course the legal requirements of the Chinese government both servers have developed to the point at which a merge would **** off a lot of people. The reason, null sec and POSs. You can't just make the serenity customers log onto the Tranquillity server with their own characters because especially in the null sec alliances they would be playing in space owned by the existing empires. There is also the issue of POS, will serenity POS be transferred to Tranquillity? if so what if there is POS on both servers around the same room. if the POS is simply moved to a station hanger, what about ships left in space, especially super carriers and titans that can't be docked.
The only practical way would be to have everyone dock in a station on both servers, shut down both of them, boot up a new server and basically reset the world so all of null sec is unclaimed and there are no POS or Outposts up. This of course is going to be very annoying to everyone concerned as they have to move stuff from NPC space to null, rebuild POSs, start gaining funds to build outposts and other such things and this is not factoring in the null sec wars are the Chinese null sec players base attempts to thrash out their place in the new global server. And this is assuming CCP doesn't mess up the transfer by losing the market data which is going to be disrupted anyway or lose character info.
So when all is said in some ways while CCP might like to create a world wide server, the practicalities of combining the servers and populations may in fact be more trouble than its worth. |

The real reason is that most of the sites used my Trade hub scammers are blocked in China, as well as most of the sites we all use to express ourselves in local...
The more important reason is that my sarcastic one liners don't translate very well into Chinese.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

If (and that is a pretty big "if") they was to be merged.. the solution is simple really, just call it a mirror-universe/alternative universe and place some wormholes or whatever between them 
Could even go with the explanation that Sansha Kuwakei tried to replicate the EVE-universe, but a slight miscalculation filled it with Asians and not hes mindless zombies

I dont suggest we merge.
I just suggest that once the chinese law changes, we are able to freely go to their server and vice versa.
And wed just have to register new accounts on that server and start from scratch.

There was actually certain parts of the game that had to be altered before CCP was even allowed to open Serenity.
What parts? No idea. I think I read at one point that it may have been related to the censorship laws there.
But it would stand that it's a major reason why they couldn't easily merge the two servers. |

Dozens of people also post threads about how EvE is dead and all evidence to the contrary is mere wishful thinking. Bad ideas/opinions shouldn't be refuted or supported. They should be left to wither so that the good ones can thrive. Merging the servers would be a logistical nightmare, require exorbitant resources and probably be culturally impossible. Besides that, a few dozen out of 500,000 does not constitute a significant amount, making their opinion insignificant.

I think even if they became separate galaxies with a gateway between them, this would all end poorly. While China may have bots, RMTers and all, their nullsec alliances would likely wind up pulverized into SPAM by ours.
From articles of... I believe Chribba? I remember that Serenity is a much more peaceful server than TQ and alliances out there aren't so used to sov-scale warfare. Compared to TQ folk that can't sit for a few months without throwing axes at each other again over some grudge or worthless piece of land, they'd just get wiped out.

They'll merge as soon as Chinese players can log on to Tranquility normally, and CCP won't have to lift a finger to make it happen. Isk is worth far more on Tranquility and there would be a mass exodus of gold farmers immediately.
The non-farmers will eventually want to be on the server with more players. |

I never said it wasn't a bad idea. The only way they could merge the servers would be to wipe out sov completely on both. It will never happen. If you would actually read my post, I was telling him that quite a lot of people are still asking for it, and do so every time the serenity server comes up. Explanation does not equate to endorsement. |

Terrible idea to do, I know, but come on people. Rift generator? That would be amazing if the idea of a merge wasn't so terrible right?

actually that's not that bad an idea really on a conceptual level. The only problem is that as I understand it Serenity is run 1 update behind Tranquillity so if you did that players would be playing with incompatible versions. |
