ECB Lottery
I have called this lottery ECB Lottery because the euro exchange rates on the European Central Banks homepage decide who wins the lottery.
The advantages of using this approach are
The lottery drawing is completely public. Anybody can verify who won
After I have published the ticket numbers and the end date I have no control of the selection process. The winners will emerge automatically once the end of day euro rates are published on the European Central Banks homepage.
The outcome is completely unpredictable and the probability of winning is distributed evenly on all tickets.
I will explain the selection process in details below.
The lottery prices are 1. Tech 2 BPO: Armor EM Hardner II BPO (to verify that I have this BPO check escrow in Amarr) 2. 500 million isk
Here are the rules
1 ticket cost 10 million isk
Number of tickets for sale is exactly 300
Once all tickets are sold each ticket will get a serial number between 0 and 299. The list of ticket numbers will be published here. A drawing date is published. It will most likely be the first coming Friday. A Friday because the euro exchange rate page stay fixed all weekend for all to verify the lottery result.
If you want to participate send isk to Agorn and post here how many tickets you bought.
If it is not possible to find 300 participants within 3 weeks the lottery will adapt to the number of tickets sold in the following way. The T2 BPO and 500mill isk prices are replaced with: ... 0-149 tickets sold: 90% of all ticket isk is given to one winner. ... 150-299 ticket sold: 60% of all ticket isk is given as first price. 30% is given as second price.
Details of the selection process:
It is not necessary to read these details to participate.
Look at this page: http://www.ecb.int/stats/shared/pdf/eurofxref.pdf
It shows the exchange rate of euros against 35 foreign currencies. First price is based on the following 5 currencies.
USD US dollar 1.1863 JPY Japanese yen 140.77 CZK Czech koruna 28.365 DKK Danish krone 7.4653 HUF Hungarian forint 251.70
The lottery uses the last digit in the exchange rates. As an example the exchange rates are shown above for the 17th of February. First a 5 digit number is constructed from the last digit in each currency.
The 5 digit number is: 37530
This number is mapped to the ticket number range by using the modulus function.
37530 mod 300 = 30
The winning ticket number for first price is 30.
Second price is based on the following 5 currencies.
PLN Polish zloty 3.7654 SIT Slovenian tolar 239.46 CHF Swiss franc 1.5621 ISK Icelandic krona 75.42 HRK Croatian kuna 7.2933
The 5 digit number for the 17th of February is: 46123
46123 mod 300 = 223
The winning ticket number for second price is 223.
To recapitulate. We are going through all this effort in order to make sure that the lottery drawing is completely public and impossible to manipulate. Once the owner of each ticket number is published the world economy will point out the winners.
Btw notice that the real ISK currency is part of the second price drawing :)
Good luck.

Yes, the idea of having the Euro exchange rates selecting the winners is mine.
Originally by: George Carlin According to our leading astronomers, next week Wednesday will occur twice. They say such a thing happens only once every 60,000 years, and, although they don't know why it occurs, they're glad they have an extra day to figure it out.

Edited by: Padra on 24/02/2006 17:16:13 Well, i'd say, the random numbers are random enough. Bud the modulo calculation isn't as "fair" as it seems. Because of 99999 modulo 300 being 99, tickets numbered from 0 to 99 have a slighter higher chance to win (about 0.3%, if my calculation is right). Dividing by 100000 and multipliing by 300, then rounding it down would even the chances. But it's a good idea to make the drawing of the ticket number a public process. And knowing a little bit of math, i'm not taking a ticket. Strange thing is the 3,5 billion prices in the title, but agorn will only gain 3 billion. So i suppose the title is a bit exaggerated.
Good luck to all
Padra
