Great job CCP and a little side note to those who may consider whinging/moaning etc...
Before posting derogatory remarks as soon as the server gets a bit busy, considering the following things:
1. EVE is a mega-complex clustered environment where load balancing the 5000+ system universe across 70 blade servers is required.
2. Load balancing typically requires a bedding in period, where hot spots are detected and ironed out (e.g. more processing put to busy systems and less to quieter ones).
3. This is a business for CCP, so it is in their interests to sort problems out. They will work hard to resolve any issues discovered, usually in the face of aggressive customer response and behaviour.
4. CCP must have committed hundreds of thousands of pounds to upgrading the environment. They will not simply ignore any issues that arise in the new setup.
Thought it worth getting this in before we see the usual tirade of rediculous posts which usually results in:
Whinger1 - "I hate CCP" Whinger2 - "CCP hate us" Whinger3 - "I'm gonna quit if this isn't fixed by xx:xx" Sarcastic1 - "Can I have your stuff"...

Very well done CCP. Servers are noticeably faster than they were, of course I'm sure there will be bumps in the road ahead, it simply cannot go this smoothly, can it??
The big test will be on Sunday though at peak times, fingers crossed everything goes well. But as I said congrats on a good upgrade ccp!

I logged on this morning for a bit, and noticed my frame rate had jumped up considerably.
Running, as normal, in a window at 1200 x 1600 I was averaging 70fps. I'm sure it used to be more like 40.
Would this be a result of the server upgrade? I thought FPS was all down to my hardware? Anyway it all seems very nice.

Edited by: DogTyred on 22/02/2006 17:04:04 I've often slated ccp for their poor change management in the past, but gotta say this one has gone well, it's early days yet but i'm seeing a descent performance increase. Still think the forums should be on a completely seperate site/location but you cant have everything i guess or we'd have nowt to moan about. Good work CCP, have a coffee and then get back to work on them bugs

There was a lot of behind the scenes worry, an electrical accident (one of the electricians installing the PSUs got zapped by a faulty unit, but no major injury) and a delay in getting the web services resolved, so it wasn't too smooth, but we are happy so far.
A huge load of thanks go to Froggi, Major Gormur, Valar and the rest of the server team. They were the ones that put in most of the hard work and deserve the majority of the praise. We wouldn't be where we are at without them.

((OOC :-))
Just wanna say thanks! Much smooth new hardware, and smooth transition thru 2 evenings of zero sec empire warfare.
By the way: anyone got hold of the Dev Message from the last night, when Test Server was opened... and then suddenly crashed... it was something like "Something bad happened, which is nice!"
Hilarious... what was the correct wording?

Anyone who got to try this new stuff out on the stress test will be infinitely patient with you guys. I mean the reward will astound those unlucky enough not to have taken part in that two day menage of virtually lagless pvp love.

Im sure that zap is why it all went so smooth! You should hire him and let him get zapped at every downtime just to be sure!
edit: If he doesnt want to, i can come and get zapped! Im sure ill bring luck to the serves too

Someone (Moominer, 2 different people) mentioned to me yestoday about a downfall of new hardware for smaller alliances etc.
Quiet afew alliances rely on lag to save their space, now that lag wont be such a large issue, im curious as to how 0.0 developes, RA vs V and co for instance, take any large encounter where a camp exsist (with drones out as couldnt sit 200km from a gate and not need drones out!) and a large fleet jumps in to counter it.
0.0 is certainly going to be intresting :)
