:: This post was supposed to have been posted yesterday but I didn't make the final draft before the forums was going offline :: :: And to the mods Yes I do think this forum suites this post since (without trying to brag) EVE-Files is one of the largest community sites around - but if you disagree then do you job, thank you ::
Today it has gone one year since the launch of EVE-Files, and I have all of you to thank for its success - Thank you for chosing EVE-Files!
And of course for such special occasions I am forced to publish information on how much pain you actually cause me
The real statistics geeks can get the full PDF report here.
For all you others crunch these numbers:
Average visitors for the full year 21,598 per day - Of course the start draws down the results hehe. The average visitor count for the last three months is 50,000+ per day.
At the time of the report there have been a total of 7,732,406 visitors on EVE-Files (quite good imo) and over 36 million hits.
The majority of people came from the EVE-Online forum (4,6M users) while the FIX site presented over 50,000 users, with ASCN right after with 49,000.
So what about files? Yeah there is a top downloaded file as well, and I am very much ashamed of saying which it is... It's a MP3 song. Which slipped through the authorization system and beinga available for way too long.
Anyway the most downloaded EVE file is evepvp.pdf, Attrezzo's Guide EVE PVP - Congrats! While the runner up was one of my files so lets skip that one and give runner up to titan.avi provided by the team behind the SSWQ ticker.
On to the bandwidth. Yeah I can say it uses a massive amount of bandwidth, and the increase from the start is simply mindpulling. The bandwidth usage has increased by 1200% from March 2005 to January 2006. If it keeps up like this I have to upgrade the connection in 6 months
Mar 495,375,266 KB Apr 1,413,039,383 KB May 1,397,262,653 KB Jun 1,902,604,176 KB Jul 1,644,187,897 KB Aug 2,939,151,771 KB Sep 4,254,603,099 KB Oct 4,683,972,039 KB Nov 4,404,448,247 KB Dec 5,685,220,659 KB Jan 6,615,820,519 KB Feb 4,983,621,840 KB
Total 40,419,307,543 KB
And it is a pretty intensive increase of access during DT (which isn't unexpected).
Well basicly that is the quick stats but feel free to take a look at the PDF if you want to dig deeper.
--- So what about the future? Well I will certainly do my best to keep everything going like you want it, and I have now realized that I need to upgrade the hardware even more as I am having big problems keeping up with all requests during this DT. The network connection is ok but it is the harddrives that are having trouble keeping up and serving everyone with the speed they should get. So I will be looking into getting additional drives to ease the pain on the current. I have measured a peak of 182 request/sec when you all where going at the most.
Serving 182 people per second with files was a bit too much for the harddrives to perform. So additional hardware is needed and is next in line after the server upgrade of the current TS server (hardware should be ordered next week most likely).
Finally I would like to thank all of you for using EVE-Files and I hope to be able to bring you an even better service during 2006 than I did 2005.
And also a huge thank you to everyone involved in administering the site, approving content and general help (and welcome to the new admins) - I could not and will not be able to do this without you! Thank you!
And lastly any veldspar donations are most welcome
Best regards, Chribba

It has been a year? WTF... Where was I? WTF was I doing? Hmmm..... Anyway, EVE files is an awesome resourse. It must cost allot of RL ISK for you to run that thing, if you have an address where I can send you a donation to help, however meagre my contribution might be, let me know, I would be happy to.

Thank you for all kind comments.
And as Jinx Barker said, yeah one year already - amazingly and fast, feels like I started this just some months ago. Time passes quickly but not as fast as the server keeps pushing out media

Well I offered everything, I live in a pod, I eat veldspar and I take a dump in a nearby can.
Nah it's not like that luckily, but yes it do cost me money but it's worth all them $K's in bandwidth and hardware since EVE so totally rocks (and I have some sponsoring on the bandwidth).

That'd be a hell alot of beer... doubt I could fit all that in my place - the place is already half full with vanilla coke hehe

I rather not look at them drives coz all they do is whine about how much they have to work while I just chill and get all the good comments :P But as said in the first post the bottleneck during the DT was the harddrives not being able to serve all request fast enough so I will add a few brothers and sisters shortly to improve their speed.
