On to your question: T2 Salvagers will always have a better chance at salvaging. Salvage drones have, I believe, a 3% base chance to salvage, with a 13% chance at Salvage Drone Operation V
Basically, salvagers are more efficient (per tick), but you can tell your drones to salvage everything around you while you tractor stuff in pretty easily. |

The only thing max level salvage drones can't salvage given a bit of time is high end sleeper wrecks.
Everything else is within their reach. |

The salvage quality does not differ. The only thing that changes is how long it takes to get the salvage out of the wreck. When it comes to which option will get the goods faster, the answer is "it depends." Salvager II on a Noctis will salvage faster than five drones on one wreck. Five drones on five wrecks will salvage those five wrecks faster than one Salvager II.

They both have the same chance to get the same thing. The questions should be be which will give it to me faster.

There's also the difference between standard wrecks (T1 ships and your average rat) and difficult wrecks (T2, overseer and commander rats and sleepers). For standard wrecks, a full set of drones pulls ahead in combined access probability compared to a single salvager unless you fit ~30% worth of salvage tackle (I.e. 3+ù T1 or 2+ùT2), but for difficult wrecks, the Salvager II pulls way ahead by default GÇö hell, some of those wrecks are outright impossible for the drones to handle.
GǪbut the Salvager II can receive all kinds of nifty bonuses, such as the aforementioned salvage tackle rigs that make it equal in terms of the final probability, or the Noctis cycle bonus that increases the probability per time spent.

Not sure when, and too lazy to look it up.
The short version: Deploy drones with no targets locked and Right-Click -> Salvage. The drones will now be in auto-salvage "mode" and start salvaging the wrecks in order of distance from your ship.
