I'm trying to do exploration in a new way: Refit for the site I find using the Mobile Depot. But when I got home I looked in my cargo...no depot. I had apparently left it at some random location in some random system.
Is there any way to get back to it, or is it gone forever? Other than scanning out every system I went through and visiting each and every depot to see if its mine (not worth my time).
I knew there was a reason that I bought 10 of those things.... http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

While I do think that you are 100% correct in your assessment of your situation with regards to your possibly lost unit I have to question the last part of your statement.
If searching for your lost module wasn't worth your time, then why was posting the above at the forums judged worth it?.

If you can't remember where you've been or where you left it, then yeah its gone. But if you have even a blurry idea of where you left it, you can return and scan it down. Why can't I delete this signature? |

In case one of us had seen it on our travels and had left it into the nearest lost and found. It was worth a shot I suppose. but sadly the OP will just have to come to terms with the loss of his depot. Never easy I know, but these things happen. Maybe it went to space heaven with all those abandoned drones. Its in a better place now. Finally at peace. |

Because this takes far less time. I went through like 20 systems. Scanning each out for depots then checking each out to see if its mine would take hours. And if there is a game mechanic to return to its location, then that knowledge will save me the time of scanning each and every time I forget to scoop one. And as its in the forums, it will help others who do the same thing.
Like I said, I got 9 more so its a small loss. Also, it was empty. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

So... Why care? Inquiring minds want to know. For example, there is a game mechanic for finding a lost POS. Huh? How could you lose a POS? Say a corp member anchors a POS. A few weeks later that same member quits eve. Other corp members say "Where was that POS? we should go get it". But no one else ever went to it and have no idea where it is. How do you find it? Simple: Go to another corp POS, hit "manage" and look at the list of POSes. It will give the system. Then you can warp to each moon and find it.
Is there some in-game mechanic to find where I left a depot? http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

That is OK. Wait until you launch a Customs Gantry and forget to bookmark it and then try to come back with the 32 units of stuff to make it a customs office. I know I left it around this planet somewhere..... |

Given thats NOT how you find a corp POS, I dont expect you'll ever find your stuff High Priestess of The Temple of the Holy Amarr Suicide Cult of Haimeh "You are, quite literally, the best person ever." --áDomanique Altares,-áRifterlings "Send Ramona your ISK, and biomass." --áJarod Garamonde,-áSardaukar Merc Guild |

Asset API. // Proud owner of "Where's My Cow?" Will that work for Depots as well? Should it? I'm thinking maybe we need a new feature: In space assets that have been "launched for self" show in your Assets list, in game. Listed by system and nearest Celestial. Ill think about it then post in F&I. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Well at least someone suggested a bookmark. That IS the game mechanic. We don't need extra game mechanics to fix our dumb mistakes. However, the time may come when you do need to probe something down. I suggest you practice. Head to Jita and grab a freighter, orca, battleship, battlecruiser, cruiser, frigate, shuttle, and depot. Start with the beginning of the list, and abandon one of each randomly in Jita. Then probe them down in that order. If you can't fly one of them, I can find someone to help you once you've purchased all the items. Retired. |

Making a full API for yourself, and checking it via an API program might be your best bet. It tends to list your assets in space, and you might be able to find it's location that way. Though, mobile depots are new, so who knows if they'd show up at all.
