Thanks for taking the time to write about this! We are looking into the matter but haven't been able to replicate the issue so far. We would appreciate if you could perhaps list your complete setup (OS + RAM etc) as well as scenario - i.e. does this happen all the time or only when you reach a certain number of opponents shooting at you? |

Have similar problem. It is quite easy to reproduce. Just start a new mission, warp to deadspace, get mission music and then zoom in/zoom out. During zooming the music/sounds get crackled as if they were not able to run up with display (as if scrolling had effect on proccesing sounds). James Arget for CSM 8!-áhttp://csm.fcftw.org-á |

easy to reproduce? I tried several time this approach on my personal computer without any of these glitches. So far I haven't been able to reproduce it - even since the first time it was reported in another thread by apparently the same users. It is very common on my install.
The sounds are from the popping and crackling of the gate. They seem to stick to the ship. At first I thought you added sound to the Damage Control module when activated, but if you turn off your sound and then turn it back on (checkbox it off then on), it clears the loop.
Something is definitely broken. This is from my onboard sound as well as a plug-in x-fi usb sound device. Karash Amerius Operative, Sutoka |

Since Rubicon I have this sound problem and it is horrible.
It will often happen on a gate where there is a lot of ships say 40. My best guess so far is the new engine sounds of every in the area are trying to play all at once. I remember when you could set the number sound of channels in a DOS game, well if you set the number to high for your sound card it would make the same sound that EVE is making now.
Also the new engine sound volume levels are completely wrong.
I have Windows 7 64bit, with 5.1 Surround sound.

I am experiencing the same issue.
Here are some observations :
It tends to start when there are more than 5 or 6 NPC on grid shooting at me or my alt (minimised lInks), usually when i'm zooming the camera right out on one of them. After it starts it continues until all NPC have left the grid. It's not just a sound distortion for me, soon as the sound goes wierd (and it happens on both clients after it starts on either) my whole game slows and seems to be having trouble keeping up.
Reducing both clients to minimum graphics dod not help the problem, or the slowing effect it has.
This is since rubicon, i was able to run both clients fine before. BUDDY TRIALS - 21days + ISK bonus + Starting Assistance : https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=77facad8-d941-45ad-95bc-c1ec90919b6b&action=buddy Feel free to contact me with questions :) |

Just to reiterate what others have said, to reproduce this I think the best thing would be to run some sort of site with a large amount of players and NPC's on grid - an incursion would probably work well. Zooming out generally fixes the problem for me, but when zoomed in to a medium/close level it gets quite bad. |

Edit: I took a video of this happening to me a few hours ago and it really clearly shows the popping and crackling - perhaps it might make it easier for the dev's to understand what we're on about. If anyone from CCP wants the video send me a message or something and let me know how I can link it to you.
awesome thinking +1 on like it will defently help the devs maybe just post it on youtube and add the link to ur post so we all can see |

It seems to start when more then 3 npcs start shooting you with something other than missiles - and it won't go away until there is only one left. It popping also happens to the music, even when zoomed out - my first guess would be the combat log interfering with the audio.

Hmm.. I had a similar experience as follows:
I was attacking a customs office yesterday with about 10 of my corp mates on grid shooting at it. No NPCs on grid unless our drones fall in that category, in which case there were an estimated 15 to 20 drones on grid.
Sound was working with no issues on main client until I started up a second client for an alt to provide more dps. On that alt's client the sound seemed fine until I arrived on grid with the main fleet at which point there was crackling and popping as described so I muted sound on that second client.
My main client sound was unaffected and remained unmuted.
I also switched between muting my main and unmuting my alt to see if it was my end. My main remained unaffected and only my second client was affected.
Thought little of it until I found this thread and while I am reporting it, I have not been able to replicate it yet.

Bruxus (or anyone with a video of a similar experience): I would appreciate if you could go here: http://community.eveonline.com/support/submit-bug-report
and make a bug report with the video attached. The video can not be larger than 15mb. If larger you could always post it on Youtube and include the link in the report. We can then attempt to copy your behaviour and hopefuly find a solution.
Sorry for your troubles and thank you for the effort! |

I've had this even before Rubicon. Seems to happen everytime i switch between a USB Razer Megaldon headset and my onboard Soundblaster based card.
Work around is disabling/enabling the in-game audio. |

Thanks for the response - in the video that I recorded I was indeed using TS3, and also had a headset plugged in, so it may well be related to that. I'll quickly test the same environment but without TS3 open and will see what happens. |

Last night while running 4 accounts, 2 per pc I had the sound problem on my older pc running xp as well. It happened when we were reinforcing a tower and I had to zoom out all the way on both clients to end the popping sound, it is also the pc I run teamspeak on.
In addition to the sound problem I was having very poor performance, where alt tabbing was very slow and reducing damage displays to a jerky movement that seriously hindered game play. On my newer pc running windows 7 there was no problem.
I did have full watch lists on both clients and after a while I shut them down and this did seem to improve the situation. The problem only happened when the fleet was on a hostile pos as well, travelling through gates and such was no issue. Senex Legio |

Again, thanks for your input, it really helps us a lot! It seems like this is primarily a performance issue. And as you have pointed out then more things seem to be affected than just sound. It would be great if you could look at the performance monitor while this is happening as we-¦ve been able to repro some similar things, although not particularly severe, when maxing out the cpu.
What we'll do next is run further tests and attempt to figure out exactly what we can do in order to minimize this as much as possible.
Getting your machine setup + software situation at runtime would be great:
OS: CPU: RAM: Chipset: How many clients: Teamspeak or Mumble etc.: SSD or regular HD: Any other thing you think might be relevant:

The machine info has been of great help!
We have done some things that should improve the audio performance - especially in situations where there is lots of action. This should be reflected in the patch that will go out next Tuesday. We would appreciate if you could tell us if there are any changes in this audio glitch behaviour or not after applying the patch.
Thanks! |

Keno Skir wrote:I am experiencing the same issue.
Exactly this.
I'm wondering if it is possibly an issue with Eve client being upgraded to direct X 11. Turning off all sound before battle works for now.
And everything was going so smoothly... |

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, build 7601) CPU: AMD Athlon (tm) II P340 Dual-Core Processor 2.2ghz RAM: 4096MB Chipset: Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 How many clients: 1 Teamspeak or Mumble etc.: no SSD or regular HD: HD Any other thing you think might be relevant: My computer is garbage but all drivers are up to date.
Same issue. Upon entering grid with several ships my sound begins to get poppy and cracky .. eventually bogging down my system to the point of 3-5 second lock ups.
Turning sound off relieves bog down and 'resets' the issue. Generally takes 5 seconds to start messing up again. |

The difference with before and after Rubicon has to do with performance. More sounds, more use of voices, added sound experience for turret effects - all this adds to the cpu usage. We are planning a way to allow people to choose the level of quality for audio - allowing those with slower systems to still get a good audio experience without hickups and those with fast systems to get the ultimate deal.
Now, we have experienced some improvements after the patch but it seems the changes we made didn't do the trick for everyone. We will continue to work on finding ways such that everyone can be happy. Those of you still experiencing these problems can you please try and got to Effects and disable "Turrets & Launchers" and report back if you're still having these issues. This would be greatly appreciated! |
