The hacking minigame makes me want to kill someone. It is much more boring and repetitive than simply turning on the module and playing on an alt. If it actually stops bots, then I am okay with it as a necessary evil. |

I'm pretty sure any sort of mining "minigame" would be very different from the one used for hacking and archaeology, so we can't use the existing analysis minigame to estimate how boring a mining minigame would or would not be.
Also, with the way that there are such incredibly loud protests from people who mine in large ISBotter fleets, I strongly suspect that adding more interaction to the mining process is exactly what CCP needs to do with mining, be it a minigame or whatever. A single active player should in absolutely all cases be able to produce more yield than 3-5 AFK/ISBotted alts. |

Sir, I respectfully disagree. I couldn't stand hacking before, mostly because it was actually just mining with different modules and targets. It is no more repetitive than ratting, and actually more interactive and unpredictable in a lot of cases.
Face facts, anything that doesn't directly involve competition with other players in EVE is in no way challenging and barely interactive. Five million missioning drakes can attest to that. Any activity that can be completed while AFK is an activity that shouldn't exist, with the possible exception of something like PI/production where it's balanced around such long cyces it would be stupid to require player interaction for the entire duration. |

I like mining though I am not a full time miner. I just do it when I need minerals or have to build something, but I don't like the way mining is already a semi-afk activity which lends itself to more afk activity so +1 from me for having a hacking style mini-game implemented to keep the attention on the screen in return for better yields.
Plus as per what others have said Miners have done well with buffed mining barges and extra ehp in the last few years though I would like to see the retriever/mackinaw remodelled with a new hull as it seems ancient and klunky compared to some other hulls at the moment. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

my two isks here:
1. add an active way of mining
2. keep the old method too, so people can either rush to play the minigame stuff or play semiAFK, the former method would allow to get the most of the asteroid in no time while the other would allow for AFK activities (i dont know if we can please each side of the spectrum anyways)
3. give T2 resist treatment to the Exhumers, since they are actually T2 hulls
4. give more ORE ships with other uses:
-a line of gas harvesting ships
-a line of ice harvesting ships
-keep barges and exhumers as ore extraction ships
-add a mining command ship
-add ice mining lasers for small vessels, much like the small mining lasers
-add ship hulls with bonus to small mining lasers so they arent just an step module. |

This game already has a massive surplus of minerals and ships. The only thing miners deserve is dynamic resource allocation so that moving from one constellation to another becomes mandatory and competition increases Click here for LP store weapon cost rebalancing |

I agree with the OP that mining an miners are somewhat neglected. Everybody is making fun of them wihtout realizing that they are the backbone of every production circle and almost always on the receivin end of pvp/ganking.
Mining should be a more interesting activity for those miner that like mining. All those who are not into mining should just stfu and do whatever they like.
I like the ideas about strip mining/vein mining where roids can contain all sort of ores and have to be "prospected" first to get max results. this wold be an option to reduce the attractivenes of afk mining.
But please, do not introduce another dumb clicking nuisance like hacking. It is just stupid and pointless clicky clicky without any need of thinking! NO FUN!
Really, make a game out of it, like let the nodes blink and we have to click them while they blink, anything where reaction or a least INTERACTION is needed.
Mining is not the only "boring and repetitive" Activity in EVE. FW plexing, POS shooting, asf.
Oh, and compressed ore should always be preferrable over any prodded module regarding volume/mineral content! Just redo the compression rate or change the "module recipes"...
Also, mining ships should get more defensive capability and I am not talking about a bigger tank, but about the ability to fit modules for damagedealing! Either by giving them the ability to launch more combat drones or to fit some weapons.
Although this view is not shared by many pilots in EVE, but real PVP takes place when both involved parties shoot at each other, the rest is just ganking... |
