I've been playing MMORPG's since the term "carebear" was coined in the late 90's, and I must say the way it's use is quite different now. (Anyone remember the Asheron's Call Darktide server?)
Used as an excuse or more of an insult now by the younger generation, it seems have found that way here to EVE which primarily used to be a more mature community. Now because every WoW reject came here during the free trial the term is getting out of hand.
Here are some examples of what is NOT a "carebear", but people seem to shout it whenever they see these instances.
A ship that way outclasses you and can ice you easy, you warp out, CAREBEAR!
2, 3, 4, on 1, you warp out. Carebear share!
You can all nice and drunk from a night at the club and the only thing you can do coherently is mine in high sec. OMG, you must be a carebear!
Well, you just don't want to take that chance to lose you new nice awesomely fitted ship right away. Obviously you're a carebear.
You just feel like ratting one night. Carebear square!
You're not in some ZOMG l33t d00d n00b h8erZ PvP corp. Carebear!
You don't pod. Carebear!
You pay ransome. Carebear!
You get podded. Carebear!
C'mon people! What are your favorite instances of people calling you a carebear and greatly misusing the game term of it.

lol one of my fondest memories of online gaming was while playing UO.
Just for the fun of it one day I created a character called Big Blue, wore a nice blue robe. I went to felucca, headed north just outside the guards range of Britain. There was this huge red vs blue fight going on. Reds holed up in their tower. Im running around everybody ignoring me.
Anyway I managed to get into their tower and these 4 pks started debating whether to kill me, I was frozen in place and had no weapon so I was no threat. I ended up offering to do town runs for them and they agreed. So I then had this bunch of harcore pks reciting shopping lists to me.
wish I had taken a screen shot, newbie char called Big Blue, blue robe standing chatting amongst a couple of pks lol
Eventually the blues twigged on that I was running supplies for them and then they started debating whether to kill me and if I was worth going grey for.
The blues ended up killing me, THE BLUES!
Was fun for me anyway heh

We used to call them townies before carebears back in the UO days. Ah, how nostalgec..
Anyone find it funny how Uo tried to implement the concept of virtue and it failed horribly?

Ug, my only memories of the Darktide server was trying to dodge the high level players that would camp the creation tower where new players would spawn and kill anything and anyone that walked out of them.
Disgusted... I went back to my carebear server 'Spring... something, I think.'
I soooo hate derogatory game terms spawned by gaming elitists with a passion and especially hate anyone that uses or is even insulted by terms like "noob" and "carebear." I mean, honestly, how can people get mad at such ridiculous words like that... I like to drive the point home with said people by 'insulting' myself with those terms, usually shuts them up, else they add an obligatory "well u r" to the mix.
Anyways, I love to tease my corpmates by calling them carebears.

I love people who use the term carebear. Its easy to get them to do stupid things since they themselfs are so afraid of being called carebears. And so they die. Alot. :)

Two sure sign's of a WoW player or an underaged player..... Constant re-use of the generic MMO terms like terms 'Carebear', 'Pwn', 'O Rly' and others..... and Damn I miss the first years of UO! Triple bomb macro's at the x-roads for all - Corp Por!!! To this day I still hop over and watch some of the UO McManus flash movies just for a laugh!

Ooooooh ... UO and AC1 ... I had a blast back then
It was UO that made me proud of being a carebear ... I had a GrandMaster Bowyer/Master Miner/Master Thief on the Drachenfels server, who had the nasty habit of strolling the northern woods dodging perma-reds until I found a pack of Dire Wolves ... then I came back to the reds, with the wolves in tail ... hide, and watch the reds be mauled ... those beasties had a mean punch
I'm still proud of my non-PvP style of play, it's harder to avoid a fight than to die fighting 4vs1 odds ...

I don't recall the term carebear. Like the guy above said, it used to be townies, then when they did the whole pvp/non-pvp thing it was trammie. For a while I remember "bank sitter" for people who never left the bank. I saw how the game is now, I'm sure they have something new to call people... -------
Mr. Cortes, I think you are converting wrong. 24000 kilobytes is a fairly large file size. I think you mean to say 24k. |

OMG! Beta and the first 2 years were the best! There'll never be another RPG/MMO like that one. Pretty sure I'm scarred for life on that one, I still can't get words like 'Corp Por', 'Rel Por' and 'In Vas Mani' out of my head I think it was all 'Twinks' and 'Pwnzored' back in those days.
Really sick confession.... I actually loaded up Doom II at work the other day and went through a bunch of levels

I filled all my megathron's low slots with WCS and used it to run some BPCs down to low sec. Bunch of pirates were on my case the entire journey. One of them called me a carebear.
Ridiculous.

The carebear fun:
I was checking the "most wanted" - list the other day and there was a guy with quite some bounty on his head and the status:
"Wanted for crimes against carebearity."
If I'll ever get into a fight with him I'm sure to thank him via local or so for the good laugh. :)

I'm not really sure your 'carebear' title is all it seems rick, I mean, I've seen it used by Pkers before in other MMORPG's.
Anyway in my opinion a 'carebear' is different to everyone, as stated before by different people it can be from mining in high sec space, to using stabs. As for me, well I say bugger it.

Honestly, my only definition of carebearism is those who want to pvp without risk. Case in point, those that sit on a 0.0 gate that leads to high sec empire, looking for easy ganks but jumping the second something that looks like it could put up a fight warps in.

Until I started playing Eve I had never even heard the term "carebear". It's not suprising though since I am a veteran player of games like Red Baron, Close Combat, IL2, WW2 online, Silent Hunter and the like that were pure combat games. . . . Regards, August Soldier of the Gooch |

go to http://video.google.com
then search for "EVE Online" (on the video section)
there will be a thing titled "Eve Online dude gets really really ****ed off on teamspeak" lol,
thats the funniest instance of the use of "carebear" that I've heard.
of course not to me, but it seemed fitting for the thread.
