I have come into belts while pirate hunting in both secure and not so secure areas and found cargo cans that fellow pirate hunters have left behind . . . opening those cans would get me in trouble . . . but for how long ? I have heard 15 minutes and I have heard 30 days ! I am just curious . . . not that I would do that or anything but some of these boys like to leave their trash laying around space and I for one wish they would clean up their mess ! ! !

Opening the cans wont get you in "trouble". Taking from them (this includes stacking) will get you flagged to the can owner (and possibly his corp) for 15 minutes.

Cruise up to the can, point your ship at a planet, steal away and warp between planets for 15min.
For a laugh go make a noob alt cruise around low sec and steal from pirates :D
For a better laugh, recycle the t2 loot and recycle the components it's made from and escrow the raw materials to the pirates with a note explaining how bad you felt from stealing their hard earned loot.

Sounds like I would be a pirate for fifteen minutes . . . Once a pirate, always a pirate . . . ? Hmmmmmmm . . . Sounds tempting . . . and all I wanted to do was pick up after the boys

When you steal from someones can do they get a popup message or anything? Or do people just show up as blinking red? In other words if you steal from someones can while they aren't nearby, they won't have any idea that you did until they run into you. Or am I wrong?

Good question . . . also . . . if one was to take from a can . . . and after the 15 minute warning came and went . . . would that event be on a "permanent record" of sorts ? . . . Thanx for all the info . . . any more info would be welcome as well

This all sounds too easy . . . snagging some loot and then hiding . . . . sounds wild . . . sounds scary . . . sounds thrilling . . .
One more question . . . what if someone takes your loot then hides in a station . . . will the clock just tick away while they are in there or does that not count as a "safe spot" ?

someone mentioned you can scoop up the unsecured cans too in an indy.
the way it was put was the owner and concord don't flag you for doing it... is this true?

This only counts for Anchorable containers that haven't been anchored....though why anyone would eject a can then not anchor it is beyond me

Nope they got no idea unless they happen to come across you in space.

Does the guilty party show up under "kill rights" in the Character Sheet ?

Edited by: Mack Deluxe on 28/02/2006 05:06:30 No you don't show up in kill rights, but you do show up on their (and their corp's) overview with in flashing red meaning they can shoot you without upsetting concord.
Other than the overview there's no other notification they receive.
If they shoot you, you can shoot back wihtout concord getting involved.
The option to shoot you lasts for 15 minutes after you stole from them.
I know the difference between right and wrong... I just don't care. |
