OK I've been asked the same questions about the fountain passport system, and I thought I'd answer the main questions here.
1. How much is a passport? A passport is 1 mil per day per person.
2. What does a passport allow me to do? Hunt and trade. If we find any non fa member mining in the region we will revoke the passport and proceed to escort the pod of the miner out of the region. Yes we will attack any non-fa that we find mining.
3. How long does a pass run for? until Midnight on the day of expiry. Depending on when you purchase your passport you may get a couple of extra hours i.e. I'm sure none of the FA would sell you a passport that runs out in 1 hour!!!
4. What asurance do you have that you will not be attacked? We run periodic patrols of all areas in fountain, and when we see people in the area that are non-FA we check that they have a passport, if not we then seek these people out. You should not worry if you have a passport. Also please if you see a patrol or a blockade at a gate stop, we will check your passports and let you pass.
5. I've heard of someone that had a passport was blown up, I don't trust you lot / I've been told tht you will take my money and then pod me on my way out in my indy. The incident was an unfortunate mistake with our procedures. The person that was killed ran thought a checkpoint without stopping, and the people on the gate gave chase, cornered and killed the person. Once the dust settled we were contacted by one of his corp mates, and I belive that the matter was sorted out to everyone's satisfaction. We do not attack anyone that has a pass, ever.
6. So what does this passport get me? You get the right to trade with the stations in the fountain region, and hunt the pirates. We try and stop loot thieves getting into the region and also we do not have any player pirates in the region. So for 1 mil a day you get a safe place to hunt NPC pirates (Sep Drug Barons and abouve as well as some gurestas) or have free trade with the stations down here.
If you want a passport please pop in the Fountain in game channel and ask for a passport, we can provide solo and corp passports.
Any futher questions place em here and I'll try and help as best as I can.

the roman empire fell b/c it went from a rebpulic to an Empire. thats just the first reason, and probally the best. after that the wars that ensued and there greed left them to there deaths. there military was made of mercenaries which also helped the fall. there economy was inflating which didn't help and all to all the people were sick, poor, tired, over worked, and the living conditions were horrible. not to mention there language which is hard as hell as i take it. but eventually the barbarians invaded and took over Rome.
^how does that relate to us?

um the age of megacorps and alliances dosent even really exist, you small corps and FLers say it to blame your troubles on something and to flame. the alliances are made of smart small corps, not huge corporations like TTI for example which whos days are numbered. so basically all the alliances are are smart small corps that got together to mine the heck outta a good location and to protect it from PKers, if you buy a passport then to us ur not a threat then your not a pker! dont get me wrong huge corporations like TTI for example are in alliances, though funny how TTI just made there alliance worse off! so dont give me this megacorp crap as all they did is play the game correctly and theres not many corps over 100 members which is probably where a megacorp begins. remember an alliance is made of mostly small corps like yourselves that are flaming this thread, don't get mad get glad!

Edited by: drunkenmaster on 04/09/2003 14:04:52 Who does the 1M a day go to? Do you have, like, a kitty or something?
And would you charge the same amount for someone in a frigate? As it would be quite hard to earn multi-millions per day in a frigate.
Also, under #2, does that include mining, or are people only allowed to trade/hunt?
Finally, how much would you charge to someone who wanted to enter your region for the sole intent of killing innocents? I'd guess at least double...
Thank you for your time.

My dear Space Invader, pirates are not tolerated inside my area of space. You will not be able to buy a passport and if found you will be escorted to your clone facilities.
We sell passports to people not their ships. I could not care less if they fly a frigatte class vessel or a titan class vessel.
It is indeed easy to hide in Fountain and avoid detection for a while, but justice will be served and invaders killed off, time is on our side.
I would also like to point you to our non galnet communications, #fountain on the stratics network. Channel moderators there will be able to sell you passports.
Why do we charge money for entry? Well its more of a Customs tax so that our costs for keeping the region more or less Safe is covered.
If you have any questions to the Alliance feel free to ask the regional Marshalls in #fountain. |

I wasn't asking for my own benefit, but merely out of curiosity. I am rather well aware of how welcome I would be in your front garden.
When me and the boys are out robbing the unwary, we generally let frigates pass for nothing.
Although I wasn't intending to come to fountain at all, I am piqued now as to just how long I could avoid detection/ejection..
Also, thank you for your polite responses. .

If the night is going *exceptionally* slowly, we'll charge them a couple of hundred K. But we would never charge someone 3-4 times the cost of their ship. They simply wouldn't pay it.
Whether the other guys have been killing frigs, I can't say (I almost guarantee molly has). But I don't subscribe to that myself, unless it a clearly suspicious character (ie. 50 man corp, one pilot in 0.0 in a tristan)
But then again, we're pirates, so even if we/I did, it wouldn't be going 'against the grain'. .

you are ofc right, not everyone in a frigate is a spy.
which is why we also sell passes to frig pilots.
someone who comes all the way up to fountain usually has a reason for doing so. usually this reason is either busines or war. if its business, 1 mil wont hurt anyone. if its war... 1 mil wont hurt either.

unlike you any "good" alliance has to keep its image/reputation... but being you meaning a pirate you have the image of a pirate and what pirates do... etc...
there is the difference...
If you want to compare it... compare it to a country who is very strict about its borders...
thatĘs how you should think about it...
Its much easier for you to keep the image of a pirate then those who ask for ISK or whatever for coming into there area, as people automatically without thinking try to relate that similar to pirateą
But those people donĘt think much at all because then every country that protects its own interest and borders is a pirate by there definitioną
That is IF a RL country could really protect there borders that well they wouldą but its much easier to do this online LOL.
EVE is much much diff still then the real worldą to compare it fartherą it would like trying to drive a tank or fighter jet into another countries territory without contacting and getting permission etcą
What will happen? You get blown UP!!
As seeing that you can switch and get any form of SHIP once you are in an area, that would be like walking or driving into a country and going buying a tank or fighter jetą
Until eve has real conquest of areaĘs and PC stations things will changeą as well as alliances will change as wellą because there will be more flexibility and more governing and controlą that would mean more passage for peaceful ppl or those who have interest in doing business.

Don't you people have anything better to do than sit here and whine about our passport system? If you think one million isk is a lot of money you don't need to be that deep in 0.0 space to begin with. You can easily make many times more within fountain than it costs you to gain entry.
If you disagree with our passport policy then don't come to Fountain, it is as simple as that. We thought we would be nice and give others a chance to enjoy good NPC hunting in relative safety instead of closing our borders off completely. If you take our gesture of goodwill as a slap in the face then I apologize and wish you happy hunting elsewhere. ------------- Shattered Star Confederation What is the SSC? Well, we say "Yeah for the FA!".
Our whole corporation went back to Fountain the other day. We left about a month or so ago and haven't been back for a while. Boy have things changed.
We tried some pirate kills, trying to find any decent pirate loot, but found nothing on a couple of trips. On our way out for our 3rd trip, we leave our base and see MANY MANY MANY MANY ships and drones flying everywhere. I turn ship around thinking I should go inside and find out further information. But NOBODY locked or fired upon us.
So I turn around again ready to go out on our NPC expedition. A player comms me, but doesn't start convo, and at the same time another player is chatting with the battle leader of our fleet. It was 'suggested' we dock and BE SAFE, we entered into a small conflict that was going down. While this COMM was going on, I had pressed AutoPilot and ended up at another jumpgate with MORE pilots. I immediately went back to base.
The Fountain Alliance (FA) were cordial and non-threatening while the story unfolded. I appreciate the concern for our safety when they had no idea who we were. They had no idea that we used to travel this area, before this new formal alliance that has arisen in the area, and that we thought we were just going to one of our bases to find pirate loot.
We paid the 'fee' for this passport. If they are willing to put up a front at the gate to keep the player killers out, then I have no problem pitching in to the war chest to insure the area is free of death by another with no provocation by ourselves.
We are businessmen, it makes economical sense. We even paid for a passport for EVERY MEMBER of our Corp!

You are no better than pirates period. Just because you choose to market yourselves differently, doesn't make you any better. you need to relax, guy. I'm just poking a bit of fun at you. Or have you banned humour along with mining? *
*see? humour, it's easy
I was merely asking questions. Unless you can quote any points where I was whining, or mouthing off, please try to keep in good spirits.
Although charging people 1 million to hunt NPC rats with *no added safety* is hardly goodwill. If that 1 million ISK bought me a farming assistant, I'd consider that goodwill. After all, the only people you're protecting them from is *your* enemies, surely?
I used to roam around Fountain before you guys set up your alliance, and it was perfectly safe back then. (although a farming assistant would have been welcome)
As for the whole frigate thing, I was merely being facetious, luckily, I got a pleasant response, and continued with light-hearted comments (and the occasional low jab). .

From the box.
"Thousands of solar systems await exploration, exploitation...."
"Form a carte of ruthless companies and control the spaceways..."
"... Gain power by any means necessary."
Seriously, what do you expect these guys to do? Police the Fountain region to keep it clear of pirates FOR FREE? There ain't no charity in Eve.
Makes me sick, really. These guys offer an organized police force, border patrols, and regular checks inside the region for hostiles, and you're not willing to hand them over a fairly measly price for this kind of guaranteed protection? Admittedly, they're not letting you mine, but you can easily recover that 1 million isk fee in under an hour of pirate hunting.
Of course, it really comes down to whether they actually KEEP their promise, and don't attack you while you have your passport.
The difference between this system and piracy is very, very simple. You have the choice to enter Fountain. If you don't want to pay the fee, go elsewhere. Pirates on the other hand come and nail you whether you like it or not. Oh, and pirates don't protect you from other pirates.
Final point is this. In EVE, your "god-given rights" are simply what you take. If they can stop you entering Fountain, then that's it. If you can get past them and mine anyway, more power to you. You're in 0.0 space, where might makes right.
Disclaimer: Speaking for myself. I have never been to Fountain, have no intentions of going, and have no ties with any FA members, nor have I ever even seen any.

But pirates do that too! If you don't want to pay the fee, go where the pirates aren't :D You are making the choice to enter low sec space

I can even fit some shield transferers and cap transferers so you can fight with no downtime.

Speaking as a member of the FA alliance, and a frequent patroller of FA space, those of you who disagree with our Passport policy are more than welcome to enjoy the unique delights of FA space. After all, we need something to do when TTI, Sin, mOo and RUS aren't paying us a visit.
In reality your protestations aren't going to change a thing. If you really want to see Fountain returned to a wild state we suggest that you assemble a large battle fleet that is willing to spend several intensive months engaging FA forces until we all decide to take our toys and go home. Whining won't get you anything other than cheese of the month club subscriptions.
For those of you who are in support of the FA passport system, thank you. It's you that we had in mind when the passport system was developed. Name another 0.0 security alliance controlled region of space where non-allied members can obtain the right to operate within the region without fear of PC pirate incursions or alliance attacks.

This is a system that is fair, enforced, and being continually upgraded. These are the rules.
Pirates don't give rules, or a price sheet, and they are (supposed to be) nomadic. They shoot first and ask questions later. They do not concern themselves with 'fair play' as the FA does. Anyone calling the FA pirates are obviously less versed in how this game actually works (or spends their time in Empire space 24/7). Aggressive gameplay and brinksmanship does not equal pirating. FA makes the rules in Fountain until someone with the coordination, determination, and military might forces a change. Whining doesnt enter into this equation.
Any questions?
kthxbye

Just the other day a brilliant man named Tank CEO said he was going to petition me for using caps. It didn't work. I've seen TTI cry, calling us griefers, because 6 of our pilots were keeping 20 of theirs locked down in a station.
What you say makes sense, but don't expect the morons in the world who will continue calling FA pirates when we aren't, to understand logic.
Here's a simple fact.
FA are not pirates.
Anyone who says the FA are pirates, are morons, and don't know what a pirate really is. |

Question - How do 6 ships keep 20 (more like 10 at any one time) ships in a station?
Answer - A. By deploying a bunch of drones for the specific purpose of lagging anyone exiting the station. B. By setting up secure canisters as "dummy targets" to bounce torpedos off of thereby circumventing the 10 sec no lock period.

Hey look, a TTI, who doesn't know anything. HAHAH GO FIGURE.
here, let me explain.
THE container(that means one container) was a small secure that was dropped by a TTI industrial that we killed. oops, did I just void your counter? SRRY
And, when TTI had its 30+ ship fleet, with drones camping stations where our afk pilots where the first couple nights of fighting, did we launch, or whine? (no.) in case you didn't know your massive fleet of newbies and the drones they launched, caused much more lag than our fleet did. oops, did I just void your counter and make you a hypocrit? SRRY.
TTI, quit sending your newbies to me. Seriously, try. |

Edited by: Lonagan Nash on 06/09/2003 01:12:57 Yes, one canister was from a TTI member. The other 2 large containers that were there, were not. Nor were they from another member of the then Venal Alliance. If I actually was one to log chat I could supply evidence in the form of a debate about where to put it. Crys of edited chat log would soon follow, so why bother?
As to being a hypocrite. I was merely bringing up a point, not avowing a belief that I did not hold. I'm sure that having the same trick used on you that was used on us was quite infuriating. Perhaps it led to your penchant for using caps?
Newb? I've been around for quite a while. What does one's length of time playing the game have to do with it anyway? Its just a cheap way of trying to assert that your point of view is the more valid one, it comes off as plain arrogance. Sorta like a TTI "employee." ;)
And if you void anything I certainly don't want to be in the room.

By noob, we do NOT mean by the length of time you've been playing, but by your skill level. And thus true, TTI as combatants are noobs.
