Sometimes indeed they lose money. But see it as a large publicity stunt to get name recognition. With doing this, and doing this for so long BIG has build quite the reputation for being an honest and trustworthy corp. Which has resulted in them often being a middle man for some large deals.
80M is a small price to pay every two weeks for maintaining such a sollid rep.

Meh, we're not *that* altruistic. It's no secret, but occasionally TS does some extra special lotteries, such as round #53, where the profit from these rounds is used to fund the differences that crop up in further rounds. Not too sure how far this stretches, though.
It's usually the birthday rounds that are unique, such as #27 and #53. Which means the third one isn't too far away...
