I have never had a better fight in my life, in EVE or any other game for that matter.
Kubinen, ~0400 EVE time, 2013.11.29
I had just been chasing a Wolf around Enderailen in my long-point Ishkur which I call the Palustris. Trying to pinpoint him on dscan was difficult - he was jumping from belt to belt, planet to planet. Never landed on grid with him once. Then, he vanished from the system. On a hunch, I warped to Kubinen gate, and jumped in.
The sun in Kubinen is within dscan range of everything in system except one planet and one station. I wasn't looking at stations though, engaging him there or on gate would mean invoking the wrath of NPC guns. It was planet or belt, those were my options. His, too.
I find him, and warp to a planet. Not there. I pick the nearby asteroid field and scan - there he is, possibly still in warp, so I'm off, but I warp to zero on the belt. He warped to fifty. I had no idea how he was fit, but I was about to find out it was with an MWD and explosive ammo that could hit me from 15 km away. My disruptor could keep him from warping, so long as he decided he wanted to keep fighting instead of just micro out of range. I kept going anyway, all I could hit him with was drones though.
Although I did tank all his damage from that range, he decided to bail at half armour. I assumed he was passive armour, fit for kiting, and let him go. I went back to Enderailen to grab my other short-point Ishkur, the Skylark. I don't have an MWD fit for it ready to go, so this is the best I had available at the time.
I jumped back into Kubinen, and warped straight to the sun. I always warp to different ranges on that sun, just in case. I can't be the only one that knows how useful it is for dscanning.
He's not there, but he's on scan. I pick a belt that he's not at, and warp to 50 this time, not zero. A friend of mine is also tracking his movements, and tells me, "stay there, do not move, he's warping in your direction now."
I'm ready. My DC is on. This ship is not fit for fighting assault frigates, it's for fighting bigger stuff - cruisers and up. But I have a few tools I can use to my advantage. A tracking disruptor, ECM drones.... no, I decide not to use them immediately. I want to win this fight because I'm the better pilot, or lose it because he is.
He lands.... 50 km away. He warped to zero on the belt. I smile at the irony, and wait. I don't move. I invite him to come to me. I have to figure out how to coax him into scram range. I have it on overload already, and I have his Wolf locked. I launch drones, activate tracking disruptor, and fly straight at him. I have to keep him close to the asteroids. It's my only chance at foiling his pure speed.
We engage again, a dance of assault frigates, my guns silent at 15km range to target, his blazing with the fury of armour-tearing Quake ammunition. I have to think. I have to relax. I have to get transversal.
That's it! I have to get transversal! I realise all of a sudden that he's not orbiting, and I have zero transversal. I immediately double click in space to fly lateral to the asteroids. He's chewing through my armour, and I need to overheat my reps for a couple of cycles to keep my armour up, but not too much. I want him to think he's winning.
I position myself so that he's between me and the asteroids, and I fly right at him. I hit approach. Not orbit, not keep at range, approach. I take every hit, and I take them hard. I'm at half armour, so I overheat my reps again, just for one cycle.
Then, it happens. He runs into an asteroid. I close to 10.8km range and hit my scram, and the fight was one. He was hitting me for much more damage at that range, but I was chewing him up incredibly fast. I realised he wasn't passive armour tanked at all, he's no-tanked.
He explodes. I choose not to even target the pod, out of respect. GFs are offered in local, and we bid farewell as I realise my hands are shaking, my breathing is coming in gasps, there is sweat on my forehead and I cannot stand without my knees feeling like they are going to buckle.
I have never had a better fight in my life. I will never forget it, and I look forward to more like it.

Battleclinic is reporting the exact same kills. In fact, zkill is missing at least three kills that I was long, one in particular, a Rupture in Enderailen. The killmail went to a friend, but it exists nowhere except BC.
You call it 'horribad', but you don't qualify what makes it 'horribad'. Thing is, I've always found it quite reliable. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Thanks. Yeah, it was a fun fight. Had another one today, my Ishkur solo vs a Jag and Corax. Landed on the Jag who was solo, but I knew he had a Corax buddy nearby. Jag and I were pretty evenly matched, but the Corax landed and put two nos's on me. Cap drain happens to be the Ishkur's greatest threat, so I switched straight away. I killed the Corax, but the damage was done. Spent about another minute fighting the Jag, struggling to balance my rep and cap, but the result was inevitable the moment the Corax hit me with his nos, and I lost that one.
Absolutely no hard feelings though. I quite liked that Jag, so I ended up fitting one for myself You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

I love small ship combat. Flying frigates in low sec really keeps you on your toes, keeps you alert. You slip up once, and it's all over. Went out in my new Jag just the other day and found a 'Cane and a Naga ratting in a belt. I landed on the 'Cane and tackled, but the Naga wasn't there, but it had to be close. It landed about 70km away and I actually panicked a bit... I was in intel going "HALP NOAW GAIS!!!"
The only response was, "Man, no one's near you. If you're going to fight solo, you're going to die solo"
I didn't, though.... I killed the cane, but before I did I realised, I wanted to kill the cane, and I wanted to kill the naga too, and I'd calmed. I was thinking... but I wasn't thinking. More like I was reacting to instinct. So I'd already decided to overload my afterburner and go after it as soon as the cane died. Unfortunately, at 70km range, the Naga was in warp as the cane was dying, before I'd even turned my Jag towards it.
I gotta remember to fraps this ****, I keep forgetting. Heat of the moment, you know. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |
