Heh. Might as well go all the way and fit Taco Bell in there. Concord billboards have been looking a bit sparse of late, and we all know by this time in the future Taco Bell is the only restaurant chain left.
What a rubbish post. If you dont like it then just quit EVE.

Could it be, CCP KNOWS they got the biggest on the block? So they brag about it a bit. So they want us to know just how much more they spent to keep us happy, than companies like SoE (ARGH) or Blizzard:P I'm just admiring the size ffs!! Of the computer!!!! --------- "English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through thier pockets for loose grammar. " |

I think you should get a grip and stop reading more into this than there is (or at least you have any evidence of). Your making out as if there is some advertising conspiracy we are all being subjected to. Are you a competitor or something of IBM and your jealeous cos I cannot see why it's getting on your nerves otherwise.
CCP are exited about the massively powerfull hardware they are getting their hands on so why shouldn't they go on about it. Should they go the other way and refuse to mention the brand of their hardware or even worse refuse to unless IBM give them money?!?
And to those IBM/Lenovo bashing folks. I run an IT Support Department and we buy IBM laptops (branded IBM but the box is branded Lenovo now) cos they are the dogs baws in reliability and durability. The laptops do cost more than others and are generally a bit slower - but that's the least of my worries. Most users want utterly reliable, tough laptops and IBM provide them. Great machines for business use in my experience.
Used to use Toshiba laptops and every single one of them had a hardware issue at some point in their lifecycle. IBM ones have not had 1 single hardware failure in the 3 years we have been using them. Not 1!!
So more free adverising for IBM it is then
IBM 4tw - heh heh

The short answer is that IBM sucks (and always has) at marketting to anything smaller than a medium-sized buisiness. An AS/400 is a relic filled with programming concepts that should have died with punchcards, but somehow it still gets used.
Their attempts to break into the home market were basically "Apple is making a whole bunch of money over here, why can't we?" So they give that Gates kid a heap of cash for his little OS (if you can even call it that). Gates makes an even bigger heap of cash, and IBM goes back to making big iron. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

Wait a minute.
Let me get this straight. CCP takes the initiative and a hit to the wallet, implements 70 IBM Blade Servers, working towards making the game much, much more enjoyable for all of its paying customers, and you're complaining because you hear about it too much?
Perhaps you'd rather CCP stick to old hardware and just purely focus on making profit. Maybe then your precious nerves would be intact?

If it makes lagg go away I would,
I will fly a Mining barge "named brought to you by IBM" while mining in they system named IBM-C ,while mining IBM ore to make IBMenium. I would then sell my IBMenium to make IBM isk to buy Tech 2 IBM ammo and put it my tech 2 IBM 425 turrets. I would then jump in my IBM 4756 formally know as a megathron and play IBM's theme music(if they have one) in the background.

Quote: In FACT, there are links for EVE on IBM's sites.
Where exactly. I clicked in the link from the EVE website to the specific Blade that is being used, and couldn't find any EVE Links.
As for complaining about the advertising? Where, its one or two blogs, and thats it. As someone else said, lots of techies play this game, so if they want to read about it let them. You can just ignore the link. Doesn't bother me.
As for IBM and PC/Laptops or Commercial, my school uses IBM ThinkPads. Currently I am on a ThinkPad R51 model, and I use it to play EVE and it works well. Sure I would love 1GB RAM and 128 MB vid card but this is a laptop *supposed* to be for school use. Every incoming class gets a "free" laptop (that is, we don't pay extra, but I guarantee tuition covers it).
And yes, Corp Ads on Billboards in game would be quite cool. However the only time I pay attention to them is when I fly right next to them on the way to a gate. I don't find them in screen or overview and click and view them. ------------- www.eve-files.com/media/corp/20thb/Abra-Banner.jpg[/img]

Edited by: MysticNZ on 28/02/2006 21:57:59 I quite like IBM servers.
It's just little things about them that I like.
For instance, I mostly sell their x series.
* If a hdd or cdrom dies in them, you can take these out and replace them without breaking the seal of the computer.
* Broken parts were sent and arrived 9am the next morning before I had even sent the old parts back.
* Mangement tools are simply great.
Just little things like this that makes me use IBM over other brands. Customer Support does wonders, and I think IBM are very good at that.
And I love their think pads. There not pretty, but damm are they strong. They last forever. -

You mean like Compaq/HP/Sun/Dell/Gateway have been doing for many many years?
I must admit, the Hot swapable memory and easy replacement of mainboard in some models of their xSeries is brilliant... But the above is nothing new.

Even ASUS have support like this, except its same day. Nothing special about the above.

Even ASUS have the above, admitedly IBM is far better than the likes of compaq in this area, but again, nothing special here.
Personally, im quite fond of HP gear. Have had nothing but good fortune from our BL20p's, though from a commercial standpoint, power consumption and heating increase with the use of blades, which resulted in the purchase and installation of an additional HVAC unit to cope.

That's a link to a reseller. IBM "pc's" are not built by IBM. This is fairly old news, but here's a link detailing the sale.
Lenovo makes IBM pcs and laptops and is licensed to be "co-branded" for the next few years.

Ok, perhaps I should have said IBM doesn't make personal computers anymore.
Take a look - theres a link for PC products on that page, but it goes to Lenovo. Lenovo, despite continued partnerships with IBM, is not IBM.
